Do you wonder why or how so many Americans are still asleep? How is it that some people do not acknowledge the global economical collapse? I wanted to hear some fellow ATS member theories about why people are still asleep. What will it take to wake these people up, to shake them out of their denial sleep? Is it that so many people think Obama will actually be able to pull us out of this? Do you think he will? Tell me what you think.

I think so many are still " asleep " simply because they dont care until " it " affects them, whatever " it " may be.

More and more people are realizing whats going on though, But is it too late?

Asleep from what?

Some new world order conspiracy? You gotta be more specific.

Last I checked every news station is talking about possible economic collapse, probably most foxnews viewers have heard this and accept it as a real possibility, the great depression 2.0, very likely whether or not Obama will do his best.

I dont think people havent noticed, I just dont think they are so paranoid as many people here on ATS are.

Pure evil is right in saying that they wont take notice until it affects them, though. You never really understand until you've been throught something

For some of us this is nothing new...remember 1991, how about 1979?

History does not begin the day you where born.

People are not worried because they think the government is going to handle it all and make it go away. There are very few around anymore that remember the great depression, so this seems nearly unreal to most. My grandparents were depression people and I learned from them just how bad it was, and likely will get.

I also agree that until it affects them, they don't care.

With a new season of Survivor and American Idol, they are too busy to even pay attention. The sleep of fools is peace, waking is the nightmare.

It wouldn't have mattered who won the White House, this is already too far in motion for one person to stop it. I hope Obama can do it, but I don't hold much hope, not that he isn't going to try, but this is out of all of our control.

Yuppers, you hit that one on the head.

People, for the past god i don't even know how long, have been slowly assimiliated into this cult called Patriotism. It calls for needless consumption of crap products. Your un-dying gratitute and loyalty to your government, ( the one you know about anyway) and a life time subscription to the box that lies all day long, 24/7.

What do you expect, they're not sleeping, ohh no. They're completely happy in they're little makeshift existance. This is surivor the real game folks.

Darwin was right, survival of the fittest. The asleep ones, just won't make it. Sorry but were only as good as our weakest chain. And besides taking sheep with us would only influence somebody else to want to control them.

We'd have the same problem in fifty years than we do now if this was all settled today and everybody "woke up". It's not that people can't see, it's that they don't WANT to see, what's really going on. The world terrifies them so they find comfort in they're mundane every day existances filled with MTV and CNN.

Sorry if I was'nt specific. I am wondering why so many people are in denial of the total economical collapse? How do people not know that it is like dominos and slowly things are collapsing. However I do believe the last few dominos will fall quickly. Anyway I agree with guy that said basicly "people do not care because it hasn't effected them yet." What do you think?

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

I felt this was appropriate.

Because for some..its alot easier to be in denial than to acknowledge that their status quo life may come tumbling down.

Some cannot handle the truth, even tho they suspect that something is going to happen, or is in fact already happening to them, they will still remain in that "comfy zone"...even if it is imaginary, it still keeps the thought of everything is alright.

Like moths to a flame, or flies to a bug zapper. Everything IS alright, till that initial contact with the flame, or zapper...at which point...it doesnt matter after that. Life was good and is good..all the way up to the point of ZAP!

Cheers!!!!

Usually i would bash the whole Matrix concept for what it is, science fiction. But you made an extremely good point, these people would not know what to do with themselves without the giant world system to support themselves in.

Most people have no idea how to acquire/craft/create the most basic of necessities required to live that the just the thought of the system going down is just downright terrifying.

I'm not surprised that so many don't wanna be "unplugged". It's comfortable, it's familiar. Why change something that to you, isn't broken?

Amen to that. I do however think it may be complacency. We went through the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, The Great Depression, The Cold War, Desert Storm, Y2K, 9-11 and we continued to grow and prosper. We are now going through the Middle Eastern Conflict (Don’t you like how they refuse to call it war) and the total global economical collapse and folks think that it is like our recent history and we will continue to grow and prosper. I do not doubt that we will come out on the other side at some point but this time is different. I think people simply do not grasp what lies ahead. People are going to go hungry. People will die. There will be looting and unrest on American soil and so many want to think that things will keep going all hunky dory with rainbows and butterflies. It just absolutely amazes me how ignorant and complacent these people are.

the tv media, which is what most people watch, tells people what to think, feel, ect. have you noticed that every commerical has some type of music? its controlling called brainwashing. the gov't is not telling them to prepare for global meltdown so they are not. the tv has my mom so brainwashed that she buys food day by day, she dont own a gun, she has to watch channel 7 (wdbj7) news every time it comes on... thats why they are still asleep(the gov't is not telling them to wake up.) and come on.. how many people in this society could really deal with the truth? they flat out cant deal with it so the gov't lies to them and us!!!!

