Italy to put 30,000 troops after rapes shock Rome

in.reuters.com

ROME (Reuters) - Italian leader Silvio Berlusconi said on Saturday he would increase tenfold the number of soldiers helping police patrol city streets -- taking the total to 30,000 -- in response to violent rapes.

The centre-right premier came to power last year promising to get tough on crime and has put 3,000 troops on duties like guarding embassies to free up police to pursue criminals.

But the centre-left opposition said the government's tactic had failed and shadow interior minister Marco Minniti said such a large scale mobilisation of the military was "unprecedented, very expensive and would mean a state of siege".

Police unions also questioned it, with Nicola Tanzi of the SAP union saying: "It's not enough putting soldiers on the streets to fight crime. Crime, especially organised crime, has to be fought with intelligence and investigation."

U guys! I learned look better at news (between lines) since i begun to read ATS,... so! looks like we prepare for martial law too, it seems me odd when last year soldiers where deployed for fighting criminality in our city, especialy when they are guards of embassy or sensitive locations, and (F.A non ha potere ne legislativo ne amministrativo infatti nelle operazioni per strada pur avendo la stessa arma da fuoco sono sempre accompagnati dagli agenti servono solo da supporto tattico per non essere'' da solo'' per cui il soldato di solito truppa non ha, oltre ad un addestramento specifico per questo tipo di lavoro.. nessun potere non puo sparare se non per secondo e non puo' arrestare un criminale questo spetta all'agente che egli supporta) it.answers.yahoo.com... i will translate, the soldiers don't have legislative either amministrative power on the street and they don't have power to shoot if they are not the second and they cannot arrest criminals, for this are the police agent which are supported by soldier.
For me the military on the streets have a good cover story, the people for our security are ready to accept military forces.
Cheers!!

Good catch!

First you send out your berserker storm troopers to have a little fun with the ladies, and then you use this as the very excuse to put soldiers on the streets. The preparations are under way, the end game is afoot.

Rome has always been one of the safest large cities in europe, especially for women.

The recent rapes/murders perpetrated by illegal immigrants have freaked out the populace. Apparently they don't take violent brutal attacks against defenseless women in stride like most of the rest of the world does.

Rather than martial law I'd look to look at this as a sensible response to the state of our world nowadays. Nearly all my friends have been mugged, including me... Italy is just doing what every city should, making the streets safe. The only downfall is that they only have one tool to do this with... the army... booo

people wil say that what I am going to say is racism and discrimination ect but one of the truths is that Italy is the nation from Europe where 80% or more people come in from Africa and thos asylium searchers are commiting crimes and I am asking my self was this yet again a rape crime by those people.
people from other nations may not get it but there are real dangers and incidents and crime commited by asylium searchers but we are not allowed to say it .. In the Netherlands we had also rape incident in Fryslan where there was a rape by a asylium searcher who a day after the rape vanished and was nowhere to be found.

Yes apparently the surge in violent crime is attributed to immigrants from Africa along with Gypsies from eastern European states. Many are in the country illegally and living in shanty towns.

They want you to get used to feeling oppressed.

They want you to react so they can lock you all up, take your homes and money for themselves and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

They probably organised the rapes just to justify these kind of actions.

Conan's response to the Mongol General is an abbreviation of a real quote attributed to Gengis Khan: "The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies and chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters."

Friday 23 January 2009 15:13

An illegal immigrant, who launched three separate sex attacks on women in Belfast, has been warned he could face a period of life imprisonment.

Appearing in the dock of Belfast Crown Court, Ryan Subryan, 25, admitted to seven charges arising from attacks on three women carried out in June 2007.

Subryan, who is originally from Guyana in South America and who was living at Dunmurry Lane in Belfast when arrested, targeted all three women in the early hours of the morning.

Crown prosecutor Jeffery Millar QC revealed that in the first incident, he forced a Polish woman into his car and held her against her will as she walked home from a city centre bar on June 28.

The following evening, on June 29, the second of Subryan`s victims was in the Skye nightclub with her friend when she met the accused.

Mr Millar told the court Subryan "threatened that if she didn`t have sex, he would put a gun to her head and shoot her."

