Thank you for being a part of my social experiment.

You have conclusively proven that you are personally filled with rage in a personal vendetta towards an individual whom has a different opinion than you on a specific article hosted by ABC.

Thank you for proving the ego is stronger than the intellect. Willing to lie, twist, manipulate, and deflect in order to make your point. I did not need to stoop so low. All I had to do was keep asking you to back up what you say. I am sorry it comes to you running off without having done it even once.

P.S. I am really done playing with you about this here. The OP and title are clear and the fact that news shows are spreading stories that are not news is quite relevant. Whining about mental illness is not. Spinning around what I ask in order to cover for just plain saying crazy things is also not. Argue off topic all you like but stop pulling me into it. Go back to the appropriate threads where you were proven wrong and a liar to do that. I will meet you there to talk about that. I think this thread is clearly about something else.

Hey guys, you've gone four days without deteriorating into a flame fest.

Do you need a ref to get between you and push you back into your corners before you break that streak?

and therefore should be dismissed as nothing they say or believe can be trusted or factual

I don't think anyone said it better. This IS what they are trying to accomplish. At least now we know we ARE NOT a bunch of loons, or they wouldn't be attacking this site in the first place.

As I stated at the beginning of this topic, this article is in no way an attempt by the MSM to undermine sites like ATS. As I have stated before this very topic has been mentioned by researchers in the field for years now. It is simply a fluff piece and nothing more. Even if a person that doesn't follow conspiracy theories saw fit to read this article I doubt they would even remember it after a few hours. It simply isn't interesting reading. I guarantee it has made more impact on the lives of the people who are bothering to discuss it on here than anyone else.

Where is the evidence, other than one news article, that there is an "imminent attack on ATS"?

Is the idea in itself not paranoid and delusional?

As I said before, they do this to create uproar in our little community so that they will receive massive amounts of hits on the website.

I just wanted to share my thoughts on this.

Yes, I do think some conspiracy websites cause you to be delusional. There are plenty of BS artists on the net out there. There are all kinds of them. Bloggers, the owner of www.obamacrimes.com, and plenty more.

So, in a sense these conspiracy websites do make people delusional.

Maybe not ATS, a discussion based website, but I would argue that certain conspiracy theory websites DO make one go crazy.

If you need any proof you should have seen me a few years ago. I wasn't really a pretty sight.

That's a really good point. I do not think they thought there was anything to worry about until they saw their ad revenue start to drop. Now they see how many people are really out here reading this stuff and they must be getting scared.

Sorry, who made you the expert again?

I believe that would be your opinion, no?

After four days of dissecting the damn thing because I'm too stubborn to let go, I am more convinced now than ever that it is deliberate propaganda.

I recommend reading it with an eye toward what an unbiased report would say.

Oh, and the main guy who researches and publishes on this in the scholarly journals?

His conclusions are quite different from ABC's, and his name is not even mentioned in this piece.

Fluff can have an impact too.

That does sound a little paranoid and possibly delusional.

After all that, you are asking where evidence is of something? Interesting. So when the story backs up an idea that sounds good to us, it does not need any research, facts, or sources. But when someone opens a thread discussing the result of that, you ask for evidence? I hope you all enjoy your thread. There has to be something better to read here.

The article doesn't come to any conclusions. It states flat out that more research needs to be done. And in the end a single newspaper article isn't going to affect anything. For them to do something as drastic as shutting down ATS they're going to need countless studies showing that this site is harmful enough to people's mental health to warrant it being shut down. Whatever people may believe about the government one can still expect a huge outcry from numerous organizations if freedom of speech is silenced.

This is something else we often overlook on this site.

We tend to want to bicker with anyone who's opinion differs from our own.

I would make a heavy wager there are people right now sitting in D.C. laughing so hard their federal reserve notes are bleeding green down their pant legs at this. Probably saying to each other such things as: "Look at these people, they spend so much time fighting amongst themselves they have no clue what we're doing to them right now." or "These people will never be able to unite against us, they hate each other too badly." or "Don't tell me propaganda doesn't work in America Dick (Cheney), now pay up."

I got some bad news for all of us.....

United we stand, divided we fall.