Because half the people in the US think Obama is going to wave his magic wand and everything will be better. People will be holding hands, the birds will chirp louder because of the newfound unity. Others know what a mess we're in. Some think everything will be alright and God will take care of them.

The media doesn't tell the whole truth. Just today I was watching and said that Obama said the unemployment rate won't top 10%. Come on..we're past that. Tell the freakin truth.

The domino effect is happening and from now on it will speed up. This is just the tip of it all.

The gov't doesn't want us to wake up. It's their plan.

Television that's it pure and simple. I tried to tell my mother, my father and even my sister tried to tell them, but they were mesmerized by the flashing colors on the screen. Not to mention we are black (well supposedly, I'm adopted so I have no clue what I am - I'm about the same tone as Obama) but, a black president is a big thing to them. Yet being that he is black that's enough for them to forget everything else going on about them. If I walked up to her right now and said I'm depressed and Obama's face was on the screen with some reporter saying something about him - I would instantly be ignored for him.

So for the most part it's the television and the dreamworld it has created that simply whisks those away who find reality to be unbearable, or for the most part find something interesting on the screen that may relate to something that deals with the world being saved.

I must also agree that TV (among many other things) is what is lulling us, as a society, into a nearly comatose state. We are programmed at a very young age to live as consumers of anything that can be marketed towards us. Commercialization is what runs our society. If this person has something that I want I must go get it and on and on until we become numb to reality. If, at some point, Americans (and some other countries) were suddenly thrown into a reality where we had to fend for ourselves with no help from grocery stores, malls, and the almighty dollar people would be dropping like flies. I know there are some survivalists out there, but do you believe that the average person would be able to stand on his on two feet without being told how to by TV or commercials?? We are told what to wear, how to look, how to eat, what to drive, ect, ect....

Don't get me wrong, I am not one of those people living in a bunker who pokes my head out like a groundhog every six months to see if the bombs have dropped, actually I am probably just as bad as the next guy. I, like many others, just happen to be somewhat aware of what is going on (sometimes). I believe that the problem is we are waiting for something to happen or someone to stand up and say "That's enough, we aren't cattle, we are people!" Unfortunately we are a society of consumers and as long as we live by supply and demand we will live like drones protecting the bee-hive waiting to be told what to do next.

"Get Up Stand Up, Stand Up For Your Rights" - Bob Marley, no wonder the government wanted him dead, he tried to B!tch slap us awake!

Well, yes and no. You are right that so many could not deal with reality. That is why the world is full of drugs and alchol addicts. Smoke some weed or drink some Jack and man it's all good. But me I feel safe in preperation, I feel better knowing the truth. I personaly am not scared, but I am ready. What would scare the ^&%$%# out of me would be if I wasnt aware, wasnt prepared and then SHTF. That is when I would freak the *&*&^%% out. LOL. I am afraid that is what some people will do when they wake up they are going to *&*&(&^& wig out. What bothers me is thats when we will ahve to deal with them.

Hey Vault, you are right. Most people would be helpless. Isnt that sad. I am lucky, I had one set of grandparents that never forgot the depression and they had 200 acres of farm that was self sustainable. I think all they ever bought was flour, and corn meal maybe some rice and dry pasta. Everything else came from the chickens, cows, pigs, bee hives, garden and orchard. The farm is still in our family and we are getting it ready to be self sustainable agian. It even has a well house for water. It needs a little work but we could hold up their for well for as long as needed. But so many people today do not know what an utter is much less how to get the milk out of one. LOL. Dont get me wrong either, I am a city dweller I live in my comfy house with the pool and drive my little sports car around, but I am getting ready to fly if I have to. I guess some of us are just blessed. I feel sorry for those that are clueless but I also think that some people choose to be clueless.
