Hi!

In your own opinions, what newspapers (Europe and International) and/or other news sources, do you feel is the most credible and impartial.

I don't think the majority are impartial, but there may be some more than others.

I feel I could trust...

  1. The New York Times
  2. Reuters
  3. Science Daily

I don't trust...

  1. Anything owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation (Anything Fox and Wall Street Journal)
  2. CNN

I'm not sure about...

  1. Washington Post

What are your opinions?

I trust the Guardian weekly the most. They seem to be straight shooters.

Stratfor is the most credible source I've ever ran across with. They're a subscription service but they give the most fair and balanced international news. They give me a lot of insight about what's going on. I love them.

Other than that... I'd recommend CNN. CNN seems to be pretty balanced.

Other than CNN I'd recommend checking out www.rawstory.com. They have their own writers and they have a lot of articles on their website from other websites much like the Drudge report. However, they're actually objective, unlike the Drudge report.

Everybody can be bought and every text on your computer can be altered(if someone wanted to), but if I were to pick up a newspaper at the store and hope to get half accurate content, I'd go with my local newspaper, remembering not to be so paranoid.

Good question.

The answer....if a news organization can follow these principles, then any outlet should be considered.

Citizens' Bill of Journalism Rights

1. Truthfulness
2. Proof that the journalists' first loyalty is to citizens
3. That journalists maintain independence from those they cover
4. That journalists will monitor power and give voice to the voiceless
5. A forum for public criticism and problem solving
6. News that is proportional and relevant

YOU have to be the judge whether the source is biased, otherwise my opinion of a "credible" news source inhibits your freedom to choose. I hope this helps.

With any reasonably objective definition of "bias", all media is biased.

The act of reporting is one of condensing information: choosing what is important and how to present that to the reader.

It's important to understand what these biases are. The idea of a "reliable" media source that tells you what you need to know, in a way that doesn't unduly influence you, is an illusion - if you try and 'settle', without constantly looking for the underlaying perspective, you will only be deceiving yourself.

That said, I agree with you about the New York Times. I've found it to be a fair balance between "left" and "right", in it's reporting. Of course, that balance still buys in to the paradigm of "political reality" in the USA, which I find false on many levels.

I don't understand the bias many Conservatives have against the NYTimes, calling it a "liberal rag" and such. Well, perhaps I do - it gives a credible venue for somewhat accurate reporting to be done, that can then be vilified as from an "unreliable source".

I said I didn't trust CNN, but to be honest I not sure about it. What are your views on the CNN network?
