Egyptian guard, Palestinian man killed at Gaza border

www.alertnet.org

RAFAH, Egypt, Dec 28 (Reuters) - An Egyptian border guard and a Palestinian youth were killed during border clashes between Hamas and Egyptian security forces on Sunday in turmoil triggered by Israel's assault on Gaza.

An Egyptian security source said forces of the Palestinian Hamas group had also shot an Egyptian policeman in the leg.

This is a side of the conflict you rarely hear about, clashes between Egyptian forces and Hamas. It does happen and there have been firefights in the past between Egyptian security forces and Hamas.

The fact this happens really bothers me. The fact that it isn't even reported bothers me more. Gaza needs real help, the help that only powerful players can give. It is a tiny, tiny area like that of a county in the US.

Rather than shooting at Egyptians, Hamas needs to really look at Egypt for patronage.

I believe there is history between Hamas and Egypt and that is why Egypt doesn't want Hamas in their land. But the fact that Egypt also closed their border to Gaza should also be criticize. Why didn't UN try to bring food in thru Egypt instead of Israel?

There is evidence to support that Hamas and Egypt are collaborating on the closure of the border:

Palestinians began trying to cross over into Egypt through a hole in the wall after the bombing, witnesses said, but Egyptian police and Hamas gunmen began firing in an attempt to stop them.

edition.cnn.com...

There is a lot of conflicting reporting going on, the majority credits Hamas with the breaching of the Egyptian border so this report stuck out in a big way. .

It was reported earlier today that Egyptian forces were spraying machine gun fire at the border to keep Palestinians from crossing.

Wow-what a way to help your Arab "brother" there eh?

I remember reading that as well. Now if you search the news articles of the day, all that is cited are the terms "warning shots fired into the air, etc."

I suspect, as with the Georgia conflict, there is heavy manipulation of the media by both sides.

Egypt gets bribed by the US with 'Aid Money' to stay out of Israel's dealings with the Palestinians. Do they want to risk losing money? Of coure not. They don't give a toss that the worlds largest concentration camp is perched right on their border. They just don't want to lose the money.

Thats not the point. The point is that the Egyptions-the Palestinians Arab brothers are spraying machine gun fire either into the air or where-ever to keep them from fleeing to safety!!! This is their ARAB BROTHERS!!!!
