I just saw this and was trying to get input on why a military craft would be hovering over a neighborhood like this.

helicopter hovers over Tempe neighborhood

At about 2 a.m. last Friday, some Tempe residents were awakened by a helicopter circling over their neighborhood near McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road. About 200 of them called Tempe police. On Saturday morning, that helicopter returned. Tempe police dispatchers fielded about 100 calls. But as of late Tuesday,no one could say just who was flying that helicopter or why it was hovering over a south central Tempe neighborhood. The helicopter had been registered as a "military flight" but it's been difficult to learn much more, said Oddvar Tveit, an environmental quality specialist for the city of Tempe. No, that helicopter wasn't from the Luke Air Force Base or Border Patrol or the National Guard or the Phoenix Federal Bureau of Investigation, officials told The Republic. Representatives from the Tucson-based Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Fort Huachuca in southeastern Arizona, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and local police departments denied their involvement too. The Scottsdale bureau of the Federal Aviation Administration refused comment when contacted Tuesday. "It's kind of frustrating," said Duane Washkowiak, chair of the Tempe Aviation Commission, a citizen's group which advises City Council about the impact of aircraft noise. Washkowiak's wife was startled out of sleep by the sound of the helicopter early Friday and he called police when he learned of her concerns. A dispatcher told him it was a military operation

What do you guys think this operation is about? seems kind of strange, especially with all the denials from government agencies.

As far as I know the military doesn't have many UH-1s anymore. I know the Army planned to retire them all by the end of 2004. The USAF had them in California, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and Washington. They only had 62 of them to start with. The Marines still fly them, and are upgrading them to the UH-1Y. Maybe it was a Marine aircraft.

Alot of them were sold to civilians as well. Many are used as camera birds. Have you checked to see if they were filming anything around there?

Gotcha it just kind of caught my eye as weird to be hovering over a residential neighborhood 2 nights in a row. Will have to see if any marine bases are close to there.

I lived in Tempe for two years and i know Guadalupe rd very well. There is nothing intimidating about that rd, which btw happened to be diagonally across from me and Walmart.

I suppose they have to upset people, they may as well do it in Tempe.

Just nothing more to do than upset people and show muscle.

Ok, you know that Wal-Mart i mentioned?

There's your conspiracy.

Not sure if it is related, but there is a Mosque at Guadalupe and McClintock at approximately 6291 South McClintock, next door to the "Generations Medical Center". In addition, this Mosque has at least 10 outside video cameras that might have recorded some of the event that night. Also, there frequently are people at that location at all hours of the day/night.
