I couldn't find this story on ATS, so I am posting it because it is important:

news.yahoo.com

By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer – Sun Dec 28, 11:36 pm ET

NEW YORK – It's the latest story that touched, and betrayed, the world.
"Herman Rosenblat and his wife are the most gentle, loving, beautiful people," literary agent Andrea Hurst said Sunday, anguishing over why she, and so many others, were taken by Rosenblat's story of love born on opposite sides of a barbed-wire fence at a concentration camp.
"I question why I never questioned it. I believed it; it was an incredible, hope-filled story."
On Saturday, Berkley Books canceled Rosenblat's memoir, "Angel at the Fence," after he acknowledged that he and his wife did not meet, as they had said for years, at a sub-camp of Buchenwald, where she allegedly sneaked him apples and bread. The book was supposed to come out in February.
Rosenblat, 79, has been married to the former Roma Radzicky for 50 years, since meeting her on a blind date in New York. In a statement issued Saturday through his agent, he described himself as an advocate of love and tolerance who falsified his past to better spread his message.

This is a nice example how history can be changed by distorting facts. This guy was caught, but who knows how many stories like this passed for 'true holocaust' experience?

What is interesting, is this sudden 'anger' and 'sadness' over this fabrication, maybe things are changing, maybe some other 'true stories' will be exposed as fake?

Time will tell...

Cheers

This is a very interesting turn of events. I recall hearing their story and being brought to tears-- it is incredibly moving. I don't really know what to make of this news. I understand and sympathize with the many who are upset by the fact that the tale was fabricated, but I don't have a particularly passionate response to it. It is still a beautiful story, true or not. While this is disappointing, I don't have any ill will towards the Rosenblats, regardless of their motive for the fabrication--monitary or truly beneficent.

I agree and I don't have any ill will towards those people, but the bottom line is if you write memoirs it suppose to be true events...

or is it?

This shows why I always have more doubts about stories from writers and actors, the first know how to create a good story, the second know how to make a story credible.

And I think that those that were really affected were his fellow prisoners, he made it (even) more difficult for them to show that the "holocaust" was real, this will be probably used as a new weapon by some holocaust deniers.

It probably will, but the problem today is that every criticism about the holocaust is called 'holocaust denying' and a lot of people, who just said 'we have proof that instead of 12 million, 1.5 million Jews were killed', rot in jail because it is considered a crime to say such a thing...

these two people probably will not be jailed for fabricating this holocaust story, but I think it's not fair for some people that are jailed only because they were searching for history facts and the truth...
