Yes a lot of things are being removed:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

A good start would be to allow open congressional hearings and permit all the high ranking military officials and government academics/scientists to give sworn testimony to the US congress....but I suspect that will never happen.

The first director of the CIA,Roscoe Hillenkoetter was calling for this back in 1960 yet it has never occurred:

"It is time for the truth to be brought out in open Congressional hearings. Behind the scenes high ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense."
Admiral Hillenkoetter-the first Director of the CIA, 1947-50.
Statement in a NICAP news release, February 27, 1960

At one time I would have taken this thread at face value, however remember mikesinghs recent thread about Donald Rumsfield at a UFO convention, more over the comments he made to a friend when asked about disclosure and the truth behind the secrecy?

Allen Hynek had told me a very interesting thing many years ago and he said he simply didn’t know what to make of this particular remark (From Donald Rumsfeld). He found it both intriguing that he could consider it a blowhard kind of remark.

Allen said that at some point when Rumsfeld was Secretary of Defense, he went to Washington, and he got an appointment with Rumsfeld. He had been for many many years a consultant for the Air Force on UFOs phenomena. He actually knew Rumsfeld. He said that they chatted about this and that in Rumsfeld’s office and then he turned to him and said, “Don, I have to ask you something. I have been in this for years looking at the UFO phenomena. I feel like at this point in my life I am in a position of ‘need to know’ what you know or what some agency might know that I don’t know. I have a ‘need to know’ I feel."

Now I would guess that Donald has few people whom he trusts and likes enough to sit down for an informal friendly visit, so when Allen did just that, what is most remarkable was Donalds reaction to his question:

He said that Rumsfeld stood up and pointed a finger at him and said, "You have no ‘need to know’ and then sat down again. That was the end of it.

In case you missed it, you can find the full thread here:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

What I am saying is that if even a friend of Donald could raise such a response from asking point blank, are we in fact being protected from the truth for the truths sake? Are we really ready for disclosure at this point? And to what degree should the exposure measure? The layers of this agenda are as thick as a Walla walla onion skin. How many layers would satisfy people? Just the fact that yes, they do exist, or the entire story from what we know including the secret meetings between us and the aliens? At what point in knowing does it change our relationship to the aliens if they are in fact a reality?

I think it is commendable to ask the incoming President for disclosure, but I do not think he has the power to grant the wish.

nice idea

but

the whole point of Unidentified Flying Objects being as such is to stop the technology falling into enemy hands

while were at it why dont we demand that Obama have a web cam with him 24/7 so that we all know exactly what is going on

perhaps not

secrecy is essential to security

I would like to see this happen as much as the next. But the scale the government has gone to keep this a looney theory is breath taking. I'm not sure the government could ever tell the truth. If we are not "alone" our government has placed so much checks and balances in keeping this a secret that it can't afford to tell the truth. Just telling the truth would cause a national security issue.
The truth would cause a panic and not to mention the oversite from senators and congressmen who knew nothing would be using this as political angles for re-election and the outing of top officials. This would cause a melt down in D.C. "which isn't a bad thing in my view".
The political flack that every sitting political official would get just isn't worth not keeping this in check as long as possible. The very system that is used to keep this sort of thing a secret could cause a possible massive dis-ruption to everyone if it were unplugged.
And also the very "faith" based society checks that keep our society from having a melt down could just crumble. I don't think most could handle it. I think every faith based religion has a "doom" type ending and my thinking is if a high percentage end our times this way, then a discovery of a higher being might just be that doom ending. Because if we are being protected from what we don't know now in a time of very open society I couldn't think of how historical recorders must have thought about these fore seen ending events.

security of who?
Why should the world put up with someone having secrets and then not telling anyone else? To have secret weapons to instill fear and paranoia in everyone else so they deveolp more 'secret' weapons.
Here's me thinking that mankind had evolved to be intelligent. When will TPTB realise that if they stopped creating weapons and holding secrets then maybe we can get on with the real task of living, instead of living in fear.
Secrets should be told upfront, If I told you I had a secret weapon , you'd rush off and develop something different, then when the secrets out your weapons more powerful than mine so I have to go make a new one even more powerful than yours.
The cycle continues until someone wants to test they're new weapon.
Even Oppenheimer said he didn't know what the end result would be when they tested the first atomic bomb, he wasn't sure if he would destroy the world with it.
Its about time the world just woke up and said " we have X , you have X , lets leave it at that and work on being friendly for a change"

I really don't think Obama could bring disclosure even if he wanted to. Those who keep the secrets have been doing so long before him and will long after him.

The temporary commander-in-chief won't have the same clearance as career secret keepers. Haven't other presidents inquired, only to be told they don't have the clearence or need to know?

Besides, imagine the ridicule he'd get from the MSM if he started talking about UFOs when the rest of the govt denies everything.

I've signed up and voted it up.

To everyone who is going to post a comment there:

Please make your posts serious and leave the kooky stuff out, this is meant to be read by people who most likely are not into UFOs or very knowledgeable about the subject.

Let's not give the pseudoskeptics and naysayers the ammo to dismiss this as the effort of "a bunch of kooks"

Whether our demands are met for disclosure or not should not prevent the overwhelming number of members here on ATS to participate.

Its too easy to say "Oh, it will never go anywhere anyway, so why bother?"

It seems to be standard protocol in our society to not get involved. Polls for elections are routinely abysmal, even for issues that would have great impact on our daily lives. What good is one lonely little voice shouting into the wind? Combine two of those lonely little voices and the shout becomes a bit louder. Take those two and add two more, then four, then eight. Eventually the cry will be too loud to ignore.

If you feel strongly enough about this topic you must take part. If we are heard we can take great pride that we had a part in the most important unveiling in the history of the human race. If not, we can try again, and again.

If this were to happen in my lifetime I would be overcome with emotion. I honestly would not harbor resentment that the facts were kept from me, only satisfied that what I have always believed is true.

I thought I would share what I posted.

This issue has gone on far too long and is one of the greatest crimes against humanity ever committed. Full disclosure would shake things up worldwide and make much of the petty issues that we deal with every day totally pointless. Would there be serious upheaval in the day to day actions of our species? Absolutely. But the time for that upheaval and awakening is just what is needed. Our world needs a serious kick in the butt to progress into a better race. Its time for the governments of this planet to admit that they have been lying to us and take responsibility for their actions. The good that will come of this will far outweigh the bad. There will be social unrest and the transition will not be an easy one, but it needs to take place now. President Obama, as the leader of the greatest nation on the planet, you must bring this issue into the light so that the rest of the world can join us in what will most certainly be the most important event that has ever taken place in the history of the human race. The people don't want to be "protected" anymore. We want, no demand, the proof. Good or bad, the time for full disclosure rests firmly on your shoulders. I have faith that you may be the one who will finally put an end to one of the greatest charades ever forced on the people of the planet Earth. We who sign this request are not demented or delusional. Many of us have spent countless hours researching this issue and the only conclusion, faced with insurmountable evidence, is that we have been lied too. Buck up, face the facts, and insist that this veil be lifted once and for all.

It's easy and quick to sign up, all they ask is your First and Last Name, Zip code, Email address and Password. Zip Codes of other countries will work as well, so anyone can sign up.

You don't have to comment to vote up the idea, but you do need to be signed up to vote it up.

It takes about half a minute to sign up, no waiting for email to activate account, nothing. You sign up, you're logged in and you vote it up. The whole process will take about 1-2 minutes of your time.
