Sad to see all the complaints about ATS!

At least once or twice a week I run into these threads in the General Conspiricey section either bashing ATS staff, moderators or the whole site itself!! what gives here people? is ATS really that bad I mean when you get your monthly ATS bill.. ( oh, wait I forgot you don't have to pay to use ATS!!) Seriously why all the malcontent? Maybe i'm fortunate I've never recieved a negitive staff action or warning to my knowledge, because i make it a point to follow the tearms and conditions www.abovetopsecret.com...

These are really not that difficult to follow people and with a little paitience, you can learn to acecpt the gift that is ATS without crying censorship when an off topic gets deleted or a curse word gets deleted and other posters join the bandwagon because they wanted so badly to see that peticular word...gheeese I just wonder what some members are thinking when they decide to post ludicriss or offensive material and then bite the "hand that feeds" persay when this material gets removed and then they start a thread in the wrong section ( mostly on porpuss) I believe to draw as much negitive attention to as possible, Any takers on this What is the reason for not just following the rules here and letting the administrator's be just that administrator's? sorry if I seem sullen, I just don't want to see ATS "go to the bird's" because of some negitive member's disfunction. It can get old but it's one of those things that needs to be taken on a case by case basis. It's also all in the approach and the nature of the complaint. Sometimes it's as you say: Someone simply being a malcontent. They're very easy to spot and generally don't merit more than an eye roll. Then there are those who truly love and care about ATS and feel the need to voice a concern. When you love something, you want to 'make it work' and sometimes it is necessary to voice grievances in order to resolve an issue that is upsetting you.

Again, it's all in the approach. Not to mention choosing your battles and, ideally, handling things privately instead of making a public fuss.

I've thought about this before and came to one possible conclusion: It's the nature of the beast when it comes to ATS' theme and content. You're mostly going to have a member base that is wary of authority, looks for a conspiracy in many things (even when none exists), and those whose personalities generally fight against the establishment and order of things.

Basically, due to the conspiratorial nature and the general 'stick it to the man' mentality of the majority of members here, you'll have your group of rebels and conspiracy theorists that don't consider 'the hand that feeds them,' as you say, immune.

All of the above is my humble observation.

I think in some cases feelings get hurt because they broke a rule and don't like the wrist slap.

Just today I found a warning on my post. I was not aware for wahtever reason that you could use stars instead of swears. Now as far as my brain tells me, that is my fault. I didn't take the time to focus on that rule hence you won't be seeing any free speech posts coming from me at any time soon :-p

C'mon, it's not that bad is it. And in a way...you're complaining too.

I just get on with the good stuff and try to ignore the pointless gripes.

If it ain't fun, don't do it. People can be fools to themselves.

Some of the complaints are valid ones, and believe it or not the staff DO listen.

Sometimes they act, sometimes they just educate. Either way...if this place were perfect, I for one wouldn't want to come visit.

Remember, there is a "complain/suggestion" function, an "ignore" button, and most importantly a "log out" button.

I can't complain about my own choices can I?

Have fun "alyosha", maybe add some of the less serious forums to your favorites and be mad like me sometimes.

Thanks nerbot I will, I was not really "complaining" in that sense though, I did want to convey my feelings on the matter.I guess I have somewhat of an emotional attachment to ATS and don't much like when it's attacked that's all I know it will happen but in a way it's disheartening, Maybe here is a good example of how my thoughts don't come out in text exactly the way I wanted, in any case thanks for the point of view change.

A lot of the complaints come from long time members.

I'm still 'new' compared to many of the oldschool guys and girls, but I can understand their frustration sometimes.

As AshleyD said, it needs to be taken case-by-case. A lot of what they are upset about is the quality level I think.

Back when I joined there seem to be far more evidence and theory based discussions. As the member base has broadened, more and more people have flocked to ATS, and there isn't the high intelligence average there once was. Not saying there isn't intelligent members, there is plenty, but they don't seem to be the majority anymore.

These days it's all about how cool vampires are because of Twilight, and how aliens are totally benevolent because some book-hocking prophet says so.

I miss the old ATS, I really do. But things change, and there is still the thread gems that appear once and a while. There is just a lot more stuff to sift through to get to them.

I assure you this will not be the first complaint, nor will it be the last.

You cant please all of the people all of the time...

We used to have worse, they were DRAMAS they went on for 20 and 30 pages.....

Ahhhhh....those were the days........

All I am getting at is people should take those site complaints to the next level. Admin, Owner...maybe the CIA?

I personally don't give a rats behind to these complainers. I actually enjoy reading and laughing at the complaints they have. There's little girls being beaten, raped and sold in sex shops to perverted men. There's murders, drug addictions, financial problems, wars and starvation on this big globe of ours and these people complain about a website. " GET A LIFE "!