We are being used as pawns against each other, gays vs. straights, men vs. women, blacks vs. whites, dogs vs. cats. So long as we maintain this stance we lose. Our power is in our unity. The government greatly fears this and that is why they have so many people on their payroll that's sole purpose is to drive wedges into society and keep us divided. The sad part is that we are playing the roles written for us as if we were vying for an academy award.

Here is where our power lies, money. Our government is a cash consuming machine. We cannot just not pay taxes, we will be in the clink. What we can do; however, is organize a no work day to get their attention, if that does not work we can organize a no work week. This will get their attention to the tune of between 10-70 billion dollars, also if we do not spend at all during that time, we will also incorporate the help of many business as they also depend on our federal reserve notes for survival.

Will this hurt us? Absolutely; however we must remember 2 things, 1) it will hurt them worse. and 2) if you have an abscessed tooth and you do nothing the pain is long term and worsens with time, in fact it can eventually cause death; however, if you go to the dentist and have it removed, it hurts pretty bad for a day or two then the pain is gone permanently. Our government has become an abscessed tooth people, it is time to have that tooth fixed.

Also I would find it extremely difficult for employers to fire 100 million people or so for taking this time off, if it were a coordinated effort with a very large participation, I can pretty much guarantee it would work.

Here is a person that is clearly suffering from some form of paranoia. Furthermore, others are buying into these delusions and supporting them. Now, some of you may argue that I have no proof that this person is suffering from a mental disorder. However, is it more believable that this person is being followed by the government for having done nothing other than post on this site or that their suffering from paranoia?

wouldn't it be a trip if he was being followed?

I mean - it must happen - once in a while don't you think? to someone?

I once went through a bizarre little series of incidents - I was relating them to a friend - and I said "I think someone is trying to kill me"

well, I knew nobody was really trying to kill me :-)

and yet, such a strange series of events...

the mind sees connections that don't exist

it connects dots for no apparent reason - because, maybe - that's part of what got us all from point A to point B on the evolutionary scale

it can happen to anybody - and I'll bet it does - more often than most people would be willing to admit

anyhow - my friend says "you're not important enough to kill"

what a comforting thought

here's something I think is very - I guess irritating - about this whole subject

people so concerned with being normal that they see abnormality everywhere

and if that weren't irritating enough - people judging each other based on how normal they are - or aren't

and then - people feeling that they're even qualified to determine how abnormal anybody is - I imagine using themselves as the scale by which all others shall be judged

this one article (there are probably others - or there will be others) hits a nerve - because no one wants t be considered not normal

not even by association

here we are, at ATS, happily minding our own business and discussing how many bigfoots can fit in a UFO - when someone writes a really lame article casting aspersions - yes, I said it - aspersions - on the good name of this site - and all sites considered to be "out there"

we should quit worrying about how weird we are

pointing fingers at others to prove that there are, truly, some REAL oddities amongst us - but, we must be OK, right? - because we can recognize who is really out there - and who is not...

and worry instead about why the article

not if it's valid - but, why is it at all?

we're weird, we're here - get used to it

so, why the article?

Have you read this thread?

It's not about whether they have imminent plans to shut down the internet.

It's not about whether conspiracy sites make mental illness worse.

It is about whether this article is part of a movement towards discrediting the conspiracy theory community.

It is about whether this is a step toward trying to portray conspiracy theorists not as harmless goofs, but as dangerous amoral manipulators.

This one article may not change anything. Or it may.

But talking about whether MSM has an interest in reshaping the public perception of conspiracy theorists is very reasonable, and not in the least delusional.

This is about spin control, image manipulation, advertising.

I think it doesn't matter for this thread, because it is off topic.

Truth?

I think it has probably happened.

I know that the ABC piece provides no evidence for that hypothesis.

Whether or not it's true, that piece gave a very biased image of online conspiracy sites, from the title, through their choices of "experts", to the way the sentences are put together.

It is written by a darn good journalist to leave the impression that there are a whole bunch of delusional folk out there in there homes being taken advantage of by people like David Icke, and that that is what the online conspiracy consists of.

Why isn't ATS mentioned in the article, for example? It's a far far bigger site than the "mob surveillance" one that they use.
