I have said to anyone that would listen, that there is something about Obama that worries me. I cannot really put a finger on it. It's just a feeling of terrible uneasiness.
I do not claim ANY specific party ties. I vote for the person that seems to be the best choice for our nation and it's ideals. Please do not call me a sore loser. I really did not care that much for McCain, either. And I have been more than a little disappointed in former Prez Bush.
I am not a racist. I believe that persons of color, have just as much right to hold office in this country, as anyone. But I would never feel good about Obama.

Thanks for posting sizzle, im glad i could bring a topic of interest to you all. i've known about "abomination" oboma-nation play thing for a while its funny i use to say it to my friend all the time. Like other posters have said, we wont know for certain if this is the man until he establish's a peace treaty in the middle east and re-establish's animal sacrifice but the fact his step-brother is from nairobi kenya and kenyan newspapers are celebrating his victory;. Means a diabolic plot of evil is at hand in the united states and we are going to witness it unfold within the next few years or less... God Bless

English Language 101: The english language is one of the most difficult to learn, due to it's many adjectives (words that mean the same thing).
[edit on 29-1-2009 by sizzle]

Hi Professor,

Sorry to interrupt class again but here is the real definition of the word "adjective":

ad·jec·tive (jk-tv)
n. Abbr. a. or adj.
1. The part of speech that modifies a noun or other substantive by limiting, qualifying, or specifying and distinguished in English morphologically by one of several suffixes, such as -able, -ous, -er, and -est, or syntactically by position directly preceding a noun or nominal phrase.
2. Any of the words belonging to this part of speech, such as white in the phrase a white house.
adj.
1. Adjectival: an adjective clause.
2. Law Prescriptive; remedial: adjective law.
3. Not standing alone; derivative or dependent.

Just so I don't confuse you too much, here is what you call words that mean the same thing:

Synonyms are different words with identical or at least similar meanings. Words that are synonyms are said to be synonymous, and the state of being a synonym is called synonymy. An example of synonyms are the words car and automobile.

I do not know from where you got your definition but please if it is your desire to pick a fight with me because I spoke a truth, try to at least have the intellect to use something that is harder to find the truth for than a bogus definition of a word made purely to support your point of view.

Incidentally, for your edification I am a Christian, and I was/am not trying to "give discount" to what the word says.

Is it recess time yet?

SCHOOL MAKES STUDENTS PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO

FLAG WITH HUGE PROJECTED IMAGE OF

BARRACK OBAMA

Several disturbing stories have come to our attention over the past weeks and days that further highlight how sections of the American population have elevated Barack Obama to a dangerously inflated “messianic” status normally only associated with Royalty or totalitarian leaders. Perhaps the most insidious is to be found on the Tree of Liberty forum where a concerned parent from Las Vegas reveals that his 1st grader son has complained of having to pledge allegiance every day at school to a huge projected image of the new president. The post reads: My son, who is in 1st grade, came home yesterday saying that he didn’t want to go back to school anymore. So I asked him why? He said that during the Pledge of Allegiance the teacher put up a large image of Obama next to the flag. I asked him if he was sure of this and I suggested to him that maybe the teacher just put up an 8×10 photo of the president. He said, “No, it is a large picture of Obama and when we are done Ms. **** turns off the image.” I also asked if they did this for Bush last year? He again said, “No.” This was my sons first day back to school since before Christmas, he was on a 5 week track break. My wife volunteers a couple of days each week with helping out with my sons teacher doing various duties. She said that she would come in early this morning to see what was going on. She just got back and reported that this was true and then some. She said she waited out in the pod area and could see inside 3 of the 5 class rooms in this section of school. She said that when the kids stand each teacher flips on the classroom overhead and a full body image of Obama, with six U.S. flags behind him, comes up about 4 feet away from the flag that hangs on the wall. She said that the image has Obama staring straight at you with no facial expressions, just a serious look. I asked my wife if Obama had his hand over his heart? She said that she was so taken aback by this that she didn’t see it. What is worse is she said that all of the kids in each class faced Obama instead of the flag that hangs in the corner. This is happening in the Clark County School District here in Las Vegas, Henderson area. The fervor with which Obama is being received by portions of the American public is reaching a frightening level. It has come to the point where the new president is literally being hailed as the anointed savior of humanity. We have flocks of celebrities encouraging Americans to “pledge service” to Obama, a disturbing notion given the fact that Obama has promised to found a “national civilian security force” and institute forms of compulsory community service for all Americans. It is one thing for naive adults to buy into such groupthink, but to also subject young children to this, a mentality akin to the desperate prole worship of Big Brother in George Orwell’s 1984, is profoundly foreboding for any so called free society.

