DNA Screening of every newborn

In April of 2008, President Bush signed into law S.1858 which allows the federal government to screen the DNA of all newborn babies in the U.S. This was to be implemented within 6 months meaning that this collection is now being carried out. Congressman Ron Paul states that this bill is the first step towards the establishment of a national DNA database.

Natural News

When i read this, i thought i must have been having a nightmare. Can one consider the implications of this???

Every child born will have his/her DNA screened and then a sample stored in the gov vaults for future use. I mean it would be one thing if they do the screening against possible health threats and destroyed the sample. But from what i can see here, it is the opposite. The sample is then stored and is the property of the state (and possibly the friendly neighborhood biocorp).

I am appalled.

here is the link to the text of this piece of Legislation which was apparently passed by Bush & Co.
Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act of 2007

No worries. Bush is keeping America safe. Notice how there has not been a terrorist attack in 7 years? Because he is smoking them from their caves and putting them on the run. This DNA vault will help track future terrorists that wish to do us harm.

In the end: this is a good thing.

Couldn't they concievably track down adults using this database? By putting thier Children/Nieces/Nephews/Cousins/Grandkids in this database they could track down family lines in cold cases they have DNA for I'd imagine.

But then again if these babies have nothing to hide they won't put up a fuss. /sarcasm

Might as well, if they grow up to be monsters, we'll have them by the tail.

If this is accurate, this is singularly the death of any sort of freedom you thought you had. I cannot begin to imagine what "future use" stored dna may have beyond ensuring your compliance to any future laws. Oh wait, any one see "The sixth day"? (Movie with Arnold S, regarding cloning)

If lady liberty ever truly existed, she would be shedding a tear on this bit of news. Personally, I'm appalled.

Thanks for reading.

He's looking for the literal "bastard children of the illuminati."

Also trying to extinguish the holy grail bloodline, before a Merovingian *snip* in his sorry empire of dirt.

exactly ... Exactly!!!!! dna collection from every person in the country. With complete ownership rights. There is always controversy about doing pre-employment psych profiling. There are unlimited implications for that. But consider having your dna stored and everything listed on some database has a big creepiness factor on its own.

Not only that they have included this within the legislation:

“any condition that is not one of the core conditions designated by the AdvisoryCommittee”
Government screening saves lives act

It has the potential to apply to anything the government classifies as a "condition". I know companies often tag their newly recruited staff into potential management or non-management categories depending on their psych profiles. But this just opens a whole new can of worms.

And not only that, but all this coming at a time when new research is beginning to cast doubt on the deterministic "calvinist view" that our fate is wrapped up in our genes, because they are thought to control us. In fact, scientists are searching for non-DNA examples of variation in populations, to study instances of natural selection where the gene is not the unit of selection.

In other words, there are some aspects of the "promise of biotechnology" that stand on questionable premises from a scientific viewpoint.

This is particularly true of "DNA evidence" used to exculpate criminals in their appeals. It turns out that some DNA evidence is not nearly as rock solid as Law and Order & CSI would have us believe.

An old acquaintance of mine absolutely refused to take urine analysis tests as a precondition of employment, not because she was a drug user, but rather, insisted that voodoo could be practiced upon an individual using their DNA. She feared that urine analysis tests were a blind by the shadow government for mass mind control; sounds like something out of a Robert Anton Wilson Novel, really. HA! it is kinda creepy though. Didn't John Ashcroft have some desire of collecting DNA from every American by a q-tip cheek swab? "You can have my DNA when you scrape it from my cold, plastic urine cup, daddy-o."

Thats awesome!!!!!!!!

oooooo spookey spookey Evil ideas and poor judgment has created a library that makes even the wicked uneasy.

Im not all that worried myself. Yea it sounds creepy, and all that. Not for it, so dont get confused here. All in all though, it sounds like an impossible thing to keep. There are just too many people. No to mention the fact that every hacker in the burbs are already drooling at the chance to take that library down.

When neither good guys or bad guys like a plan they UNITE for the good of mankind yadda yadda yadda. This things goin down. No worries.

We've been fighting this in the U.K for some time. No matter how much the people dislike it, our gov still insists.

They're that insistent on it that one has to wonder why they really want our DNA. I doubt it's to help solve crimes because we have enough cameras watching us to prevent them; and most "criminals" aren't clever, weary or bothered enough to wear gloves to hide fingerprints let alone cover their tracks. I don't think it's to help pharmaceutical companies because they're more than capable of asking people to provide DNA samples (or getting insurance companies to coerce) if they wish to analyze/screen DNA.

Wonder if it has something to do with preserving the gene pool in the event of Armageddon? Or, bigger conspiracy, are they searching for non-human DNA? Perhaps a more evolved being or aliens???

Anyway, there's nothing more personal and private to any individual (or twin...) than his/her/its DNA. Only the individual it builds should be privileged enough to determine who reads, copies and stores that book.

Wow.
Spread info, march the streets, strike, organize and demonstrate.
This gene database will be used against your kids. No doubt about it.
Do something and do it now!
