Alright, it's time to get a new firearm... But I gotta ask the people who know best... ATS (of course).

First off, I'm lookng at a "house protection piece" . Was thinking about the Uzi 9mm, but don't know enough about it and don't know anyone who has one... Any input?

And I'm also looking for info on the Glock 44 or 45.

Any and all infomation would be helpful. Please, serious discussion only. I don't want to hear that the Terminator wanted the Uzi... Though I'd love to have the pulse rifle!

Also, feel free to list the top 3 weapon for any usage.

For home defense, have you considered a 12guage pump?

Good ones are as reliable as can be. A wide assortment of loads avail from birdshot to mag slugs and buck shot. Will stop anyone with the right load. Don't have to as accurate as with a pistol / rifle / sub. Buying one doesn't have to break the bank.

Also, the sound of a shell being chambered in one and the effect of having the business end pointed at you... it has been reported that alone has been enough to send bad guys running at times without even pulling the trigger.

I know both Remmington and Mossberg make good versions.

If you want to stay in 9mm, look closely at the Springfield XD. Well made, great safety features and easy to use and maintain. Just point and shoot. Intuitive grip position/angle. Equip it with Heinie Straight Eight sights and you are ready to go. Plus the hi cap mags hold 16 rounds. Thats alot of lead.

I have well over 1500 range rounds through mine and I love it. I am contemplating some aftermarket tweaks to the recoil spring set up. Very easy to do.

Also, Ruger Range Rifle has been popular since the A-Team, but is it's popularity and high price worth it? Or is there another weapon better suitable and better priced?

Home defense? I have to go with a .410 shotgun filled with 00 buck. It is big enough to knock down anything assaulting your home, but not too much of a worry for going through walls if you miss. Depending on the type you get, you can pick up a single shot for around $100 at walmart. If it is ever needed and used the prosecution will not be able to attack you for sitting around with an AK or assault type weapon just waiting for someone to break in. Yes I did say prosecution, do we even have the right to defend our homes anymore?

I agree with the above poster. If you are strictly talking in the home protection I would go with a pump shotgun loaded with buckshot. If you can handle a 12 gauge that would be the one to go with. If you can't then go with the largest calibre you can handle. If you know somone that has a twelve gauge see if they will let you try it. Go with as powerful gun as you can handle well.

The Springfield XD is made in Croatia.

Point? Don't support the weapon firms of foreign countries! There is no point to a 2nd Amendment if all the US gun makers go broke and gunsmiths disappear. Have a little pride in what you shoot and try to buy American whenever possible.

What I have on the wall is a rabbit eared coach gun.

Personally, I have a Ruger Red Label over/under 12 gauge and a S&W .357 magnum.

When it comes to home protection I would not recommend any kind of assault rifle or SMG. There is one and only one exception to my no SMG rule and it is the HKMP5. But, for the price of an assault rifle or SMG you could easily buy several firearms that can do the job just fine.

uzi / med caliber semis expensive and most people arn't train to useand after fist bullet most ruond would be 15 feet over there head. best home defrense 20 gauge with #4 or buck shot for women, 12 gauge with buck for guys. if in urban center lever action in pistol caliber with matching 6 inch pistol best for what most people would face.

Home defense? bang for buck?....Mossburg 500 series with a pistol grip in 12 gauge use alternating load in the tube ie: buck slug buck slug ect ect that way you are most sure to hit what you are aiming for with the takedown power you need all for less then $300 good luck in your search

Choosing a weapon for home defense has so many varyibles and you have to choose one that fits your specific needs example would be does one: live in an apartment? neighbor's up down left right? House: how close is the neighbor(s) childeren's rooms? preplanned lines of fire in the event of any or all of these( deffinatly countless others but just wanted to throw them out there)
Edit to add.

Buck and slugs are not good loads for home defense inside the house. Both can go through multiple walls and hit unintended targets, for which you will be responsible. At ranges found inside a house, 20-30 feet, any size shot will be tight and essentially a "loose slug." Smaller shot, #'s 4, 6, or 7.5 will be highly effective on unarmored personnel and will not penetrate both sides of an interior wall. Buck and slugs will penetrate interior walls and modern, non-brick exterior walls, endangering your family and neighbors. Buckshot will generally pattern on a man-sized target out to about 50 yards or so; slugs are better beyond that distance. One common tactic is to load the magazine so the first few shots are #4 and the last two are buck. Keep the mag full and the chamber empty, safety taped 'off' so a quick pump will get you ready. When you leave the house, unload and hide the ammo or you may find yourself facing your own loaded gun. If you have children, rethink this whole issue because they are more likely to be injured by your weapon than someone else's.

DO NOT put a pistol grip on your HD shotgun, it will make your weapon alot more compact but you will loose all the support a stock offers!

#4 shot is the minimum for HD purposes, 0 and 00 loads are preferred, frangible shot may be something to look into.
