Surprise! Mom gives birth to octuplets!

This is the 2nd set of octuplets, ever! (8 at once!) There was one other set but one did not survive.

Kate Goslin must be green with envy.

Good luck to the family, and the babies, I hope they all survive and are relatively unimpaired after such a birth!

Wow, that woman must of been HUGE!!!!!!!!

i cant really imagine eight babies all swirling around woman's stomach
and imagine the financial needs of the family now.

Virtually every pregnancy that is more than 2 babies is done by c-section--the risk of the babies dying as their cords are strangled during a vaginal delivery goes up astronomically. Ocasionally a very experienced doctor will deliver a set of triplets vaginally, or they will be born before the mom can get to the hospital, but as a rule it's c-sections for these kinds of pregnancies.

Actually from the story that i read, all the babies are pre-mature with the biggest weighing in at 3 pounds and the smallest at 1 pound.

Apparently she didn't even know she would be having so many.

She thought she was having 7. It isn't as trailer-trashy as it sounds that she didn't know she was having 8. It is hard to count in utero--it isnt unheard of for a 2nd or 3rd baby to go unnoticed even in today's age!

Even if it WAS safe to have eight babies, i don't think any woman would want to go through that pain.

I'm pretty sure she took fertility drugs or something.

If those babies came naturally, then God help the rest of us.

I believe 5 is the most that has ever been conceived naturally.

That is INSANE.


I understand twins, but wow.

I wonder if some of them were identical or anything of the sort.

My prayers go out to the parents, to increase their patience.

Sometimes my two little ones get to be enough, I couldn't image adding six more to the mix.

Identical triplets are fairly common, quads show up occasionally, and there is one documented case of identical quintuplets. Google "Dione Quintuplets."
