Well, my fitness level isn't all that great. That I'll admit. When doing exercises though I have to be careful. 2 problems:

1) I've had two hernia surgical operations and have a plastic mesh basically holding my gut together.

2) Torn muscle (Full depth tear) in the right shoulder. So Mobility can be problematic at times. It's in the Supraspinatus muscle, Suprasinatus muscle For exercising it I use what could best be described as a Godzilla sized rubber band.

So it sounds like push ups are definitely out and abdominal exercises are most likely a no go as well? Would your doctor allow you to do any sort of crunches / leg lifts?

Squats would still be beneficial for you, I would think. Jumprope would also probably be a very effective and cheap way to get some exercise. I am not sure how it would affect your shoulder though.

I'd have to check with my doctor on that. Squats should be ok as well.

Although I had to smile when I thought about doing Jump ropes. I can just picture it.

Normal Person: (Fwip) (leap) (Fwip) (leap) (Fwip) (leap)

Deson: (Fwip) (THOOM!) (Fwip) (THOOM!) (Fwip) (THOOM!)

Flat feet and a rather distinct lackage of grace on my part.

I'll think of something. I do really appreciate the input.

Check with your doctor about the abdominal exercises. Also, as I read it your shoulder is currently torn right? I just want to make sure that you weren't talking about an old injury and that it is currently injured.

Diet control is going to be most important for you since we are pretty limited on other forms of exercise at the moment.

The injury is an old injury however the only cure for it is surgery. The exercises that I do help mitigate the pain but are not a cure. Unfortunately. I once asked the Doctor abut the possibility of playing golf. His words were "Use EXTREME caution." I then proceeded swing a club....once. Not again.

BTS Celebrity fit club..Awesome...I would like to provide my tips for a healthy lifestlye and its easy especially for some who work many hours.. I try to stay in good shape as much as possible, even with many nagging injuries that I still have lingering around I eat healthy and do circuit training, I eat about five small meals a day, Eggs, tuna , and chicken maybe a protein bar every other day and I go very light on carbs and sugars, actually almost no carbs and drink alot of water..I ride my bike alot too since i cannot run like I used to but i always keep my metabolism up and im right around my weight that i was at my separation date from the Army..I find that a strong will and discipline will help you lose weight, Its the first two weeks that are tough but you all must write your goals down and follow them...I have faith in all of you!!!!!

Great New Year's resolution, orange!

I've also started a diet to loose some weight about a month ago and I've lost 5kg since then (still 5 to go…). I've been followed by a doctor who gave me this meal plan for each week:

Breakfast: low fat milk + ham sandwich
Middle morning/afternoon: low fat yogurt
1 hour before lunch/dinner: 1 cookie + 1 fruit + 2 glasses of water

Lunch/dinner (can be different each week):
5 – meat/fish + carbs (small portion) + vegetables
2 - meat/fish + vegetables
5 – soup (without potatoes and carrots)

1 FREE day – no restrictions; this is important to gain strength to continue

It’s also important to drink water. At least 2 l. :w:

Exercise: 40 min walking (really walking, not shopping
)

I'm also in a gym; it's close to my work so I can easily go there during lunch break but… I've been soooo lazy lately… and between gym and ATS guess which wins??

i started with a special new year.s eve donut *blushing*

i will stick (being veggie) to veggies, mushrooms and 1 or 2 veggie "meat" balls

hey danamoon
great that you are in the boat too!
sounds quiet resonable what you are doing.
i still have to figure out what to do about the advices "meat + veggies" in terms of being vegetarian. i can.t afford to much tofu!
but i will talk to my doc to on monday
on friday i will start with the gym again!
i just read that it is better to gain muscles than to do all the cardio stuff.
i guess for that i will rather ride my bike and do the walking!

we all need little handhelds to got ot ATS while being at the gym dana!
when doing the weight training we could listen to ats mix or member podcasts!

Get an iphone and you can surf ATS at the gym. Please post what you plan on doing for a workout routine.

My advice is to get a real "program" together. Keep a log of what you do, including exercises, how much resistance and how many sets.... And strive to improve with every workout. If you aren't putting in real effort, you won't get real results.

still waiting for santa bringing me my iphone - ah i would love it

training plan:

every 2nd day in the gym
starting with 10 minutes bike riding
than weights:
special exercises for all muscles of the body - sorry i can.t translate the german words for the program into english!
this will last for about 70-100 minutes depending how often i do each exercise
the exercises are divided in sets, each set 15 repetions and i should do 2-3 sets
there are 9 stations covering breast muscles, shoulders, back, butt, legs, tighs inner side and outer side, and belly

then a 10 minutes stretching part

the program will be completed with anther bikeriding cylce for about 30 minutes
i could also choose crosstrainer

the days when not going to the gym i will extend my bike riding.
i am not the jogging kind, causes to much pain at my breast

edit:
for the log:
i got a scedule from my gym and i will note every day i did it and will write down the sets etc.

btw. for trizeps i will start with 5 kg but i am not sure when i should put more weight on!

I would only say, be careful to avoid overtraining. That sounds like a lot of work. For your first month, I would suggest making it a little easier. Just an example would be to reduce it to 2 sets of exercises and only do the bike on your off days. If you do that though, you need to be pushing yourself with each workout.

Make sure you don't burn yourself out too early.

For knowing when to increase your weights, what I do is this. My workout consists of doing multiple exercises where I only do 1 set of 10-15 per exercise / muscle group. If I can do all 15 without help and with good form, then I need to increase my weight.

thanks for the advice

i usually want to much all at once!

btw. you are very well informed - do you do such stuff as a professional?

the good thing at my gym: if i don.t want to do the bike riding in fresh air because i get to cold i can do it at the gym the days i am not doing the weight training

reply to post by danamoon

happy new year everybody

time to start with the resolutions:

yesterday - new year.s eve we did raclette
funny stuff
i thought i would eat a huge amount of food but since it is done in very small pans i didn.t eat as much as i supposed

about 3 veggie meatballs small
some brussle sprouts, 1/2 potatoe, some spinache, 1/2 tomatoe and cheese

i shared the cheese with my meat eating son
i put about 200 g on the table and we ate together about 100 g!

so wow!

today everthing is closed, even gyms
so i will start with the gym tomorrow afternoon after the son went to his dad!

btw. does anybody got advices how to deal with restaurants? they usually give you huge porions of food and you want to eat all because of the money which is spent!

In the US we bring home the extras, doggie bags.

I don't know about Germany but when I was England recently we had a lot of food left over in a restaurant and they left it. I guess better than over eating but seemed a waste of money to leave it. Apparently it is the norm to leave leftovers.

Basically what I am saying. Just eat what you want/need and take the rest home for another meal.
