RIAA President: No Talk of Blacklisting File Sharers

news.cnet.com

How long a network will deny Internet access to the accused has not been worked out yet, said Sherman, adding that the RIAA is negotiating these deals with ISPs on a case-by-case basis. That means, for example, practices will differ from one ISP to the next. One might send three e-mail warnings while a competitor may send two. Someone may suspend a customer for six months while another for a year.
"The details on the sanctions have to be worked out," Sherman said. "There's no one-size-fits-all approach."

These reports about the RIAA cutting access to the Internet (for those who like to pirate music) are rolling off the press like fresh doughnuts on a conveyor belt. I just posted an article about the RIAA conspiring with your Internet Service Provider to block access to certain sites. Now, fresh off a reporters Enter-key, the RIAA is tampering with blacklisting certain users from 6 months to 1 year from the Internet! They have not figured out the kinks of creating such a "black-ball" list... so right now, the reports are "unofficial."

What sayeth ye ATS?

But can one imagine... think about it folks... how would you feel the next morning realizing that it is your 1st day of beginning your 1 Year Sentence of being black-balled from the Internet completely! Everything is pretty much internet driven; one would practically, if not literally, be cut off from the world as though he or she doesn't exist.

Here's the problem. Your just accused.

Someone is playing judge and jury for sometimes illegitimate usage with P2P software.

Now let's talk wireless connections using your neighbor's router. I guess no one thought that one out.

LOL! One's neighbor would be pissed wondering as to why they couldn't access the Internet after your usage. I'm going to set-up my Guest Account now for any family & friends that decide they want to use my desktop or laptop and play the role of the RIAA and ISP's and monitor, if not block, the websites that are surfed so that I'm never locked out.

Good point that you made though...

From a perspective inside the record industry I can tell you that these people at RIAA aren't nearly smart enough, nor posesing enough leverage to do anything like that. The reord industry is a bout 1/5 as wealthy and powerful as it used to be, even from a few years ago.

THey really cant pull something like this off. Trust me I work with these people and they ain't that smart. and as far as big money goes, like really big money influencial amounts of money. money that could buy you the leverage needed to do something like that just isn't generated in the record industry. not now, not in the past. for as glamorous as it seems there isn't that type of insane money.

I think black listing would be much more difficult even for more influencial industries.
