Scenic Pakistani valley falls to Taliban militants

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Taliban militants are beheading and burning their way through Pakistan's picturesque Swat Valley, and residents say the insurgents now control most of the mountainous region far from the lawless tribal areas where jihadists thrive.
The deteriorating situation in the former tourist haven comes despite an army offensive that began in 2007 and an attempted peace deal. It is especially worrisome to Pakistani officials because the valley lies outside the areas where al-Qaida and Taliban militants have traditionally operated and where the military is staging a separate offensive.

This is where the real war on terror was suppose to happen but looks as though we are losing ground to a reformed group. Bush did not put enough effort to stop the ones really responsible for 911. 6 years later the Taliban are getting bolder and stronger. In 2001 there was talk of how we were going to win the hearts of the people by building up their infrastructure and empower the Afghan nation. Do it look like a nation going forward or backward?

Well you cant decimate them if they are all spread out. You want them close in.
With the war winding down in Iraq that will free up some seasoned troops for 2009-2010

I guess what I am appalled by is if we really wanted to send a message to the world that America will not stand for coward attacks we should have hit the Taliban heavy and hard even into the caves and stomped them out forever.
