It's not just enough to diagnose the ATS crowd by reading. The posts are just conspiracy-inspired blah-blah scribble that is not taken seriously off the web in the majority of cases. In true clinical paranoia, the folks who suffer from this mental illness often take "preventive measures" depending on the dominant character that manifests itself in their minds. In other words, these people are often perceived as acting weird by friends, acquaintances, etc.

It's not good to mention this mental illness the way you did, meaning a text sorrounded by a dark grey color. That can trigger the mechanism that causes paranoia. If you think that you can get me that way, then you think wrong. I've been watching you for a long time, and I'm well prepared for you and your evil friends who want to destroy our mind so they could rule the earth with no opposition.

Yeah sure there are a few delusional people here on ATS but it isn't really because of the subject matter IMHO like UFOs/aliens, 9/11 , NWO and stuff like that.

It is because they are inherently psychotic be it genetically or self induced by some drugs that they abuse
which can cause such illnesses in the long term.

I also think that there's a difference between good ol' healthy paranoia which kinda keeps you sharp and focused, AND extreme paranoia that can very well be dangerous to someone's own physical well being as well any family members or friends.

But nevertheless, it was kind of you to address this issue OP.

lollerskates, would a paranoid person know they are paranoid though? even if they read this, they'd probably be in denial !

If they have multiple characters in their heads, thats not clinical paranoia. But I get the jist of what you're stating.

I amended the OP to remove the 50-80% figure I pulled out my ass. It does seem like the most popular threads are the weirdest most out there cases.

You registered in 2006 and have 70 posts. What's the deal with you? Have you just been lurking and analyzing us all this time? I would say your actions are very suspect.

Are you a government spy? Oh wait, maybe you-are an alien.
Just why are you here?

Do you not understand how hard it is to balance paranoia, delusions of grandeur and various other illnesses all the while keeping up the appearance of sanity?

The sane man cries out, " Oh my God I am truly insane". while the insane calmly proclaims , " I am the only sane among you."

I am very happy with my state of mind. Leave me alone to stew in my psychosis.

Just remember, it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you ;-)

ooooorrrrrrr, it could just be we come here to talk about the things we can't really say in real life. I'm no conspiracy theorist (I WANT to believe!) but sometimes it's FUN drawing conspiratorial conclusions.

quick response for a quick read

yea i agree, theres some nut jobs on here

and yea alot of things on here may be figments of imagination and just a bunch of crazies talking out of their ass but there is also a great deal of factual/scientific information and incredible breakthrough ideas and creativity among the members of this board

a type of metaphor even though its not a true metaphor is to look at great minds like einstein and many other incredibly intelligent respected individuals,

they may be a little crazy, but they have a abundance of use and meaning to this world

without "crazy" people here and all the great work by ats members, i couldnt begin to imagine how much would be overlooked and never known

so as dangerous as it may be to use this type of thinking and living that way of life, i thank all the crazies on this board and all the incredible intellects as well

The trouble with your premise is that many factors are responsible for those feelings and it can't be all chalked down to a mental illness or paranoia.

One is actually having seen or even experienced the abuse by those in charge.

Two is religious indoctrination, such as did you know that of the approximately 2 billion avowed Christians in the world, at least 1/2 of them think we are living in the literal last days as prophesied in the New Testament.

Three, with all of the terrible news of late and current world condition it is wise to be a little paranoid so one can prepare just in case.

Those that are without some form of suspicion/concern/paranoia or whatever you want to call it, and who live as if there is nothing wrong and everything will be fine are wearing rose colored glasses and I question their sanity.

Well a good healthy dose of Paranoia is healthy when you have evidence that you are not being to told the truth - the whole true and nothing but the truth and when the entity that gurantees this is clearly at fault... well if you are not Paranoid something is wrong with you.

Well, even though I do believe in (NOT until seeing though) UFO's etc, I have seen some pretty far fetched theories people have made up about them etc.....

As for the government watching people.....I have never really bought into that one. I agree they suck and aren't out for our best interests, but don't think they are watching anyone.....

