Illinois House votes to impeach Blagojevich

www.msnbc.msn.com

Driven by anger and politics, the Illinois House has voted to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The unprecedented action sets the stage for a Senate trial on whether he should be thrown out of office for corruption and abuse of power.

House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie says Blagojevich has "forfeited his right to hold office." She noted that he hasn't given the people of Illinois an explanation for the criminal charges filed against him by federal prosecutors.

I just knew it would have been a matter of time before this would happen. It amazes me how he just kept on going without even giving a clear explanation to the people that put him into office. He also recently got revoked from Federal intelligence briefings, he knew and we all knew this was coming.

Hey our constitution works! The people complained about a corrupt politician and he is being impeached!

Now, who would the constitution would work in the Bush era?

It's painful watching these expensive and disruptive things play out, but even sleazebags are entitled to due process. It used to be common for someone like this governor and Sen. Stevens to resign and try to retain as much dignity as possible (not much), but it seems like they have decided they can do better by prolonging the process as long as they can. The country and their own parties are the big losers. I am surprised Blago is still in office, though.

Justice indeed.

Now he can write books and whore himself out as a guest speaker. I'm sure he would give one hell of a commencement address.

The idiot was out jogging while the votes were being cast. What an a**. He knew he was done. That is bizarre behavior from a bizarre dude.

114-1 was the vote...almost unanimous.

I'm surprised it wasn't unanimous.

It will be interesting to see what else comes out against him. My guess is that he may have lost a lot of money in the stock market and or some bad business deal. The news shows him jogging around the neighborhood as if in denial. I guess he isn't on suicide watch yet. Both him and Burris are acting bizarre.

Apparently he read a poem to the public after the indictment was announced.@::@

Some politicians resist leaving office because they pronounce their innocence. But in Blago's case, it seems like he has some type of superiority complex where he believes (irrationally) that this will all go away.

Either that or he has some nasty dirt on some powerful people that he can parlay into a plea bargain.

He needs to be immediately removed from office before he can do any damage. This guy has some gall, that's for sure. Caught red-handed, yet still in denial, proclaiming his innocence all of the way to the end. What a disgrace and waste of space.
There's an ILL in Illinois for a reason, which has become abundantly clear from the showcasing of our many many corrupt politicians in this state.

I'm sorry - I truly felt it a valid question for this thread - as I am sincerely wondering
how it possible that it took such a short period of time to spit this guy out -
when there has been no one willing to do this at a higher and more critical level.

But I understand why you would want me to leave.
