I must admit that I didn't even consider the likelihood of that - even after someone questioned it on the first page of this thread. Not enough to actually reexamine the pics anyway.

I think the thing that truly gave it away was the picture of the little kid gleefully walking around like a little kid might. I don't think he'd have been so gleeful if he just passed be red words saying "FnK" if you know what I mean.

I dont know...I just looked at them again. I have a fairly extensive digital photography background and i think that this would be very difficult to photoshop and have come out right. If they did, they are really good. Does anyone know who were those pics submitted by?

Hmmm...does it make sense that a little kid would be walking around aimlessly past a monument filled with curse words? As a parent myself, the second I saw that stuff my kids would be back in the car.

Does it make sense that there is no visible reaction from any person in any of the images?

Did you note that if you follow the perspective in the lettering that it doesn't match? Yes, the people who hoaxed the pictures tried to get it right, but it is still clearly off.

Try this, when you look at the pictures try to ignore the stones, background, everything but the writing itself. Does it look like something someone spraypainted with an actual spray can, or sprayed with a mouse in photoshop?

More the the point, let's get down to basics.

This story broke on December 11th. Today it is December 13th, two days later.

In that time NOT A SINGLE NEWS STORY HAS BEEN POSTED ABOUT THIS! Not one! Zero. Nada, zilch.

Moreover, not a single person has confirmed this story with additional photographs and video. Instead, what you find is the same, exact, identical set of photoshoped photographs posted over and over again thousands of times on the Internet.

In two days time, did not a single resident in Georgia bother to confirm that, yeah, this story is true?

Hey, I may be wrong, but I have a very strong suspicion that I'm right. Earlier this summer I made a bold statement on my blog that the Bigfoot story was a hoax.

Guess what, I was right then, and I have strong suspicion I'm right this time.

Anybody on ATS live in Georgia and can simply freaking go by an check???

John

I use Photoshop every day. I would've noticed it right away, had it occurred to me. Like I said, even after reading arc de triumphe's post, which expressed suspicion about the whole 'event', it didn't even cross my mind that it may have been completely fake. I was just convinced that it was "false flag" shenanigans.

The spray-paint effect is very easy to do, especially with a tablet. I think they did an ok job on that but it still doesn't stand up under scrutiny.

The splotch effect is also easy to do, but if you zoom in on the engraved lettering, you'll see that it's far too dark for the lighting conditions in the pic. It sucks. I could've done a much better job.

Maybe tomorrow I'll post a sample.

I'll totally eat these words if more pics or some other coverage shows up, but I'd also be really surprised. I'm pretty convinced this is fake now. The silly spelling and confused politics are more consistent with 'satire' than 'rage'.

I hate hoaxes, and I hate falling for them even more, but this is freakin' funny.

Last night I made a provocative post suggesting that people should vandalize the infamous 'Georgia Guidestones'. I was trying to make a subtle point, but I don't think I got that message entirely across.

First of all, let me make clear that there is no evidence yet that the Georgia Guidestones have been vandalized. To date, we only have evidence that *photographs* of the Georgia Guidestones have been photoshopped. If anyone lives in and around the area of the Georgia Guidestones I would appreciate learning the fact of the matter.

So, to be clear, here are my concerns with the Georgia Guidestones. If these markers were placed by the Catholic Church, Scientology, or the League of Women voters, I wouldn't have such a problem with them. My biggest beef is that they were created anonymously by a secret organization. There is no spokesperson or representative to explain these stones and their message. No one who is willing to defend them. In fact, there is literally no *owner* of these stones.

I find the fact that no person responsible for these stones is willing to defend them, their message, or accept responsibility for them, to be an act of cowardice and more than a little bit despicable.

Now, why would I react so strongly? Because the very first 'commandment' implies that the number one goal of this organization is to see over five billion people die.

There are all kinds of implications inherent in this first commandment.

Now, if there were currently today just 400 million people on planet earth, and the commandment stayed the same then, no, I would not be nearly as concerned. However, there are currently over six billion people on the planet Earth and for the first commandment to be honored would require that five and half billion people die.

Now, just how is that supposed to happen? Moreover, caps and limits on population growth have a rather nasty reputation in human history. Who decides the cap in population? How is it governed and policed? Do we practice eugenics? Do we abort pregnancies once past the legal limit? It's all well and good to say the population of the planet should be lower but you have to consider the practical implications of how this would be accomplished.

Just how did the authors of this manifesto expect this population cap to be achieved?

(1) Are they eschatologists? Do they believe in apocryphal events? Do they foresee some future cataclysmic event which will wipe out the majority of the population of the planet so that these 'guidestones' remain for the Max Max survivors to live their lives by?

Curious people want to know. Let's ask the folks who built these stones? Oh, wait, we can't....

