Disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard says in a new documentary that he still struggles with his sexuality yet is committed to his marriage for the sake of his children.

Haggard, 52, resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and was fired as senior pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs in November 2006 after a former male prostitute went public with allegations that Haggard paid him for sex and used methamphetamine.

I'm well aware of Haggard's work in his heyday and down fall from grace. I find his story fascinating, on many different levels. For one how does someone maintain such a double life... condemn gays and junkies in a sermon and in the next minute doing the same? How could he keep up the facade of having a wife and kids when this is a fundamental contradiction to his true nature. ... and most importantly, whatever happened to "love the sinner but not the sin?" For the church to abandon him during this crisis, doesn't come off very christian.

I saw Alexandra Pelosi's documentary "Journeys with George" it was amazing, i look forward to seeing her latest "The Trials of Ted Haggard"... hopefully it will answer some of my questions.

Haggard is just another example of those that scream loudest against something are usually fighting their own demons with it.

Jimmy Swaggert screamed against porn cause he was a porn junkie.

Jerry Falwell screamed against drugs because he was tripping on them.

The Westboro baptist church screams crazy against homosexuality and it wouldn't surprise me if the whole lot of them turns out to be gay/lesbian.

The only battle Ted Haggard has to fight is with himself.

It's not wrong to be gay.

What's wrong is to scream against your own nature when that is the nature the creator of all things has given you.

though off topic I had to comment, i initially thought the post said hagrid says he still struggles with his sexuality, i though i must of missed a sub plot in the harry potter books.

If Haggard was ‘abandoned’ by his Christian fellows, that would certainly be wrong of them. He most certainly does not belong in a place of leadership with such obvious struggles though.

This guy is such a self delusional clown. Just admit your a bisexual drug user and get over it.

What he is doing is self promoting himself because he craves media attention. This way he still gets the limelight.

As they say any publicity is good publicity.

Makes me wonder how much Oprah gave him to come on the show...

and what financial agreement he made with the documentary producers...

just as well i have been wondering the same about Blagojevich recent publicity circuit.

I wouldn't surprise me if either one strikes a book deal after this.

Back on 12-9-07, after Haggard had been booted from the church, a 24yr old named Matthew Murray shot up the church Haggard founded, the New Life Church of Colorado Springs, killing two. It is known that Murray, who boasted of his own homosexual episodes, had his own issues with Haggard and participated in protests at the church after the scandal broke.

A year before that, on 11-15-06(two weeks after the scandal broke), a 28yr old named Thomas Hinrichs* had been arrested near the church with a trunkful of weapons. He may have been targeting the church; at his trial, Hinrichs spoke of discussions he had with Ted Haggard, the disgraced former minister.

Personally, I would like to hear a bit less about Haggard's sexual life and a bit more about a possible connection he has to domestic terrorists.

Interesting, i didn't know about Matthew Murray.

From what i've gathered in my initial dig, he posted under the username "nghtmrchld26" on the forum "Azusa Street Survivors" run by the Association of Former Pentecostals, a non-profit group that was created to help people who have left Pentecostal and charismatic churches. Found quite a few quoted posts of his in articles on the tragedy.

"This whole sex thing really discourages me. I didn't learn what sex really was until age 19....unfortanately not by hands on experience. I see all my friends and other people having sex, getting married and all while I can't hardly even get a date even though I'm in excellent shape and "groomed." I try to be nice and considerate and all yet I can never get a (female) date. I am at least able to get some male action but I wish I could just once be with a girl. It kind of sucks to be a young adult like this and to have never been with a girl.

Yeah, I know I suck and a lot of people hate me...but there is hope for getting laid by the end of this year."

"Really, there's nothing wrong with cutting, nor with suicide, we're already going to hell for some stupid sin and/or not following the "true version of christianity." If you follow Bill Gothard but don't speak in tongues and/or listen to that rock and roll devil music you are probably already worshiping Satan and allowing demons to possess/opress you and into your home. Seriously, I doubt cutting or suicide is going to "cause you to go to hell more."

Leading up to the Sunday shootings Murray gave a post with the title: "My YWAM (Youth With a Mission) Horror Story." He complained about being removed from the youth mission program and added, "Why was I told that I couldn't be a missionary because I wasn't 'social enough'?

In an October 6 post Murray also wrote: "We'll make our own religion and be our own God's instead listening to some abusive pedophile church like what I was raised in telling us who's 'saved' and who's not. During this dark period I've realized this is not the way just to be a martyr. I can't walk alone any longer and I'll fight for the ones who can't fight. If I lose at then least I tried. If I have to give my life you can have it."

On the morning before his shootout:
"God, I can't wait till I can kill you people. Feel no remorse, no sense of shame, I don't care if I live or die in the shoot-out. All I want to do is kill and injure as many of you . . . as I can especially Christians who are to blame for most of the problems in the world."

This "Youth with a Mission" founded by Haggard's church... must have really messed with his head... evidence being in this snap shot of one of his posts on YWAM. Could easily pass as crazy paranoid cult ideology. Gives new light to one of Voltaire's insights "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities". In this case Murray not only saw the absurdities but the abuse of such... as well as the hypocrisies and lies... which in turn, in part, made him commit these murders.