As for the TOPIC content, well, to be quite honest all of the EXACT same topics seem to be on every board on the net practically, no matter what the boards main theme is supposed to be.......most of these topics are the opposite of secret, they are the hottest topics on the net......so the whole world is in a bit of a paranoia mode right now.......you'd have to be crazy NOT to be a little paranoid now with the state of our current affairs on this planet!

Presidents, Senators, Corporate Heads, heads of state... once a year they all gather together in the woods in California (Bohemian Grove) to stand around a 40 foot tall stone Babylonian Owl God named Molech and chant while they burn fake children in it, and we're the nut jobs?

I signed in 2006 when my work load was less hectic, then realised the board is pretty whacked out and went elsewhere. Now I have some ideas of my own to share and came back to the board.

Hi there... I'm going to 100% disagree with you OP. These people have a RIGHT TO BE PARANOID. You may need to analyze your beliefs.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

The CIA has been involved in all wars since they probably were created. The CIA has secret prison camps and until recently that was thought to be of paranoia.

George W Bush is bullying Congress into dong whatever he wants even when he is a lame duck President. People have a right to be paranoid about what he is going to do next.

The neoconservatives of the Government have always been pushing for American dominance over other nations. They believe it is our right to rule the world.

Our Government has done some really scary things in the past... like for instance they've let their data-mining program be completely legal in the name of "security". Because they say that their data-mining program is for national security reasons no one can challenge it under a violation of our privacy.

The people in top at the Government lied to get us into the Iraq War. Saddam Hussein had no WMD programs in place. There was no concrete evidence for them.

The Government is responsible for displacing Democracies and replacing them with dictators who agree with us...

Our Government has worked on mind control experiments like MK Ultra in the past...

Their analysis of the JFK assassination was shoddy at best... there are a lot of weird facts about the analysis.

Aliens probably do exist. If you think that aliens don't exist you are egocentric... as... we probably come from outer space as well.

I completely disagree with you OP, so, I DO think people have a right to be paranoid.

I get paranoid too... that doesn't mean I go and act on it in real life and tell people the end is nigh.

WAKE UP OP! Seriously, stop thinking within the system. The Government doesn't want you to think there is a conspiracy. Conspiracies are part of common politics. A conspiracy is an agreement between two people to commit a crime, hence, therefore, conspiracies happen a lot, more so than you think.

I think it's healthy to be paranoid. I think those who aren't paranoid have a mental illness.

I believe every phone call and email is recorded and stored in a dbase, not just for me but everyone in this country and probably some others as well.
Thats just one of my conspiracy beliefs that I have and not necessarily the most dramatic one.
If that makes me paranoid, then so be it. After all, I dont have Paranoid One typed under my avatar for my "mood" for nothing

However, im not near as bas as I used to be, back in the 99-01 time period, I did a little hacking/website cracking, just for kicks and nothing major or important.
Everytime I left my apartment, I would bring my hard drive with me and always on the look out for the infamous Black SUV's

After 9/11, hacking became a more serious offense and I stopped doing it, when I stopped doing it, the paranoia went away, go figure.

I get what youre saying though, the post that you claim gave you the idea for this thread is a little out there but if I could offer you a little advice, Id tell you to take some of the things you read here with a grain of salt.
In my opinion, a lot of people that make threads like that, do so for the attention, not necessarily out of paranoia.

In the eyes of some others, all of us conspiracy theorists are paranoid nut cases because we have open minds and believe in things that society and in some cases, the Government, tell us not to believe in.

LOL

but on a serious note, GREAT point

i dont mean for my post to be frivolous or a one liner but id like to just shed more light on this statement by twitchy because its very dead on

yea there may be some craziness here but, theres definitely cause for it

i mean what he just said is just ONE of the crazy things we KNOW is true

so even though some other parts may be paranoia, im glad someones paranoid or who knows what the hell would really be going on

on a end note im surprised there isnt more attention to this thread
