Gaza assault goes on as Israel rejects truce calls

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israel rejected mounting international pressure to suspend its air offensive against Gaza militants whose rocket barrages are striking close to the country's heartland, sending warplanes Wednesday to demolish the smuggling tunnels that are Islamic Hamas' lifeline.

The diplomatic action has been set in motion by the scale of destruction in Gaza since Israel unleashed its campaign on Saturday and a death toll that Gaza officials now put at 374. Hamas says some 200 uniformed Hamas security forces have been killed and the United Nation says at least 60 civilians have died. Four Israelis have been killed by militant rocket fire, including three civilians.

Overnight, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert discussed a 48-hour truce proposal floated by France with his foreign and defense ministers. The meeting ended with a decision to pursue the punishing aerial campaign, defense and political officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussion's contents were classified.

Seems to fall under the category of recruitment to me, which is supposed to not be allowed here.

Anyway, why should Israel agree to a truce when they know from history Hamas' terrorists will simply start lobbing rockets into Israel or strapping explosives onto teenagers and send them into Israel shortly after said truce is agreed to? Truces and peace agreements have to be two sided, that means both the big dog AND the annoying fleas must cease hostillity towards each other.

Yes! By all means, protest in BRITAIN!

That does a lot of good.

I have another suggestion. Everyone that feels that strongly, go to Gaza and fight! Learn to launch rockets at civilians across the border.

Learn to have short-rounds fall on your own side, and kill children. But you can also learn how to blame it all on the Israelis.

Don't protest! If you really believe in the Gazan cause, go and fight!

What? No testes?

Since the Hamas terrorists are still attacking, their is absolutely NO reason why Israel should stop its "COUNTER" attacks.

If they want peace, they must demonstrate it by stopping their attacks.

They continue their attacks; they will continue to be counter attacked.

It is that simple. even though it does seem to get by some people, perhaps they have the same Hamas blood lust???

And darning these protests, will you should be saying, stop your attacks, hamas, you are getting innocent civilians killed on both sides.

Stop the killing you Hamas terrorists.

Stop and Israel will stop counter attacking, you stupid monkey's, Hamas.

Good, fight on Israel. Only through war is their peace.

Hamas are bloodthirsty animals and the world is protesting their indescriminate rocket firing knwing they are targeting civilian populations. The sooner Israel can eradicate this virus the better off the middle east will be.

Even the freaking Egyptians are shooting at them and those are their Arab brothers!!! Whats does that tell you?

Don't forget, both Jordan and Egypt has condoned the Hamas for this.

Even Saudi Arabia is saying it is started by and is Hamas's fault.

Three Middle East nations know the truth, only Iran wants more bloodshed.

It sounds like goodbye Hamas or bust. To leave them in power only means more problems in the future.

Is there no governmental process in the Palestinian state that allows them to 'surrender'? Seems like that is what is called for unless they would rather their mean population age drop further.

They are in occupation already and living behind walls surrounded by the Israeli army for years; how can they surrender? You have to free before you can surrender.
