Yeah, I'm 15 years old, and was once pondering showing my parents how I can manipulate the smoke from incense, but I realized that ther was really no point to that, and they'd only be scared.

OBE's are sorta scary, or at least they are to me. I've had some bad experiences. Ultimatley, I think your parents want to protect you and keep you away from something that they think is B.S. or practised by a bunch of burn-out crack addicts.

It's up to you if you want to practise OBE's or not, but I think that you shouldn't tell your parents if you do. It would only worry them. However, if you don't tell them, you should be prepared to face the consequences if something happens.

If you want to learn about OBE's and can't find a book on the subject that you can get because of parental problems, why not look online or on this loverly forum?

Im 16and half, My computer is MY computer (yes im a geek) my parents never ask to go onto my computer and have no right to go into my computer. I keep it passworded and i have a key i can lockit with... Iv been in the internet freely since 12 and know about ALL dangers.

Heh that made me laugh..
as long as you are living in your parents house they have a right to know about everything you do. Whether your 15 or 45.

Because everything that goes on in that house is their responsibility. So it is their right to make sure you aren't growing pot in your closet, or looking up child porn in your spare time. And to say it isn't, is ignorant.

As to the main posters problem. Are your parents religious? If so ask for some scientific proof of God, and remind them that the Bible is not a scientific document; or that it proves anything. It is merely a collection of stories, that cannot be proven to be true.

Thanks for the all the advice and whatnot. I think I'm just going to make them think I forgot about OBE's but really am doing it in secret, I think that's the best way for me. I generally do delete the history on my computer, that isn't mine (it's my dads). I don't think my parents will ever be convinced OBE's are real. My sister was even comparing it with the Heaven's Gate incident. I was thinking to myself 'how the hell are OBE's occult activity'??? I even asked them that and they just said that they are the same weird people that end up obsessing over something and end up screwing up their life or killing themselves. I don't think they'll ever be convinced, unfortunately.

Oh yeah, I'm 16 too.

Ok, here's an update on the situation. On Friday after I came back from school, my mom decided that she should give me her opinion on metaphysics. I listened, thought that some questions could be answered, which were. She explained that back in the day when she was a college student in Cal Berkely, she was heavily involved in politics concerning in the Iranian Revolution ('79). She also explained that her political beliefs opened the door for a branch of Communism of some Eastern nation (I forgot which one). Anyways, she mentioned that the beliefs of this faction of the Communist party believed in only physical things (meaning scientificly proven to exist) and they believed that all this paranormal and metaphysical stuff is bull.

Basically to me, it seems like she was sort of 'brainwashed' I guess is the best way to put it, by this political organization. She is basing her whole belief on metaphysics, based on what these Communists told her to believe basically, and yet she keeps telling me to criticize everything about OBE's so hopefully one day I'll find that they are all fake (yeah right). But what really ticks me off, is that she says that she's really spiritual and all, when loves going to churches, (I'm not saying they're bad) and from what I see from her beliefs is that she knows nothing about spirituality. The only belief that is similar to the spiritual beliefs is that she doesn't like organized religion (yet she loves visiting churches, how hypocritical).

I'd say to your parents, "hey, it might just be a phase I'm going through, but its not certainly not hurting me in anyway, so let me run with it.

It's easy enough to do things without anybody noticing, I have for years.

Oh, and remember that you don't ever have to prove anything to anybody, and that belief is irrelevant.

When I told her what I got, my whole family starting lecturing at me saying that I shouldn't get obsessed over OBE's because they're not real and have never been scientifically proven. That was the basis for my mom's arguement, that whatever has not yet been scientifically proven, she doesn't believe in (meaning OBE's).

That's nonsense, so that means that if they lived 101 years ago, man powered flight would be impossible to them, because it hasn't been scientificially proven. The idea that two metal boxes would be able to communicate with each other over great distances (radio) would be impossible to them, because 115 years ago that was not scientifically proven. So having a mentality like that is hogwash.

Furthermore, there is more than enough evidence for paranormal activity. But for some reason they don't reach the mainstream media.
You should let your parents see this webpage, which has links to a huge amount of scientific evidence of the paranormal.

Wow, some people getting all personal here.

As for the main original topic...
She goes to churches, so she is religious, give her the one all about God; I used it on my Grandma (who doesn't believe in any occult/OBE/ I could go on) but loves her God.
My mum's a different story, she knows alot more then most on alot of spirtitual/occult subjects; and although she isn't willing to share passed experiences (I occationally get random snipits) she's happy for me to delve into the unkown (and as for OBE known). Apart from oujji boards, I always got told to stay aaaway from the oujii boards. (ut that's a whole other story).

Good luck whatever you do!

Maybe I should clarify this a little more. Whenever we go on trips, and she sees a church, she wants to go in (not always, but most of the time).

First of all learn all you can and study whatever interests you, but don't get obsessed to the point that it effects doing your regular work at home & at school.

Your parents only want the best for you, and that means at least learning enough to get a good job & have a family etc. When you live under their roof they have a certain amount of expectations that you must meet, or do battle if you don't.

My parents would freak if they knew I was hanging out here and I've been out of the house for 20 years, so get used to it.

Consider this... if your mom REALLY didn't believe in them, then why would she be so against you trying to achieve one? Logically she would not fear this because she would think it impossible thus she would assume that you would be dissappointed and drop the idea.. so why then did she make you change your book choice?

Me thinks your mom is not being straight with you.

I am a mother and you should respect your parents but as long as it is not illigal keep it secret and keep on learning one day you will be on your own but for now they own your butt so keep them happy and keep doing your thing quietly. Good luck.