Around 30 minutes later, a woman was walking home from a birthday party when a black man approached her in the Albert Bridge area and told her she was beautiful. She was subsequently knocked out on the street and when she came round, she realised she had been raped.

Subryan was linked to the rape by DNA evidence.

When the father-of-two was arrested he initially denied all the charges put to him but has since pleaded guilty to two counts of threats to kill, kidnapping, assault with intent to rape, indecent assault, rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Defence barrister Patrick Lyttle QC said his client wanted to express regret and remorse for his actions and the distress he caused the three women.

Subryan is due to be sentenced next Friday and was remanded in custody.

Easy solution - Concealed carry permits so women can defend themselves.

My wife was wary of carrying a gun until her boss was shot in the chest during a home invasion of his apartment. Guy woke up and had thugs in his appartment who shot him and ran with the loot. He was lucky to be alive as the bullet entered his chest, went into an artery and ended up in his leg.

After that my wife "demanded" that she get here CCW. The right of self-defense of one's self, loved ones, and property is a true inalienable human right. Most people who don't "get" that usually change their mind when violent crime actually affects those you care about.

Rome was a NON-VIOLENT city. I think in their case they need to reclaim their rights, and stop immigration. They don't need to change their entire way of life and start packing heat in order to accomodate the people that are moving in and destroying their way of life.

I have a CCW permit and always carry and I full support gun rights. However the issue in Rome is different. It is too late for Americans, but it is not too late for Europe if they would just WAKE UP!

I take it Italy is one of those backward countries where you are not allowed to carry a firearm for personal protection. 99 percent of dead criminals agree that an armed citizenry is the best crime prevention you could ask for.
I do not think this is a staged event or prelude to Martial Law. Hopefully the soldiers will catch the perpetrators quickly and the law will make a proper example of them to the rest of the community. No person should feel unsafe in their communities. This is the 21st century, not the 1st.

Violent attackers need stiff prison sentences once they are apprehended and found guilty. It does no one any good to keep letting them out every two years.

Apparently people are unaware that guns and knifes just get taken away from women, and then the weapon they brandished gets used on them.

Nothing makes a rape better than being shot with your own gun.

Uhhh....yeah cause women are halfwits that stand there like deer in the headlights? Just like in the movies, right?

Seriously dude, that statement is just wrong on SO many levels.

if you're going to die anyway i think perspectives will change and women would appreciate the chance they're offered even against flocks of attackers. gun or no gun, once the elephant is seen too often around town, even the most brainwashed will smell the coffee.

you know the real issue with immigration of these err, elements is that they actually have a lawless homeland on tap where AKs cost something like 20$ and good ties there. iow, a good portion of illegal immigrants are organized and armed. a bitter price to pay for the indigenous populations, considering the army will most certainly not help them. after all it was the gov'ts and assorted interests that encouraged the influx. i don't believe in coincidences, do you?

if you still don't get it, i firmly believe that long arms and the ability to handle military explosives are far more important to survival than a handgun. as for reclaiming the peace, you can do that - with enough determination and ... not by talk or 'waking up'.

It looks like much of Europe is headed for a return to the 1930's, or perhaps they will simply succumb when the immigrant constituencies become too powerful to overcome. Totalitarianism or third world chaos. That's quite a price to pay for being really, really nice to the brown people.

Italy is a homogenius society where random violent street crime, rapes and stabbings, are rare.

If you are having a family gathering and someone brings a date, an outsider who is drunk and violent and picking fights, you gonna let the stranger stay and simply hand out guns to all your family members in case the guy tries to kill someone? You gonna let him hang out and feed him and give him free booze and wait to see what he does? Or are you going to simply kick the stranger out?

Has anyone noticed that where these immigrants are moving to are having a large amount of these crimes . Every country that has let them in is having these issues.

I have been going through the reports in the news for quite a while and this seems to be getting worse!

I'll try to make a post on this when I get it pulled together. But it does seem this is getting to be a real issue.

Usually the government sends in the Carabinieri to stand around in the hopes that nobody does anything. Naples is always a hot bed because of the Camorra and down south in Sicily we always have the mafia raids. Rome isn't a surprise since Silvio did it earlier last year.
