"IQ is not an accurate description of intelligence. Hasn't been so for like 30 years"

somone should consider starting an IQ debate thread, the whole matters been pissing me off for years.

nayway back to oil.

Surely its not simply the reserves but Iraq's positioning, isn't it one of the major pipe lines to other areas of the middle east and, more specifically, Russia?

That sort of control is worth far more than the oil itself.

John Bull - So....is Powell looking stupid now after Hans Blix finally fessed up that Iraq hasn't complied with the UN inspections??? You believe Saddam over the leadership in the US and the UK??? You've got some major problems in your head.

But look where it got us. The continuing crunch to get enough oil

Those who expected big economic benefits from the war were, of course, utterly wrong about how things would go in Iraq. But the disastrous occupation is only part of the reason oil is getting more expensive; the other, which will last even if we somehow find a way out of the quagmire, is the intensifying competition for a limited world oil supply.

(It has been interesting to watch people who lauded George Bushs leadership in the war on terror come to the belated realization that Bush has given Osama bin Laden exactly what he wanted.)

Even if things had gone well, however, Iraq couldnt have given us cheap oil for more than a couple of years at most, because the United States and other advanced countries are now competing for oil with the surging economies of Asia.

Now that weve gone to war, things are only getting worse, instead of better. Oil production has been cut drasticly sending the price soaring. Even if they get the production rate back up, they arn't going to lower the publics cost. we are paying for it now, so why not keep it that way? This whole thing outrages me! If we did go over there for oil, then why are things spiraling downward so fast?
