Hey ATSers!

While musing thru the random usual YouTube Fodder I ran across this Video. At 40 seconds in they pan to a place they have named "Escrituras en el Tibet"

Now this is probably a random overlay or a photoshop hoax of some sort, and I doubt it is really there... but sure enough I loaded up my trusty GoogleEarth and looked for myself. It IS there, surprisingly void the 500 picture and explanation links that usually accompany such items...

Coordinates are: 32°54'36.39"N, 97° 2'46.38"E

Anyone know what these are?
What do they say?
or
If it has been debunked ?

Its on a frozen river right on the Tibet-China border, maybe some political or religious message? Looks like Tibetan writing, but with the summer coming it won't last that long.

Looks like sandskrit...do we have anyone on here who can read that?

Sorry to burst your bubble but Google earth is not live nor are the images recent. Most images are at least a year old so this thing is long gone.

Yes, but that doesn't take the mystery away.

More than anything I would like to know what it says! Although I would be put off if it turns out to be an ad for Mc Donalds or something.

You can guess and plug your guesses into this translator:

spokensanskrit.de...

I know it is bad form to bump your own thread, but since we have a better chance of getting someone who can read Sandscrit or other area languages, I am.
Anyone able to decipher?

Have you thought to solicit a University?
Email the pic to a Linguistic Department of your local State Univerisity.

Doesn't help that it's upside down in the pic and that it's half washed away but it's definitely sanscrit.

I can't translate it but I'd hazard a guess that it says something along the lines of "Free Tibet!" or maybe "Chinese go home!" ???
Maybe.. ?

Okay..... I have translated TINY bits of Tibetan Sanscrit before, I'll maybe have a go at it tomorrow (it's half past midnight here right now) ... Although, if anyone else wants to jump in and do it in the meantime, feel free

Thanks for having a look! Upside down... wouldn't have guessed that... The Political aspect makes sense though considering current tensions there. I was puzzled why they would write it so largely, but I guess passing airliners would be viewers.

Thanks for the link, I will post to them later tonight, hopefully they will answer. The last post was written over 2 months ago with no answer. Hopefully we will be luckier!

I had used that site some years ago for a similar question. There are a number of other sight that fulfill the same function.

That'd be my guess... that it's political. Can't help with the Sanskrit, though... I'm not getting anythiing on a google.

Darnit, why don't they write in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs??? THAT I could read!

Yes, but aren't those google earth pictures taken years ago? Also, the even more strange thing for me was that aircraft carrier. I didn't see any access to the sea and it looked like it was sitting in some lake. Anyone have any ideas on that?
