This is very interesting news......It makes ya wonder if Kuwait is preparing for something.....I did not know that such a pill was even available and note that the last line in this article is "We hope the new U.S. administration follows Kuwait's lead and reinstitutes the potassium iodide distribution plan to protect its citizens."

hmmmmmmm

Anyone who has half an awareness of everything going on between India/Pakistan, North Korea/South Korea, Iran/Syria/Israel, would of course think this to be a prudent move.

Prudence in the light of evidence and trends is not what I'd call overreaction.

Maybe just a reaction to the increased tensions in the area?

Jeez! I hope they don't know something we don't!

Potentially very worrying!

Good find (i think!)

Well If I was a neighbor of the Iranians who were playing around with nuclear fuel for the first time I would be worried and take precautions to.

Problem is, they've been playing around with nuclear fuel from the time the US first helped them with it in the sixties, so they hardly qualify as newcomers or beginners.

I said this on the other thread so I'll repeat it here -

EXCELLENT!! Our gov't should be taking note from these folks.

Heck, most of the time folks living near nuclear plants can't even get the pills let alone people who live in high target areas.

We order ours online.

We live near nuke plants and the idiots in charge say things like 'we don't want to give out nuke pills because people will panic. We will wait until something happens then eveyrone can come in and get pills'.

:shk:

So we got our own.

GOOD FOR KUWIAT! In that part of the world eveyrone should have them. And considering that they are an oil country - they can afford it.

Slayer, its silly and propaganda to say iran is playing with nuclear power for the first time. First off, it would not be the first time. We supported Irans nuclear program when our puppet the Shah was in power.

But most importantly, Iran is a compliant member of the IAEA and the NPT, in fact they are the ONLY compliant member of both in the world. The US does not follow the NPT, Nor has Israel ever let the IAEA in.
To point out history, in the past iran had a treaty with us that they would enrich no uranium, and in return the US would provide all the enriched uranium they need for their civilian energy program. The iranians faithfully discontinued production of EU, but the US never sent a SINGLE shipment they had promised... so after 2 years Iran started up again....but with all the safe guards, cameras, security, and alarms required and monitored by the IAEA and NPT. Its not like they can be sneaking out little bits of EU, as all of it is STRICTLY monitored EVERY MINUTE of EVERY DAY by these two organizations. Its not like the stuff is just sittin around in a warehouse with a rent a cop standing by.
Stop spreading propaganda and hateful rhetoric

Indian Point right outside of Peeksill, NY gave the Potassium Iodine pills out to all residents within a 10 mile radius after a post 9/11 report found serious security flaws at the facility.

Then they run things in NY better then they run things around here (S.E. Pennsylvania, S. New Jersey, Delaware). Here it was a big fuss and the morons actually said that they wouldn't give out the pills until something happened. (By then it would be too late). At present, some of the neighborhoods in Delaware have finally gotten them. But only recently and only after making a huge fuss for many years.

Shah, its in your history, not hidden, you can find many sources on the net if you like. We installed the Shah in iran, then supported him with weapons and with technology to pursue nuclear power.

Most likely the article is referring to Potassium Iodide. It basically floods the body and blocks radioactive substances and particles from accumulating in the glands.

It does not, I repeat, it does not make you blast proof.
Just kidding.

Basically it is only useful to those outside the blast area and the initial fallout.

Seems more or less a better safe than sorry thing.

With the bird flu countries were stocking up on vaccines as well.

The USA built a 5 megawatt research reactor [of the same design as the Israeli reactor at Dimona] in Tehran in 1967 , it based at the Tehran Nuclear Research Center and is run by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

The IAEA annually inspect the 17 years worth of spent fuel , and in that time none has ever been removed for reproccessing.

Also the `Plasma Physics Research Center of Islamic Azad University` operates a fusion reactor , again for research purposes.

what really does upset Iran is that both the USA and germany were paid in full for construction of 4 nuclear power stations of a type to be designed by each country.

and neither country have bothered to comply with that contract , so technically the USA owes iran $1.4 BILLION USD , and thats in 1977 value , also france owe iran $1 billion USD , and thats 1982 value.

www.antiwar.com...

you see iran really have many reasons to be real pissed with the USA , they don`t honor contracts ,owe billions to the country and of course the cia-back coup which removed a legal , and popular leader and replaced him with the brutal shah.

and now , the US is painting iran as the `bad guy` - well maybe the US should honour its own debts first.
