Hi, I just want to make everyone to be awar that many threads on here talk about these web bots/ predictions... which one is due coming soon... dec 12... a 8.3 earthquake will hit cali, and many other areas...

I just want people to be awhere and keep an eye out... so when on dec 12th nothing happens then me and the rest on ATS that are programmers would have a good lol...

cuz we keep replying to those threads to explain how a spiderbot/web bot works...

So we will see... keep an eye out on the news.. since this will happen Friday... so make sure you have time to read the news or come on here to see what happens...

I already can tell you... I think nothing will happen. I am a progammer and know how those spiderbos work.... and I don't think it can predict stuff better then us.

I have been hearing alot about a large earthquake in the time period between Dec 10 - 15th. I have also heard that it would be a major quake in the 8.0+ range of the New Madrid fault in the midwest. I guess once again we wait and see what happens.........one of these days the prediction is going to be right on and we are going be hurting big time.
Hope this one is another false alarm......but always a good idea to be prepared.

To the OP:

1. If the prediction DOES come true will you eat your own feet then post pictures of it here on ATS please?

2. WAY too many .....................'s in your post.

lol, no ... . if we do get a earthquake it wont' be because the spider bot was right it was because the scientist who say we are due for one... they were right... They are just going by the last big earthqake that happened in cali.

They look at that timeline and then study it.. after all that studying they think we are due for another one in late 2008. I don't know how true it is.

As I am a programmer... All I can say that the spider bot is no magic ball.. it has inputs and out puts... we gvie the inputs and that bot gives outputs of staticial math processing the infomation.

so it finds the odds of such a event and then if the odds are high enough it spits out a date and time and the event ect.

that is all.

Please tell these people that you're not from an english speaking nation so as to not incur the wrath of grammar nazi's.

I agree with you that the web/spider bots aren't fortune tellers. They do, however, have a very eerie coincidence about them. As webbot supposedly predicted the Chinese earthquake and the last large tsunami.

Being a programmer has very little to do with webbot, you may have some understanding of how it performs its sweep, how it contains its data, and how it sifts said data.... Yet I doubt you have much of a grasp of the quantum implications and theory behind the actual working of predictive linguistics.
IMO someone who understands would not focus on the technical aspects of said "time machine".

Remember genius is 1 percent inspiration, 99 perspiration. The perspiration of webbot is exactly what you're implying you understand. Understanding 99 percent of webbot is way more than the average ATS user can say though. Good on you.

Peace

Mate, I know about programming, I have worked in the field myself yet I am not so close-minded as to think that something designed to predict stock-market movements could not become more intelligent and sift out unconscious thought patterns from consciously written pieces.

In addition, if an earthquake happens it will only serve to prove the viability of such a prediction device/bot as being tried and tested. You say that the bot makes predictions based on what it gleans from postings and writings of people who mentioned a certain topic, yet what I see is completely the reverse: ie the bot is predicting it first before many people pick up on the idea and begin discussing it. This is proof that the bot has viability in predicting via some form of rudimentary artificial intelligence.

Kryties, I agree with most of what you said but I don't feel that the program became more intelligent. I'm assuming you were simplifying things for the sake of brevity, yet it does imply some aspect of learning/growing ability which I don't believe the webbot has programed into it.

I think the onus of their program relies heavily on how the datasets are interpreted. Thats why I think predictive linguistics can work yet you always face the quantum conundrum of the ego getting in the way of your interpretations.

Peace

Whether it's correct, incorrect, accurate in its interpolations or just completely whacked out peers of ours using this "bot" as a gimmick to show off their collective programming and logistical prowess, one thing's for sure:

It's interesting enough to make it to ATS.

Maybe that's saying something, maybe it's not, but there must be something there. Perhaps it's just another sophisticated form of entertainment meant to distract us from more pressing matters. Let's hope so, eh?

wow.... I did some research on that...

for the rest of you to lol at me... seriously.... if your a programmer you should understand what a web bot is.

if you don't know... if your a desktop programmer...you might not have experience with web bots or spider bots.

Google uses a spider bot or web bot... if this web bot can predict the future..Then so can Google in theory.

this link is to the history channel program which explains in detail what it does.

they leave out what math they use... I know they use stats. which is looking at the higher oddds.

for the programmers in here.... the internet is the input... for the web bot. .. this aint no super computer that has complex math equations that input is only data....

the input is what you post on the internet. It then goes searching for strings... strings are a programmers word for texts... then this web bot counts how many times this word shows up on the web then based on how high the count is... it would be proccessed into Statistics man.

here is the link: www.youtube.com...

I am going to see what will happen. I will come on here tonight and
when I see nothing happen.

ok, here is the deal if... nothing happens... give me some rep.... and if something does happen... I will give you guys rep... the ones that replied here.

deal?

ps: I know how a web bot works and spider bots.... I have had projects making a couple for websites.

So people on here that tells me I don't know my area... or don't know programming and claim I am closed minded... your closed minded.

I am open minded.... I went out and tried to understand what they are doing which I found out.

they don't give out details all they told the public is that they made software a web bot to make predictions and explain it uses internet as a input.

they don't tell you what math they use.

I know it's states based on the job and work... and I could tell by what they explained.

I am still opened minded to such a earthquake... I head scientists in 2007 saying cali is due for one in late 2008 this I remeber.

I believe the scientist more then the web bot.

So this earthquake may happen or not. The scientist don't say it's dec 12th but said late 2008.

the webot says dec 12th.... well we will see.

I would say your closed minded if your making fun of me...and saying I dont' know my field enough to know what web bots do....

I also I done research on what you guys asked me too... those are physics and are not being used in the web bot project.

they seriously look at nothing but the odds of such events the programmer specifies how big the odd they want it in order for the web bot to make such a prediction.

it is like that middle school math class demonstration. where you record and flip a coin... heads and tails in theory we say there is a 50% chance of you coming up with tails and 50% coming up with heads.

now if you collect data of 6 tosses and you can figure out the odds of the next toss. which gives a better prediction or educated estimation.

this is what the web bot does but has very complex stat math equations to figure out the odds's of something going to happen.

hope this clarifies everything.

So, just so we are all clear on this. You are saying you are a computer programmer? Just asking. In case some of us slow folks on here didn't catch it the first 20 times you said it.

Grammar and spelling is not important to web programmers. This is what I have learned from this thread.

omg... wow,I cannot believe you, guys are still after me. Yes grammar is important. Only in the job market. You do not need to know grammar and spelling to program.
I hope you know we are on the internet. On the internet you type of how you talk. So like cool spelled as kool is accepted on the internet.

Now where is this earthquake???? if you think you know more about programming than I and think your an expert.Go ahead and keep attacking others.

if you really read the project.. and watch some of the videos. You then would agree with me.

I understand what your saying. That the web bot is first going hard core math/physics equations and making a prediction then trying to figure out the odds of it happening and then it because a prediction. If you see those videos of talk about what they are doing... you will know they are not using super computers to do this stuff. They are not using what nasa uses... those monster hardcore super computers to do such calculations what you guys are saying they are.

I know web bots.... anyone how has experienced web app development would know what a spider bot is.. .and yet Google uses it in there search engine.

Today I hear of no earthquake yet.

What time do you think it will occur????