It would be stupid to try to calculate it from the spelling in our letters. But since 666 will refer to biblical numerology, one has to transliterate it to Hebrew letters and evaluate them! That would not be stupid ...

Hard to find "Barry Setora" confirmed in the Internet ...
BUT IF it is true ...

"Setora" can be transliterated to Hebrew letters like this (as usual leaving vowels out, except for the "o", which is written as a "w+dot"; the other vowels have no way of writing as a modified consonant)):

samech - value 60
tau - value 400
vav (with a dot, makes it "o") - value 6
resh - value 200

Adds up to 666!!!

Hi MM, there is reference to your question on www.snopes.com...

Seems that Obama was adopted in Indonesia by a man named Soetoro.
Hope this helps.

Well, Soetoro could well be Indonesian. "Oe" is then pronounced like "oo" in "too". It may be short, and if the second "o" is long and the last again short, the number evaluation is still valid, since vowels are not counted unless they are to be marked as long.

Well, I am not convinced of a relation between Obama and Maitreya, but who knows?

and

But as concerns Maitreya I have found something worth noting.

1. Maitreya is a Sanskrit word meaning “benevolent”. The proper nominative form in Sanskrit is Maitreyah(a) with a very short a-sound at the end. The “e” is long (Sanskrit knows no short “e”).

2. To transliterate Maitreyah(a) into Hebrew letters, the length of the “e” ought to be marked by the letter aleph. Except for that, vowels are not written, but only consonants. We should also transliterate the “y” sound in the diphthong “ai” with “y”, in Hebrew writing “yod”.

What we get is: MYTR[aleph]YH. Evaluating this according to the numbers associated with Hebrew letters we get … 666!

I tried to evaluate Barack Hussein Obama in a similar way but could get nowhere close to 666 ...

In 1 John in the Bible it says there are many anti-christs in the world, that's how we know it's the last time.

As far as Obama goes, Last Trumpet Ministries website has their February newsletter up now and here's what he has to say about Obama:

