In an absolutely stunning new interview, President George W. Bush publicly said that the Bible is "probably not" literally true, that he prays to the same God that other major religions do and that he believes the scientific proof for evolution.

When asked if he believed that the Bible was literally true, President Bush responded this way:

"Probably not. No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it."

This interview will come as a disappointment to many evangelical Christians who rabidly supported Bush through two rocky terms as president.

The reality is that George W. Bush's religious beliefs are not compatible with evangelical Christianity:

Wow. This is the most respect I've ever had for Dubya. I thought he campaigned on being a fundamentalist? Maybe I imagined it...?

The creazy guy doesn't think the Consitution's "probably not" literally tue either... No suprise here. It would have been nice to know this BEFORE he spent 8 years in the White House!

I'm not sure why it matters at this point. Is Bush planning some kind of 'sweeping change' in the next few weeks?

P.S. I doubt it mattered 8 years ago. 'Evangelicals' are looking for support for the issues that matter most to them, not merely having a Christian in office. As I understand it, Obama is Christian and so is McCain.

Well, it may actually come out that the 'psychic' information was taken from bible codes. Maybe they misinterpreted it...again and didn't notice the other words: 'they will not find'

I think if there was a secret poll of many christians, they would probably say the same thing Bush did.

Maybe his book's title will be: 'Mission Accomplished'

I think he has grown old and wise in his final years in the White House. If the Bible was meant to be taken literally then it certainly has no modern day scientific backing.

It is becoming more and more apparent that Mr. Bush is not the man the media, his writers, and his "controllers" made him out to be.

Well he is finally showing his true colors. For that I can't give him credit, because he waited until he was just about out of office to say what most "enlightened" Christians knew all along...that dubya wasn't literally a bible believing Christian.

Yeah - there is now way he would have said this in 2004!
