Poll: 37% of Americans Unable to Locate America on Map of America

www.huffingtonpost.com

According to a Gallup/Harris poll released Monday, a full 37 percent of American citizens are incapable of identifying their home country on a map of the United States.

Of the 1,400 residents surveyed, the most common incorrect responses placed the more than 230-year-old territory in the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans (19 percent), the space where Mexico would appear were it in fact included on the map (10 percent), and inside the word "America" written just above the northernmost states (6 percent).

Sad sad

Are you sure that this poll is 100% accurate

it just seems very unlikely to me that it can be true

How could this possibly be true?

This says more about where they did the polling than the majority of Americans. 1400 residents isn't enough to represent "Americans" in my opinion.

Oh gawd...! Is this true?? It can't be true, it can't be true!

The second Dark Ages, here we come.

Actually this doesn't surprise me. Has anyone watched late night television, where the host goes out on the street and asks REALLY easy questions? You know, questions like, Who's the Vice President? Or what year did the war of 1812 start ? And they absolutely, have no clue.
Shameful

Even with the numerous videos documenting American ignorance, I'm still having a hard time believing this poll.

Seems to me that MSM is causing mental issues in the public domain , not sites like ATS .
I wonder if these same people would have been able to answer some trivial sports teem question or pop T.V show question ? Its a pretty sad state of affairs , but hey thats the desired effect that those controlling the MSM are going for right ?

we are dumb!!! hahaha seriously though why don't they show the intelligent answers in the above video?

i have confidence that the study in the op was a total joke.

After the story came out about "Sarah Palin can't name the three countries in North America", I asked my mother. She said America, Mexico, and Greenland.

She is a 2nd grade teacher.

I believe this poll

What the heck is going on in our schools? The more money we pour into the educational system, the dumber the graduates get each year. And the teachers, who have to bear some responsibility for this, are ceaselessly whining for another pay raise (when they don't even work half a year,,, do the math).

The teacher mentioned on this thread who can't even name the three countries in N. America is a prime example. I took a Spanish course at night with a teacher working on her Master's degree who didn't know who Fidel Castro was... her Master's degree.

If the teachers are stupid, there's not much chance the students will turn out much better.

Yup and the scary thing is some of these people VOTE and we wonder why our country is in shambles. Im sorry If you cant label America on a map of the Western Hemisphere let alone a map of America you should NOT be allowed to vote period.