Is Barack Hussein Obama an antichrist? We know that the Antichrist as a governing beast is spoken of in Revelation, chapter 13. As we study that chapter, we find that even though the Antichrist is a beast, he has the number of a man, and his number is 666. Thus, numbers are important indicators of the Antichrist and of antichrist activity. Here let it be noted that Obama claims Hawaii as his birthplace, although he has never proved that. Using his claim, however, we find some very interesting numbers. We know that Satan told Almighty God in Job 1:7 that he had come from walking to and fro in the earth, and walking up and down in it. To and fro would indicate latitude, and up and down would indicate longitude. The latitude of the claimed birthplace of Obama in Hawaii is 21.6. Those three digits that make up 21.6 are significant because the number 216 is the number 6 cubed, or 6x6x6=216. Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, which is the 216th day of the year, another 666. We also know that Obama’s office in Chicago, Illinois, had an interesting zip code: 60606. In the ancient Babylonian numbering system of letters having numerical equivalents increasing by six for each letter, we find that the words “A messiah Barack” equal 666. We also know from Revelation, chapters 7 and 14, that the number 144,000 represents the people of Almighty God. It is the Antichrist that tries to divide them. If we divide the number 144,000 by 666, we find an amazing quotient of 216.216216. If we divide 144,000 by 216 we get the number 666.666666. We must also remember that Obama’s claim of birth in Hawaii is further revealing, because Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean. The word Pacific means “peace”, and the Scripture says that the antichrist will come as a man of peace. We also know that the metaphoric meaning of the word Hawaii comes from “Ha” (breath of life), and “Wai” (fresh water). Thus, in metaphor it means “the water of life.” The extra letter “I” would then indicate, “I am the water of life.” This is a title that belongs only to the Lord Jesus and not to Barack Obama. Obama is also connected with Kenya, which is no doubt his real place of birth. The word Kenya is actually a feminine word pronounced “Keen-ya,” and it refers in feminine usage to the “cradle of mankind” in the native Kikuyu language. The literal meaning of the word Kenya is “the abode of the gods.” Even Obama’s political roots in Illinois are significant because the word Illinois is an Algonquin word which means, “Tribe of superior men,” or In other words, the master race. There is much more that could be said!

Not saying he's "the" anti-christ, maybe just one of many!

In Revelation it says at the before Jesus returns, there will be 10 super nations, whose leaders will give their power to the Beast.....

Prince Charles as Antichrist? Must be an elaborate joke! What importance does he have in world politics? It seems that he is mostly mentioned in scandalous newspaper reports … Is this an attempt to deviate attention from Maitreya being 666 (or one of them who are)?

He does have a lot of importance in world politics, he has a socialist agenda, he is very active in associating with Muslims and Islam, and he comes from a family with a bloodline that can be traced back many generations, because he is a Royal, maybe even back to the time of Christ. Any "Messiah" to the Jews will have to be able to prove he is from the line of David. Also, I could be wrong, but I believe the royal family is considered to be the head of the Anglican Church (Christian) in England, (kinda like the Pope) So that would take care of the three biggest religions.......

This from an article I found on the web:

Ramifications in His Name CHARLES m English, French From the Germanic name Karl, which was derived from a Germanic word which meant "man". (source: behindthename.com) "...for it is the number of a man..." (Rev. 13:18) Prince Charles of Wales = 666 - transmuting Hebrew/Greek numbering onto the English alphabet. "...and his number is Six hundred threescore [60] and six." (Rev. 13:18.) "charles" spelled in Greek, comes on page 667 of Thayer's New Testament Lexicon, just one page after 666. The word just before it is: 5487 charitoo - 1. to make graceful i.e. charming, lovely, agreeable. 2. to pursue with grace, compass with favor; to honor with blessings. The (only) word on page 666 of Thayer's is 5485 charis - grace This is the cardinal word for the core concept of Christianity: grace. Clearly an opposite meaning from that of the beast. The first definition on page 665, the page immediately before 666, is: 5480 charagma - a. a stamp, an imprinted mark: of the mark stamped on the forehead or the right hand as the badge of the followers of Antichrist. The word just after that (quoting from Zodhiates) is: 5481 charakter - (characteros, masc. noun from charasso (n.g., see charagma [5480]), to carve. The -ter suffix signifies agency, hence the word originally denoted an engraver or engraving tool. Agency is the prime principle of freedom, which it the antithesis of the mark of the beast, which is centered in coercion. For what it's worth, on the day (March 19, 2002) I linked to this study on Charles from the 666 index at Greater Things, at around 11:30 am, the FastCounter page visitor counter read: 66669.

Also in the original post I referenced the article "Antichrist and a Cup of Tea" by Tim Cohen where he goes into great detail as to how he came to his conclusions about "Prince" Charles.

Not saying he will be "The" anti-christ (Beast), but someone to watch as a possible anti-christ.

My reasoning is flawed? Tsk.

