Do Buddhists say "Buddha"?

And who do Hindu's say?

I can say from personal research and books and movies that it is not uncommon for Jews and Christians to say "God" and that it is not english specific. "Dieu" (French) and "Dios" (Spanish) and probably most frequently cried the Italian "Dio"

But why? And is this cross cultural with other religions?

Is it a primal, deep seeded, past life, regurgitated reflex?

Is it a spontaneous Glorification and injection of innocence and purification into something so seemingly self or mutually gratifying?

Is it a sub conscious reminder of why we're compelled to make love?

Why is this third entity included in such a private, intimate exchange?

And do other religions have this same vocabulary?

(The moderators have asked me to try to post this here in psychology / metaphysical thread, we're not sure where it fits. I'm genuinely curious about why this happens and we have faith that ATSers can discuss this delicately)

And while we're at it -

It makes sense that we would cry "Oh God!" or "Jesus Christ" when we're scared or shocked. If you believe, you might want the immediate buffer as a protection.

And when we hurt ourselves, we are pissed for the lack of protection... "God Dammit" and we tend to go towards words less exalted that refer to lesser pleasant bathrooming or unromantic sex - censorship of bad words prevents me from examples - but you get my point.

It seems to me that the word "God" is very present in our involuntary bodily reaction language. Even for those who are not religious. That's interesting.

So, is this expletive use simply a cultural phenomenon or do we see this in the Middle East, Asia and in non-catholic parts of Africa, and indigenous tribes through out the world?

And what do we think it means psychologically? spiritually? Historically?

Interesting point, I never thought anything of it. Why don't people yell "Love!" at the climax? Or just use the basic "natural" groans and moans?

I dont want to know... however, it would be interesting to know if Arabs say Allah actually. Ive never thought of this either. We are so programmed to only see things from our cultural perspective that things like this usually doesnt strike us I guess.

If they say ANYTHING while making love then they are talking too much.

*second line added for flavor*

"Do Arabs say "Allah" when making love?"

In english you say Oh God in Arabic it's Ya Allah.

Some people might use Allah in that context but i personally wouldn't. I think it would sound disrespectful in Arabic.

I wonder if it's done as an expletive in English or out of respect to God.

Clearly it depends so much on the moment and the individuals. But even "God, I love you, George." is an odd statement when you think about it. Unless the person is connecting George to God. But I'm sure it's much more common to hear God in lovemaking than four letter words.

Which suggests to me that it isn't swearing / accentuating, it's glorifying somehow.

There are some interesting translations that were posted here on BTS, before this thread came here to Psychology / Philosophy

Probably a much better question is to ask what morons say. Then, assuming you still have mirror in your home, you could look into it and answer your own question.

Hope this helps.

What a strange question......

I haven't personally watched an arab couple have sex, so I wouldn't know.

I'm half arab myself, and it's not something I would bring up during the act.

You probably forgot something VERY important.
"Arab" is not a religion.
So "Arabs" say the same thing anyone else might say in a moment of passion.

Another VERY important point is, it's impossible to put people in a group like this. Every person is different, so who the hell knows what people say during the act!!! I don't think I want to know! lol

What!? uhhh I don't think so.

They usually wipe with toilet paper then wash with water.

Any more questions about these arabs from another world?

I think this is a tad bit ridiculous...

It's not really anyones business who says what behind the bedroom door.
