I went out and bought my girlfriend an engagement ring (my wallet is weeping) and need ideas for the actual proposal. I'm popping the question on Christmas (I bought her real presents too, don't worry) as she had said once that was what she wanted. I just have no idea how I'm going to do it. I was thinking about putting the ring in a larger box but my parents seem to think that is a horribly corny thing to do. Any suggestions? I really want to surprise her but she's a crafty one and can usually see right through my little schemes. You guys are pretty darn clever, I look forward to some good ideas!

Man, I have never been this nervous! The last two nights I've had nightmares where the ring is plastic when I open the box.

Aww To sweet

Hmm you could tie it on a piece of string hanging from some mistletoe, ask her for a kiss under it on xmas morning and kinda let the ring dangle down, as she then notices it, get on your knees and ask,

Another idea would be to dress up as santa and tell her to sit on your knee for a extra special prezzie!

You should get her a puppy or kitten, and put it inside a box, and the attach a box to it's collar, then give it to her.

It's a good idea but I already bought her a puppy 8 months ago. Now we have three dogs in the house and I don't think adding to the flock is a good idea. I was thinking about sending the puppy in with the ring tied around his neck, but knowing him he would eat it and poop out seven thousand dollars worth of diamond!

Why not just stop thinking about it and do it the old fashioned way, after she opens all her presents and there are no more left just get on your knee and ask

That's kind of the idea I am leaning towards at the moment. I just thought a little creativity might be nice and figured someone here might have a good idea.

They always say that it's easiest to write something down,if you're having trouble thinking about how to do this. Then write it down.....then.....print out every word,1 word per page, put them in individual envelopes and hand them to her in order (after she's opened the other gifts) Ring is in the last envelope.

It's quite possibly even cornier than a box in a box

edit

you could make it amusing, put a few sentances in there which all start with *name* will you....go get me a beer ect.

I actually almost like that one, but then again I do have a corny side. I'm so freaking nervous right now.

Tie it to a bough on the tree, and if it goes unnoticed, give a subtle hint. I've also heard that putting it in her stocking is not a good idea.

Good luck and a Merry Christmas to you.

Thanks for all the help guys, SHE SAID YES! WOO HOO! I did it the old fashioned way at three in the morning, couldn't wait any longer. I was shaking like a leaf, never been so nervous. She didn't even look at the diamond for about two hours, just kept staring at me which is one of the things I love about her.

You only gave people 2 days to give you ideas before your proposal.

I submit that this time next year, or on your 3 year anniversay, or 5 year--maybe on her birthday, you jump out of a cake with another trinket and ask if "she'll stay married to you", to which of course she'll say yes, as it is not really a question, but a statement that you'll never forget you adore her.

Women love reaffirmations-and face it the 5-25-50 anniversary set is too long a wait.

I love the part where you love her watching you.
congradulations...

Aw! Sorry I didn't see this thread until now. I LOVED Asala's mistletoe idea. That would have been awesome! I'm so happy for you she said yes.

When I was single, I gave God a list of three things to help me know who the right one would be. One of the things on that list was to have my future husband propose by placing the ring into a single long stemmed red rose. Then one day my boyfriend (now husband) gave me a long stemmed red rose. I went to smell it and noticed a twinkle in the center. He also did the other two things on my list so I knew he was the one God had planned for me.

Again, sorry I missed the thread and wasn't able to offer any suggestions beforehand. Congratulations on her acceptance and I wish for you both to have a very happy engagement and marriage!

Thanks again, I'm still pretty excited about the whole thing. The other night we were driving and I was yelling at some jerk that cut me off. She looks at me and goes 'I own your mouth now, watch your language!'

Awesome. It's already starting.
Do you guys have a date or a roughly set date in mind yet?

It has already begun :shk: but that's OK. I sort of knew what I was getting into. We have yet to set a date, but we are both thinking summertime. Her dream wedding (I suppose I have to make it happen now) is on a bluff on a summer night, overlooking the water. I kinda like that, and the family has a lot of property overlooking one of the great lakes. The property has a very nice bluff, and quite a few cabins. The grand hall (family joke) is pretty large and should seat 100 people comfortably for dinner. I think it may be a good spot.