Daer, who says that Maitreya is the "embodiment of all religions"? It sure isn't the Buddhists. Please make certain you get your information from the source and not a Christian interpretation. Find out what the real story is first. That is not the myth or legend, (take your pick), or how the prophecy is written.

Maitreya is supposed to attain enlightment and teach others how to also. And even saving some of them! Some may see him as a Saviour of the world, but so what?

Does christianity seriously only have room for one enlightened teacher on this Earth? The Christian saviour, Jesus Christ, can be the only one? Don't you see the fundamental problems and hypocrisy of this kind of thinking? That is such a small-minded and prejudical interpretation of Christian doctrine if I have ever heard one. I think Jesus Christ would be embarrassed.

Christians have nothing to worry about. There will be plenty of people to save for your Messiah, too. Obviously, Buddhism is not for everyone...but then again, neither is Christianity. Everyone has their own path, and not a single one above all the rest, is the perfect path for all.

You may feel justified calling another religion's Saviour "false" or "the anit-christ" but your peculiar brand of logic just reveals you as a religious intolerent and not a pious or educated Christian.

Eventually the time will come for Maitreya to appear as the fifth universal Buddha of this world age and turn the wheel of dharma for the benefit of all. This will come about in the following manner. In the future, because of the growth of delusion, the beings living in this world will degenerate. Their lifespan will decrease and be filled with much suffering. When the human life expectancy has shortened to only ten years, Maitreya will mnanifest in the form of a great spiritual leader and demonstrate the path of virtue. He will particularly spread the teachings on loving kindness and, as a result, the fortune of the beings in this world will begin to change. As they gradually give up their deluded attitudes and harmful behaviour, their lifespan will increase. After a great many ages the life expectancy of humans will grow enormously and then slowly decrease again until the human lifespan is about a hundred years. According to the prophesies of all the Buddhas and his own promise, this will be the time when Maitreya Buddha will appear in this world as a universal teacher.

His father will be called The Great Compassion Brahmin (Tramze Tsang rab) and his mother The Youthful-lookinig One (Tsang Denma). Maitreya will be born from her side as she stands in a forest garden, and the great celestial kin INdra will receive the new born buddha with great deviotion. Immediately the baby Maitreya will take seven steps in each of the four directions, and on each spot that he places his feet, a treasure of lotuses wil bloom. Then he will declare, "I am the unsurpassed saviour of the world and have come to liberate all beings from their suffering. This will be my last rebirth; there will be no further reincarnations for me." Upon hearing this, all the exalted beings and spirits of the world will rejoice, performing many acts of purification and presenting magnificent offerings to him. His proud father will then take him around the city so that the citizens can also rejoice at their new treasure. Beautiful goddesses will offer him flowers and the great sages will predict that in that very life he will become a fully enlightened Buddha.

Thereafter he will follow the life of a royal prince. When the time comes for him to be educated, Maitreya will be the foremost of four thousand and eighty students and when it is time to marry, Maitreya will have many wives with whom he will live for many years. Then a great religious festival of Brahmins will take place in his kingdom. During this festival, Maitreya will demonstrate that he has come to realise the impermanent nature of phenomena and, seeing the examples of ascetic monks, will declare his renunciation of cyclic existence and his intention to leave his royal surroundings and follow the religious way of life. This decision will so greatly shock those around him that the whole palace and all his wives will fly up into space.

From a teaching given by Lama Thubten Yeshe.

Note: It says a universal teacher not the universal teacher.

You may also want to note the lack of similiarity regarding Obama and the life of Maitreya.

