I have a viable idea that would be a very useful feature and should also be relatively easy to implement.
The ATS motto is "Deny Ignorance"
Unfortunately, any system with so many users will inevitably be swamped with ignorant comments. And unfortunately, to my knowledge, ATS has no simple
way of filtering out ignorance. This method is very similar to DIGG except for the additional ability to set one's own tolerance level.
I propose a rating system that will allow users to set an 'ignorance filter' to decide how much ignorance they are willing to endure.
The system is quite simple, and similar to the current "star" rating system.
Each post will start with a rating of 1.
Each user can rate the post once. Either +1, or -1
If a user thinks the post is ignorant, they vote -1
If a user thinks the post is valuable, they vote +1
Here comes the cool part.
Each user can decide what level of ignorance they wish to tolerate.
For example, I can set my ignorance tolerance to -5,
so the content of any post having a rating of -6 or less will be hidden from me. I should still be able to click the title of the post to see the full
post (using _javascript and DHTML, or AJAX)
Or I could set my ignorance tolerance to +10 so that I only see awesome posts.
