Offical, YouTube Boycott, on December 19th, 2008

There is a Boycott of YouTube tomorrow (December 19th 2008)

YouTube has just come out with new rules of what will be allowed or not allowed.

In other words - they have offically started their censorship of videos being put on YouTube.

They now have the right to take out videos, they feel are offensive - and there is no more "Free Speech" on YouTube.

We urge everyone on YouTube to participate in a blackout on December 19th 2008. We have chosen this date because we needed enough time after this video was posted to gather enough attention and supporters in order to have an effect on the traffic on YouTube. So we figured almost two weeks from now would be a credible amount of time. The blackout can last how ever long each user feels is appropriate. We sincerely hope that everyone who is watching joins us on that day for this civil protest. Please do not forget that all of your clicks and video posts made this site what it is today. Without your clicks, watches, and videos there would be no YouTube. Thank You.

Please get this out there, and please let's all show YouTube - they can not censor videos that may show what is really happening in the world.

I actually feel we should go one step further and delete our accounts we have there.

Please we need to do this, and somehow we need to have another alternative to YouTube.

I tried to insert the video for the boycott, but I am sorry, I do not know how to insert the video. If someone can also tell me how to do that, it would be great. I have looked and looked to find the answer on ats, but have not been able to. Sorry It is not a youtube or google video, so you need to go to the link, I guess to see it.

You could download the video, host it on youtube and embed it lol.

I don't think it's wrong to remove offensive videos, as long as they don't blow it out of proportions. But on the other hand, things like this may contribute to the internet neutrality.

YouTube has never been free of censorship or control.

During the Anonymous/Scientology blitz, they regularly bowed to pressure form Scientology and their front groups to have genuine protest material removed.
View counts were manipulated regularly in this "war", and highly popular Anon videos were held back from main search results.

Perhaps you did not hear but the top conspiracy theorists of youtube all had their accounts deleted. No violation of rules no threats or wrong doing at all .....all they did was voice opinions of dissent. Their is a thread about it here on ATS.

BUT yes you should use meta cafe or live leak or any number of other video sharing sites.

Youtube can go to hell for all I care because I will never go back to youtube.

Forget the change, they banned teabowbrain creator of zeitgiest as well as most of the other top conspiracy theorists. They did a massive sweep the other month. No reason given no rules violated but if you had user generated videos of government dissent and you were popular (A million views or better) your account was deleted and videos removed.

As for the censorship at utube. They are free to do anything they want. Boycotting at a mass level will certainly send a message. But like another poster said, I need info before I buy into the action.

A lot of them did have their accounts deleted, but I don't think it was some conspiracy..They uploaded copyrighted material which is illegal......You can't just steal someones video and upload it to youtube as your own, which is what a lot of them did.

There is a site dedicated to documenting the banned videos off of youtube.

Pretty cool how someone has decided to track the rejects.

I could not find one credible source of information and this all seems like alot of paranoia to me.

I 'm not boycotting until someone provides proof.

If you have something important to say, being blocked from youtube shouldn't stop you.

I'm sure most of these "top conspiracy theorists" are intelligent enough to find other means to get their message out.

People like ace did take copyrighted material, from the discovery channel and elsewhere, and that is illegal, and yes I watched many of them on youtube, and they were ripped from the discovery channel and others... Of course I'm not saying every channel was taken down for that reason...

No, I will not forget the change, that was given as the reason for the boycott.

I have a better idea. Anyone that feels they need to "boycott" youtube should instead stay off the internet, unplug the computer, open the front door, walk out it and go somewhere in the real world.

However check your fowards in email, make sure it isn't one of those boycott gas stations days first.

If it is true that the banned vid's contained stolen, copyrighted material, only someone who supports criminal activity would support this boycott. I don't care for thieves, hate them in fact, so I'll have to research this further.

If Jones is siding with people who are stealing their material, I'm not exactly surprised.

You Tube is privately owned and if they don't stop the thieves from posting they will leave themselves open to lawsuits they would loose. You can't yell censorship on a privately owned board any more than can say it is perfectly OK to steal a car and take it for a joyride and then insist you only borrowed it. Same childish mentality.

If people want to make their own video's then make them, don't steal the footage.

If I'm not mistaken this whole thread is against ATS T&C. You can not recruit here.
