Harper says Dion playing 'biggest political game in history'

www.cbc.ca

Prime Minister Stephen Harper accused the Liberals of playing the "biggest political game in history" during a heated question period in the House of Commons on Monday.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper responded to a barrage of questions and accusations from opposition members in the House of Commons on Monday. (Adrian Wyld/Canadian Press)His accusation came after Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion, fresh from being named the leader of a proposed coalition with the New Democrats, questioned the legitimacy of Harper's minority government.

I'm sure most of the readers at ATS are American. As a Canadian, I am quite eager to solicit opinions from the great knowledge base at ATS about this RADICAL turn of political events.

Many Canadians are absolutely shocked by this; some in a postive way, while others are viewing this as a behind the scenes political coup. Personally, I feel that if a coalition government were to form within the next week, then democratic representation has truly taken place. The reason I say this, is because of the fact that with the other three parties teaming together, then over sixty percent of the population has representation in the government, compared to under forty percent with the current minority government.

Either way, this is incredibly exciting to watch. It's not very often that Canadian politics drops an 'earthshaker' in the news like this. Therefore I am interested to see opinions. Is THIS constitutional democracy at work, or does THIS fly in the face of democracy?

Sadly I hadn't had a big interest in Canada's politics, even though I'm a Canadian. The U.S media has taken over most of the article columns in our paper. It's all about the focus on War, Recession, Global Warming, and other catastrophes. I hear about Bush 1000 times more than what Stephen Harper says.

Speaking as a Canadian - an expat, but a Canadian none the less - this is exactly why Canada is in the trouble it's in. The "biggest political game in history"?? Jesus wept.

This government is nowhere NEAR that important. Further, nothing that has ever happened on the hill in Canada could be accurately said to be "the biggest _______ in history".

The forming of a coalition government will not cause the foundations of the earth to tremble, because as long as it's not actually on fire or anything, no one really pays that much attention internationally to what's going on in Canada. It came as quite a shock to me, but it's true.

As far as the coalition government goes - it's perfectly legal, not without precedent, and probably the best thing that could happen to the country right now. Canada is not in a good place to weather the oncoming storm. A coalition government - especially a fragile one, will be forced to make decisions that will be agreed upon by all. Concession is the order of the day.

Personally, from what I have researched (as a CANADIAN) is that Harper is totally Illuminati.

This could be our only chance. But the payoffs come swiftly,,,.....

Well, Harper and Dion are bilderberg puppets... so that's why I didn't vote for neither of them. Harper is bad, really bad, but Dion is much worse with his anti-guns stance and pro-carbon tax that will kill our economy even more.

Ignatieff and Rae are also bilderberg puppets...

The canadian democracy is as non-existant as the american one.

I would like a real democracy in Canada... and a less centralized government.

We are a FEDERATION, so give power to the provinces, not to the central government.

Layton and Duceppe no because they were not considered a ``threat`` to the establishment.

Harper was at the 2003 conference and Dion at the 98 conference.

And of course Harper hosted the 2006 meeting in Ottawa. I've got 5 sources connected to Bilderberg and got arrested 2 times in Ottawa in 06 at their meeting. I know Bilderberg.

Both are sold.

Duceppe and Layton are just fools who don't know what the real thing is about and they are leftists, borderline communists. But at least Duceppe is pro-Quebec...
I'm from Quebec BTW.

Harper looks a little less sold to Bilderberg than Dion.

Dion is ``against the war``, but Harper is against banning guns... there's a few difference, but they are for the same thing.

Can you show me evidence that Harper hosted this meeting? If he was hosting it, wouldn't he have been an attendee? He's not on the list of '06 attendees.

2006 List of Attendees

The group meets every four years in Canada. Just because they met here, doesn't mean it was hosted by Harper.

The Bilderberg Group or Bilderberg conference is an unofficial annual invitation-only conference of around 130 guests, most of whom are persons of influence in the fields of business, media, and politics.

Source

Not that I like to use Wiki as a source, I am too lazy to search.

And so what if he attended in '03. It is an invitation only event. He went once, big deal. Heck, if I were invited I'd go to, just to see what it's all about!

