I humbly stand corrected.

* [Israel] must see the sword as the main, if not the only, instrument with which to keep its morale high and to retain its moral tension. Toward this end it may, no — it must — invent dangers, and to do this it must adopt the method of provocation-and-revenge...
o This has been reported to be a direct quotation of Dayan in the diaries of Moshe Sharett, but is actually derived from an interpretive commentary by Livia Rokach in "Israel's Sacred Terrorism" (1980) upon statements of Dayan reported in Sharett's diaries, from accounts provided to him by Ya'acob Herzog and Gideon Raphael — in other words: a third-hand interpretation of Dayan's meaning, based on a second hand report of his arguments. Sharett's summation of Dayan's statements of 26 May 1955 read:

We do not need a security pact with the U.S.: such a pact will only constitute an obstacle for us. We face no danger at all of an Arab advantage of force for the next 8-10 years. Even if they receive massive military aid from the West, we shall maintain our military superiority thanks to our infinitely greater capacity to assimilate new armaments. The security pact will only handcuff us and deny us the freedom of action which we need in the coming years. Reprisal actions which we couldn't carry out if we were tied to a security pact are our vital lymph ... they make it possible for us to maintain a high level of tension among our population and in the army. Without these actions we would have ceased to be a combative people and without the discipline of a combative people we are lost. We have to cry out that the Negev is in danger, so that young men will go there....

Rokach's interpretive assessment of this diary entry by Sharett produces:

The conclusions from Dayan's words are clear: This State has no international obligations, no economic problems, the question of peace is nonexistent... It must calculate its steps narrow-mindedly and live on its sword. It must see the sword as the main, if not the only, instrument with which to keep its morale high and to retain its moral tension. Toward this end it may, no — it must — invent dangers, and to do this it must adopt the method of provocation-and-revenge.. . . And above all — let us hope for a new war with the Arab countries, so that we may finally get rid of our troubles and acquire our space.

Well, here ya go.

Israel announces a ceasefire on Gaza

Israel's security cabinet has voted to cease fire in the Gaza Strip, ending a three-week offensive against Hamas Islamist guerrillas. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Saturday that Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip had achieved all its objectives. He told a news conference after the security cabinet voted to cease fire that some goals had been exceeded, Hamas had been hit hard and its ability to fire rockets into Israel had been severely limited.

Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert has announced during a press conference, that Israel will "unilaterally" ceasefire in their offensive in the Gaza Strip at 2:00 a.m. local time in Gaza. Despite the ceasefire, Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel. According to Press TV, at least 8 rockets have been fired overnight, the most ever fired into Israel at nighttime.

This is just the beginning of their demise.

I have been watching different view around Gaza Live cams for hours...

Not RamaRooster - Ramattan feed / but outskirts, all around Gaza in AP, Reuters live feeds.

There is no truce, none!

Helicopters are firing, we hear heavy Machine guns, some explosions too...

Truce is none at this moment, I keep on live streams, very rare link and reporting. But now I can see two Apaches firing, 1 Tank firing LIVE.

The Sonara link mentioned on page 135 is working. I've got it up right now. It's not showing much, just a very smokey and bright morning in Gaza City. Haven't seen any air strikes, but it's pretty obscured. There doesn't seem to be any sound at the moment on this link.

BS, if there's a ceasefire, someone forgot to tell the Israeli soldiers.

The city is still under siege and has been throughout this supposive "ceasefire".

Typical Israeli negotiating... promise one thing, do the opposite.

That would be the ultimate objective of Israel's military operation- to kick the Palestinians off and out, to 'relieve' the Palestinians of land that they have lived on for thousands of years. This is not about security, it is about land and nothing else.

How convenient it is for Israel to demand that Muslims should help other Muslims

Israel simply wants to expand its Zionist empire, and the Palestinians, who are second or third class citizens, are in the way of prime holy land, which will be snapped up by wealthy Zionists who will raze Gaza and eventually the West Bank to build luxurious hotels and estates.

Palestinians are simply rats in Israel's eyes. Don't put too much stock in Israelis who say Palestinians are their friends and that they care about them- they don't!

How the hell else could they boldly kill an Gazan doctor's two daughters and rip the legs from his wife with a tank shot LIVE ON TELEVISION!
