All the money in the world is waiting for the next technological advance. In the past the entire world’s growth was spurred on by the industrial
revolution, and then the discovery of oil was responsible for the present-day boom. It is mostly agreed upon that the era we now occupy, is in its
decline, peak oil has temporarily been put on hold by the reduction of Gas demand, this decline is caused by the reduction in spending power of the
average person. But we need something to sustain our accustomed level of advancement over time.
But a radical new source of energy or propulsion technology would most certainly make the inventor of such scientific, technical knowledge, the
wealthiest person on the planet. Advanced "off world" hardware has the possibility of being reverse engineered, and exploited for profit. If the
Government of a major Military power has ever acquired such assets, they would most certainly be exploited for weaponization and tactical purposes
first. Other considerations such as the advancement of mankind and/or science would be of secondary significance only.
But a private, (individual or Corporate), entities acquisition of extra terrestrial materials could in theory be transferred to the civilian sector.
Is it likely for this to happen? If the Universe is populated by many advanced life forms capable of interplanetary travel, the answer is, yes. If we
are alone, or interplanetary travel is impossible, then no.
