In rush-hour labor, ticket delivered(To Woman in Labor)

www.boston.com

Jennifer Davis was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Nov. 18, her contractions just 3 minutes apart. Her husband, John, was trying to appear calm for his wife's sake, driving in the breakdown lane of Route 2. They pulled up behind a state trooper to ask whether they could continue using the lane to reach the next exit, near Alewife Station.

Not only did the trooper say no, he gave them a $100 citation for driving in the breakdown lane...

...made them wait for their citation while he finished writing someone else's ticket, and even seemed to ask for proof of pregnancy, Jennifer Davis said.

"He said, 'What's under your jacket?' I said, 'My belly,' " Davis said. "He waited and gestured with his head like, 'OK, let's see it.' He waited for me to unzip my jacket. I mean, it was so clear that I was pregnant."

Protect and Serve? I guess that depends on your interpretation. Looks like the Police Dept. thinks this was alright as there was no repercussions for the officer at all, in fact the dept. seems to be supporting his decision.

While State Police spokesman David Procopio declined to comment on the merits of this stop, he noted that state law prohibits driving in breakdown lanes on Route 2.

"The trooper made a judgment call to enforce the law governing the use of the breakdown lane," said Procopio. "If the couple does choose to submit a letter of complaint, we'll review it in accordance with our procedure."

If you ask me this is just one more example of the police over stepping their intended roll and taking on the roll of the abusive power hungry freak.

Let's not kid ourselves here, there are guys like this. Plain and simple jerks who just want everyone to know that they have some power.

I wouldn't say this reflects on police as a whole though, or even the police in this area. This guy needs to be reprimanded in my opinion though.

Totally uncalled for.

You are so right, they love playing the "Nazi" part. When is the last time you seen "Protect and serve".

This is awful! He put the woman and baby in danger. He should be glad she had the baby and nothing really, really bad happened. I tried to find an email to write to, so I could give someone a piece of my mind, but I had no luck getting an "email." Here are the links I found.
Station H-5, SP Brighton

The "Contact Us" page (notice that there are few emails...but fax #s)
I can't fax...but wouldn't it be a good point to flood them with faxes?

Oh, and I forgot this one. The weblink to the Director of Media Communications:
Mr. David Procopio...the heartless guy who defended the trooper. But he has no email or fax....strange for the director of media communications, right? Me thinks they took them off the site. Linky
