Playboy sorry for nude 'Virgin Mary'

A NUDE model resembling the Virgin Mary on the cover of the Mexican edition of Playboy magazine, published only days before a major Mexican festival dedicated to the mother of Jesus, has prompted the company's US headquarters to apologize.

They obviously knew what they were doing... so what's up with the apology? A PR backpedaling marketing move? It's edgy, what not to like? If anyone bothered to read the articles they'd have way more to be upset about. This is one very progressive zine, and i'm not talking about the photoshoped girly pics. As for Mary's pictorial, what better way to honor a virgin mother (fantasy) then in Playboy (a fantasy zine)?

She be a virgin no more. Many a young boy will now lose his solo virginity to an image of the virgin mary. Good job playboy.

Its a woman wrapped up in a sheet - if this offends someone, then their religion must be pretty weak.

Mother mary can take care of herself - and I dont think she holds a copyright for having a sheet wrapped around her.

I don't see a problem here - it's only a magazine with some pictures, photoshopped or not, of beautiful models. Big deal. How can the human body be so offensive? In this form?

Im thinking about buying that addition now. Shes hot. Oh or was that what they wanted? You know they stir up this stuff guys they did this with Jessica Alba when she wasnt even in the mag that issue.

Well I'm Roman Catholic and I find that very distasteful and demand an apology too.

At least they only offended catholics... all they'll get is angry letters. If it was a woman dressed as a muslim, you know there would be hell to pay... magazine shops burned to the ground, etc.

LOL... not all of us are as guilt ridden as you seem to think I for one seldom feel much in the way of guilt. Then again, some would say I'm not much of a Catholic

As for the magazine... I'd say this was a calculated move on their part to boost sales. You can't do business in Latin America without being aware of how very Catholic much of it is. It'd be my guess that portraying Mary in a sexual manner was done knowing full well that there would be blow back... but that the publicity generated by the controversy would make it worth it.. and apologies would then be proffered to try and smooth things over. A calculated risk of sorts to increase sales.
That's just my opinion of course, but it seems more logical to me than that it was just a bad decision that sort of fell through the cracks. Sorry but I don't buy that for a minute.

I made google my friend just now and searched the model's name which appears on the cover, so that I could see this spread and thus determine the offensive nature of the material...

Needless to say, the only offensive thing about the spread, in mho, is that the cover is completely misleading! She's not nearly as sweltering as her cover shot makes her appear to be...