It sounds like you are a follower of Buddah, if so, by the Buddah's own words, he doesn't say look for the Buddah-Maitreya, he says look for a holy one, he describes Jesus.....Buddah was born about 563 BC (Before Christ)

See what he says:

Buddha Prophesized about Jesus (Yeshua) Buddha's Date of Birth: approx. 563 Before Christ (BC) Text

What's your point? Are you claiming that the prophecy of Maitreya doesn't exist? Let me get this straight - you are saying that Buddha only ever spoke of one other future teacher and that future teacher, or holy person, was never Maitreya, it was Jesus? Did I get that right? *sigh*

...he says look for a holy one, he describes Jesus.....Buddah was born about 563 BC (Before Christ)

I know Buddha was born before Christ.
Exactly why do you think that referring to "holy one" could only mean Jesus? There have been many beings that are regarded as holy, including the Prophet Mohammed, countless saints and bodhisattvas. Why does that kind of vaguary always have to be translated as Jesus, even when it comes from a completely different tradition?

See what he says:

I suppose you are thinking that because this Christian book which is scanned in the link you gave states:
"What will the characteristics of the Holy One be like? The Holy One who will keep the world in the future will be like this: In the palm of his hands and in the flat of his feet will be the design of a disk, in his side there will be a stab wound; and his forehead will have many marks like scars..."

...it is actually refering to Jesus? As much as this sounds like Jesus, I highly doubt that it is an accurate interpretation. I think it was written with a tad bit of bias, regardless of what claims are made at the end of the scan.

This seems more like an attempt to rewrite, in Christian terms, the physical markings of a Buddha.

The 32 Major Physical Markings of a Buddha

There are also 80 minor marks, but that is enough for today.

In the link you gave it also states:
"The Buddha was correct about the uselessness of trying to earn merit."

Alarm bells go off for me about that statement. No where, ever, does the Buddha, in actual Buddhist scriptures, say that the endeavour to earn merit is useless. In fact, he states quite the opposite. So, I am very unlikely to trust a source that gets one of the fundemental principals of the Buddha's teachings incorrect in order to validate it own agenda.

What I think that this book, "Salvation: Your New Relationship With God", that you have chosen to link to actually is, is just missionary propaganda used to proselytize and convert those the church would have considered to be heathens in foreign countries who needed to be "saving".

Christianity is well-known for it's methods of conversion. One of their techniques is to integrate the indigenous beliefs with Christianity in order to convince the prospective converts that Christ is already part of their current belief system and the Holy Trinty analogous with their dieties.

Again, this book is from a Christian point of view. I think it is always best to go to the source, (or as close as you can get to it), to get a better understanding of what is actually meant in a particular school of thought. You can't take Buddhist scripture and filter it through Christian doctrine without colouring the intention and skewing the meaning. It is one thing to compare religions, quite another to re-invent for convenience or manipulation.

First and Foremost, yes Christianity has room for only 1 saviour, Jesus. if you see this as hypocritical then you miss the most beautiful love story the world has seen and i suggest you consider reading your bible again, starting in John. this isnt hypocritical there has been plenty of warning in your lifetime to do your research, there IS only ONE answer and one LOGICAL one. i have spent a lifetime doing prophetic research and my friend, it makes perfect sense and im sorry you see my religion as ignorant because i assure you, it is the opposite of such things. and to your maitreya thingy...

im sorry man but your not getting my point, maitreya TO THEM = embodiment of all religious figures. so when i refer to maitreya im referring to what they believe. prophecy refers to a man who will try to emulate what jesus came here and did except he will want to do it by force through a false peace. so in christianity maitreya would either be the anti-christ or the false prophet. im not sure if i can make this any clearer.

here is where they say maitreya is the embodiment of all religions (this was what my original article explained...)

CLICK LINK BELOW
www.share-international.org...

"Who is Maitreya?

He has been expected for generations by all of the major religions. Christians know him as the Christ, and expect his imminent return. Jews await him as the Messiah; Hindus look for the coming of Krishna; Buddhists expect him as Maitreya Buddha; and Muslims anticipate the Imam Mahdi or Messiah.

MaitreyaAlthough the names are different, many believe that they all refer to the same individual: the World Teacher, whose personal name is Maitreya (pronounced my-tray-ah)."
