Ther have been protests in London today about the next generation of nuclear weapons and I was wondering what they are.

Anyone heard anything about them?

Apparently these new weapons do not leave the area they are used on a radioactive wasteland so they sound like a good idea.

So they don't leave behind deadly radioactive rays for thousands of years.

What other differences are there?

Whe I was a little kid I used to talk with my freinds about what the next nuke might be. Am I mistaken to believe that they have fusion nukes that are combusted by a typical fission reaction explosion? Is this possible? I guess it was a dream but I remember that the fallout was minimal and the explosion was HUGE. 16 times more powerful than the bomb used on Nagasaki or something. Am I dreaming?

Where's Krazy Ivan...

i think you are thinking of a hydrogen bomb.

Yes, he is talking about the hydrogen bomb, and yes, the hydrogen bomb is a fusion bomb. They are many times more powerful than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs, far more than 16x, on the order of 100~1000x as "strong". I don't believe they produce less fallout however, merely that fewer people die from radioactive exposure since all the peeps are already dead.

What is the bomb that supposibly will only burn off flesh , it won't even light a house on fire, but it kills all living things.

It's called BioChem, basically it is poisinous adhesive that attaches to living organisms, and works like yellow gas, it burns out living tissue by killing all the active cells.

It would be placed in the form of a warhead and put at the top of a rocket, and sent off from a silo to an enemy state, and kill all its inhabitants, but not the structures.

WOW, can't beat that logic!

That's a neutron bomb... the one that kills all the living things.

Enlighten me, what is a neutron, and what does it do?

And explain to me how it would be used in a bomb to kill only living things, but not change physical matter.

these next generation nukes are probly just updated. New guidance systems, new hardware, more power and efffeincy. Also keep in mind that if we don't develop nukes rogue nations will.

The bomb uses extreme amounts of radiation to kill people. There is little fire damage and almost all buildings and what not are left standing...So with some kind of extreme radiation cleanup, you'd have a conquered city with no local population to have to control.

I think this is to do with US plans to develop new nuclear bunkerbuster, nukes to counter chemcal/biological weapons, and new small low (selectable) yield bombs that have reduced maintenance requirement, lower TCO etc.

Also they are mindful that there existing stock is getting quite old (no new nuke weapons have been produced since the early ninties) and they are no sure if these old nukes will still function (so they are making noises about resuming testing)

Neutron bombs don't burn off the flesh. They send out a huge Pulse of radiation that causes cells to break down. Its like a giant version of a radiation sterilization unit. After the blast eveything is still intact but cells have broken down. This mean all the organics turn pretty much into goo. It also kills most bacteria in the area meaning that decay of the now dead organics takes a LONG time to decompose. Its messy as hell. But since the radiation is a pulse, it doesn't leave the area radioactive. Also since the blast doesn't create such a big shockwave of air, you can survive the blast by being shielded from radiation (thick metal room).

Of course after you come out of your little bunker you'll be surrounded by melted ot still melting organics, including humans.

Also you'll still have to leave the area since there would be no more food around.

Sounds to me like the US wants to have some nuclear missiles that they can actually use. By this I mean they want low yield nukes that they can use to blow up bunkers and that sort of thing but still not radiate the rest of the country.

found these two sites, didn't read all of it.. don't know if it will help or not.

The US is the main user i believe - if you want to read about them there is a thread on them. Use the search engine....

Quest, very good explination.

1 question - are you sure it doesn't leave the area radioactive? I was under the impression it did.

My uncle sean is in the airforce. From what he told me the bombs will be cave/ bunker piercing bombs. THe nuclear war heads on them will be massivly smaller but will still do the job.
