Guys and gals,
I've tried to find this version of the MiG-21, but can't. I was wondering if anyone has any info? I'll bet this version of the Mig-21 was a
smokin hot turning and burning machine.
Not exactly sure, but is sure is pretty sweet looking.
Since it appears flying escort with a Tu-144, perhaps it is a tech demonstrator, modified by TsAGI or some other similar organization, designed to
test new aerodynamics associated with the Tu-144?
NEW: Actually, I just discovered that this is the MiG-21 I or "Analog" model. A cool Youtube video can be found
here.
It tells you on the picture what it is. The MiG 21I Analogue was the test bed aircraft for the wing shape of the Tu-144, similarly to the BAC 221 was
with Concorde. It looks extremely cool, but it was not designed for agility, just to test the wing for an airliner.
Exactly what waynos said. It was used to test the viability of the wing design for the Tu-144, albeit on a smaller scale. Neat-looking thing, but
probably not able to stand up to combat.
