Pakistan redeploying troops to Indian border

news.yahoo.com

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan began moving thousands of troops from the Afghan border toward India, officials and witnesses said Friday, raising tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors and possibly undermining the U.S.-backed campaign against al-Qaida and the Taliban.

The country also announced that it was canceling all military leave in the aftermath of last month's terror attack on the Indian financial capital of Mumbai.

India has blamed Pakistani militants for the terrifying three-day siege; Pakistan has demanded that India back this up with better evidence.

Pakistan's latest moves were seen as a warning that it would retaliate if India launches air or missile strikes against militant targets on Pakistani soil — rather than as an indication that a fourth war was imminent between the two countries

Also "This is a serious blow to the war on terror in the sense that the whole focus is now shifting toward the eastern border," said Talat Masood, a former general and military analyst. "It will give more leeway to the militants and increased space to operate."

Not getting a very good feeling about this. I hope this is just a scare tactic by Pakistan but I am not getting a good feeling about this. There's just way too many things that this could lead up to and none of them good.

When the cat's away the mouse will play. Now the US can go into the no man land and go after the terrorist without worrying about being heavily scrutinized by Pakistan. Pakistan will keep its people's attention on what India is doing. This is good news for the US and in a way I think the whole India Pakistan thing was rigged to play out this way. It will also send Pakistani terrorist to focus more on India force rather than sending them into Afghanistan.

I'm more concerned with cancellation of military leave.

The country also announced that it was canceling all military leave in the aftermath of last month's terror attack on the Indian financial capital of Mumbai.

Seems to me that they would only cancel ALL military leave, if they were expecting to need them for something. Maybe some sort of retaliation against some of they're provinces?

The squeeze is about to take place. Like an Anaconda snake.
US forces already in Afghanistan to the north, India attacking from the south. Pakistan moving their forces to their southern border with India will leave their northern border vulnerable to the buildup of US forces. The Taliban will only be able to flee into Iran. Iran really doesn't want them in their country because that will give the US a reason to invade Iran. Which is what I beleive is the real motive behind all this.
Yep The SH*T is about to hit the fan folks.

I seriously doubt this is going to escalate. I do not believe india will strike pakistan in anyway. If they did there would be retaliation by the pakistani forces which will lead into big scale war that both countries can not afford, especially around this time. This is not iraq, both of these countries have nuclear arms. With a nuclear arsenal behind you it slims down the chances of war being broken out.

To all those people who say this will lead to invasion of iran, let me tell you that it will not. Right now Israel can't strike iran for many reasons. It is unlikely that israel will receive support from US, US has too much on its plate right now. Iran is a powerful nation that can match israel in a conventional war, no problem. Israel is only saber rattling because they know they do not have the offensive capabilities to deactivate iran's so called nuclear weapon production. Israel is a class bully with a big brother at the play yard.

To come back to Pakistan there is very little chance that you will see india striking pakistan.

This is just my 2 cents.

It is not a blow to the war on terror.

Its a win win point for the Americans.

If the Pakistanis move forces from the western border the Americans will have another excuse to step up their drone attacks ( which they already are doing, but can not land troops or special ops forces in the area).

This will further antagonize the local population and cause for further chaos.
This will help the American cause in the long run to destabilize Pakistan and the region, thus to strengthen their hold on the afghan / Pakistan border which happens to be a mineral rich oil and gas corridor.

If the war does happen between India and Pakistan, it will again be beneficial for the Americans, because war ultimately means huge loans and rebuilding contracts thus getting the ailing banking industry and contractors in making money AND at the same time it will serve to destroy Pakistani and Indian armies.

So ... when you know only ONE party benefits from this affair, will it be plausible that the same party planned, encouraged and helped the mumbai attacks ?

my personal feeling is that india won't strike pakistan
but when striking, the 'element of surprise' is important, so even though there's no indication, maybe that's how india wants it i.e. no indication

as far as pakistan is concerned, in his most recent speech, zardari confessed that pakistan has "cancer" and "nonstate actors" , saying that terrorists are present in pakistan

pakistan has said that india hasn't given any evidence to prove that the terrorists behind the mumbai attacks were from pak
pak has also said that the evidence given by UK and US "won't stand in court"
so, to sum up, pakistan admits that there are terrorists on pakistani soil, but these terrorists are just not responsible for the mumbai attacks
even if they are not responsible for mumbai, there must be a reason why pak calls them 'terrorists' , perhaps for some previous acts of terrorism. isn't that enough reason for pak to act on these terrorists?

Which explains perfectly 'who benefits' from the Mumbai attacks. It's the Muslim extremists who benefit of course. Why wouldn't they want to give excuse to the further encirclement of Iran, and a possible nuclear exchange in the region?