(2) Do the people who built the guidestones intend to accomplish their goal of decimating the population of the planet through acts of terrorism? Are they concocting a biological weapon of some sort to achieve their aims and goals? Does that sound a bit too paranoid and conspiratorial a thought? No less conspiratorial than the secret and hidden authors of these threatening messages.

(3) Is the number one commandment just a mild suggestion? Maybe they simply hope that, say in a couple of centuries from now, we gradually reduce the population to this goal through common sense and reason? Yeah, I'm sure that's it....

The arrogance of those who built these monuments is awe inspiring. The very first commandment is an implied threat against the vast majority of the population of the planet. They have a hidden agenda and I believe we have every reason to be suspicious of this group which uses occult references in their work.

If these cowardly individuals refuse to take responsibility for their proclamations by explaining their message and agenda then, yes, I honestly believe we have every right to vandalize these stones. These stones which contain an implied threat against humanity deserve a response.

Now, so far I have only discussed commandment number one. Let's take the rest one at a time and see just how 'reasonable' these indivudals who proclaim themselves as stewards of a new 'age of reason' are.

>>2. Guide reproduction wisely - improving fitness and diversity.

And, Greg, you don't see a problem with this one? Let's think of the last time we tried to guide reproduction wisely, improving fitness and diversity? Eugenics, last time we tried, didn't work out so well...

Would you agree with the authors of these Guidestones that children with downs syndrome are unfit and should be destroyed? What about blacks? Jews? Who is fit and diverse in this one world government of eugenics and population control?

>>3. Unite humanity with a living new language.

The commandment is really disturbing. First of all, it reinforces the notion that the commandments are for some post-apocalyptic population; as how else could such a thing be accomplished? Moreover, who would want it!?? The cultural diversity of our languages capture the richness and history of the evolution of human civilization for the past several thousand years. Who would want to lose French, Spanish, and all of the other languages of the world? What a travesty and tragedy this would be.

I find this commandment anything but 'reasonable' and almost as disturbing as the first.

>>4. Rule passion - faith - tradition - and all things with tempered reason.

I take no great issue with this commandment.

>>5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.

I don't take issue with this one either.

>>6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.

Now we get to the whole New World Order one World Government concerns. Look, if you want to keep the NWO conspiracy nuts in check, I might suggest you stop putting up granite stones anonymously by occult organizations that promote exactly such a scheme.

>>7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.

No argument here.

>>8. Balance personal rights with social duties.

Sounds reasonable.

>>9. Prize truth - beauty - love - seeking harmony with the infinite.

Seems like a reasonably new-agey sort of wish.

>>10. Be not a cancer on the earth - Leave room for nature - Leave room for nature.

Again, no problem here either.

So, while six of the ten commandments seem quite rational, reasonable, and morally defensible, the remaining four are deeply disturbing.

If the jack-asses who put out these threatening messages are so cowardly they refuse to defend them, or even accept ownership, then I feel it is perfectly reasonable for the rest of us five and a half billion, those of us who might not necessarily be considered fit or diverse enough, to respond with our own message in return.

You guys are so ridiculous as usual thinking that this is fake. It's not that hard for some young teenagers to get some red spray paint and go tag up some big blocks of stone.

Same way everyone assumes the Area 51 Alien Interview is a fake, saying that it's a puppet without having any proof of that whatsoever.

Also, this board must be filled with some lazy-ass people, because if I lived in Georgia, I would have already driven out to the Guidestones to see if the vandalism was real or not. Surely there must be at least a few people from this forum who live in Georgia.

Ok, I hate it when I flip back and forth like this - but you convinced me to take yet another, closer look.

Now I think the spray paint in the last two pics looks real - in the rest, the color saturation looked too uniform to me, but in these two it's faded. I think if someone were going to fake this, they would have done so a little on all of the pics, not just two.

The 'splotch' looked fake to me first, and I'll cover the reason why momentarily. Upon closer inspection though, I believe it's real too. If you follow the streams, you can see that the engraved letters act as a 'canal' for whatever that substance is, redirecting the flow. Of course this can be faked too, but would take a lot of skill. Not impossible to do, but if this is fake, it's extremely thorough.

NOW... I still think that the darkened parts of the lettering under the splotch look too dark for the lighting conditions in the photo. They look like the shadow/midtone levels have been brought up. I do this in my work to make thinks more legible.

Example:

...And of course this proves nothing as far as whether it's real or not.

A side-by-side comparison of the shots where the same graffiti can be seen from different angles shows consistency. Again, not impossible to accomplish but in my opinion, people who perpetuate hoaxes usually slip up in areas like this.

SO... If this is a Photoshop job, it's a lot better than I had originally stated.

All that being said, there is still something stinky about this whole thing. I don't think that honest anger and frustration were the motivation behind this act. Plus, there are no other sources for this "news" besides AJ, who has been fooled before.

For the record, I am not a 'hoax-screamer'. I am a truth seeker, with 'believer' leanings about a great deal of the subjects discussed here at ATS. But I am no dupe either. I came to a hasty conclusion and I have no trouble admitting that, or any other time I'm wrong.

I'm prepared to eat any of these words if I'm presented with further evidence. My official current point of view on this is with a tilted head and slightly narrowed eyes.

Seems like this is getting a little bit silly. Tomorrow, or on Monday, I will call the local police in the area and simply ask them. This should be simple enough to resolve.

Aha! Must be all the eggnog and whatsis why it's taken us ATS uber-sleuths to come up with this idea. Sure someone suggested having a local drive out to look, but I wouldn't fault anyone for not wanting to (eggnog/whatsis/etc). Also, there's a high probability that any sign of such 'vandalism' would be eradicated pretty quickly.

Of course, if the cops tell you "no", our tin-foil hats will tell us that they are part of the cover-up that the msm is also participating in by not reporting this. Which is also not entirely impossible.

Jrat, you and others here are over reacting. Really there is nothing to get so hysterical about. Why exactly must you read genocide into the 1st commandment? Noting implies population reduction. There is no time line stated. The stones have been there for 26 years. Have you seen any attempt to kill people off?

As to eugenics - last time we tried that it didn’t go on long enough or go far enough. There should be a mass campaign of sterilizing people. All those with heritable defects, all those who cannot afford to raise their kids - the perpetual welfare generation who refuse to work. That is how to reduce the population. Killing 5 billion people just is not feasible, so relax, no one is coming after you.
Get real. What would it be like with 5 billion bodies lying around?

The language thing…..haven’t you noticed that English is the coming language. Almost everyone in Europe speaks English. It is also the language of commerce, and all people in that area also must learn English. So what’s your problem with this?
It will be a very long time before anyone will be giving up their native language.
You won’t be here to see it, so why does it upset you?

#6 Let all nations rule internally.
Doesn’t seem threatening to me. What does this mean to you?
Currently we are and have been attempting to resolve external disputes with war.
Is war the preferred route for you?

I fail to see how you interpret anything about them as “threatening”. The “threat” was conjured up in your own mind.

Why wait till Monday to call the Elberton police to verify the truth of the matter?
I’m sure the police must be on duty 24/7 like anywhere else.

The real conspiracy here is that most people have been tricked into thinking these stones represent some sort of Evil NWO Agenda. I see nothing engraved on this monument that supports this. It is clear to me that a bunch of bored children simply defaced public property. Please, PLEASE, use some critical thinking. As someone else said, research Thomas Paine for yourself and use your own judgment. This thread saddens me. I fear the 'Truth Movement" has been defeated.

it never ceases to amaze me that a simple block of stone with a quite harmless inscription generates such levels of hysteria and fear in people

get a dammed grip

its just a stone - it cannot hurt you

as for the people condoning , advocating or encoraging further vandalism and criminal damage - i pity you , its just a stone get over it

These stones are nwo agenda, and the 500,000 quoted is known to be the goal of what they intend to leave alive on this planet, well known to be a desired goal of Rockefeller, and various cabal, from their own lips. We don't need this crap on our planet. Its time to blow the lid on all of this for everyone so they can decide if this mysterious message should be inspirational to their surviving grand children and descendants or not. Theres nothing innocuous about this evil.

I just wish they would have used Semtex and left the appropriate "warnings" to the enemy. Although the professionalism of any movement that uses such amateurish means of protest is questionable, I agree with the sentiment and the message.

[edit on 11-12-2008 by shai hulud]

Enemy? Okay, now I know where I stand. If I had the funds, I'd pay to have it cleaned up. The eighteenth-nineteenth century "libertarian" way of life is coming to an end, and as always, there will be a great deal of lashing-out and no doubt some bloodshed. Georgia, despite its geographical location, is no long a majority 'Southern" state. Change will come here more rapidly than in Mississippi or South Carolina. In a generation, Georgia's population will look more like Vermont than the "Old South".

Hmm, for some reason I thought these things dated back to the colonial days. I remember reading up on them several years ago, and it must've been the Thomas Paine references that made me think so. That and the fact that the world population was considerably closer to (if not almost twice) 500M at that time.

That they came about in 1979 is much more sinister. The population was roughly 4.4 billion at the time, so these things have been an offensive blight since their inception.

Plus, their message is a bit contradictory. I'm not sure I can articulate this well, but I think if society was built around a 'harmony with nature', the planet could sustain an even greater population. Instead, everyone is conditioned to think they need to live by the beach, or right between the Walmart and Circle K. People living in Phoenix, Arizona must maintain a green lawn and swimming pool. And it's not just the west, or McDonalds that perpetrates this. I'll catch hell for this example, but the people in India don't live in accordance with nature either, choosing to starve rather than have a burger.