No, i meant that he ``hosted`` it... with him being in power while they meet in Canada... if it would have been me PM, I would have arrested them and shot on the spot as terrorists.

Those people are conspiring behind the scene to control the political and economical world. They can't do that stuff in a ``democracy``.

They work like the communist party, they chose who gets elected, what is the global objectives and there's dissentions about ways to get to the goal.

Personally I think this is ridiculous. All this appears to be is a bunch of moronic infants who are upset they did not win the election we JUST HAD.

Whether you like it or not, Harper was elected by the people. What was the purpose of the election then?

It will be painful to watch the attempted appeasement of every special interest group in existence. This will now be a convoluted 2 party system, heading towards the same non choice the US had been stuck with forever.

You fail to grasp the greater point, at discussion here, of them all being owned, or controlled at least, by the Elites.

For those of you that say you are in the know, can we figure out here just how intricated the octopus is here in Candada: I have my eye on whats going on south of us, becuase I think whatever goes down there, goes down here next.

U2U me if it is too sensitiive..... tx

Obama is their tool I think to paving the way for a Red America, now that the economy is broken, ripe to seep in with voluntary socialism. next step: From Russia With Love.....

I gotta agree with Tinkabit with this. Something bigger is comming out of this. Why would all of these political enemies really want to put some guy that was not even wanted as PM.

This has a bigger meaning...

Weird how there are plenty of things going on right now.... TSX yesterday lost more then 700 + points.... That one flew right by us without notice. TG for Choi FM that still keeps a heads up on such things. Seems the dow was down as well.

Now this morning something about possible bioterrorism in the next 5 years.... Somebody is playing a game of: Hey look your shoe lace its untied.... (then the usual smack in the face)

Dion and the Libs are making a major mistake with this move. Dion was resoundingly rejected as prime minister, and the Liberals will pay in the next election if they install him as Canada's leader. Furthermore the Libs are going to be taking power just as one of the worst recessions in history is about to hit the country.....bad miscalculation.

I have to chime in as well as a Canadian.

Stephane Dion is attempting to ignore the vote that we Canadians just gave!

I don't care who is in the coalition. To be honest, I didn't vote for the Conservatives... but I'll be damned if I let the vote of the people be taken from them and tossed aside as if it were some piece of trash nobody cared about.

Whats on the table?
Dion has signed an agreement with the N.D.P and the B.Q, both parties are apparently to be united under one common voice.

THIS ISN'T A PARLIAMENT, THIS IS A DICTATORSHIP!

I know some of our yankee friends to the south are content to live in a 4 year elected dictatorship...
BUT AT LEAST THEY GOT TO ELECT THEIR DICTATOR!

This is absolutely disgusting to me.
From what I've been reading lately, Dion has hopes to reduce the parliament into a freaking cabinet of 25 decision makers, all of whom are supposedly to have no more power than an adviser.

At least, that's his hopes... we'll see if the NDP and BQ can stand idle by while they're reduced to serving as puppets.

It's all up to the Governor General now, I STRONGLY urge you to write to her! I have.
If you want to know how, here's an information site...
Governor General's office contacts

Please people!
If we have a coalition government in power during a world recession, especially one that we had no say in, there WILL be insurrections!
Governments who get in by stealing power, and people in a recession have NEVER gotten along. It has ALWAYS ended in bloodshed!

We can't let this happen! This is Canada! This is the one place on earth where we cannot let the need for insurrection be present!

Write to the Governor General!

The opposition will have to back down. A coalition would never work with all three opposition parties. The Liberals and the NDP alone might be able to maintain a coalition but they will need the Bloc, which will never work. If they had a coalition the Bloc would constantly blackmail the Liberals and the NDP for Quebec concessions in order to prop up the coalition. The non Quebec parts of canada (most of canada) would be really pissed off at the Liberals and the NDP for giving so much to Quebec.

If they defeated the Conservatives and went into an election all 3 opposition parties would be screwed. The Liberals,Bloc and the NDP are still millions in dept from the last election, it will take at least 1-2 years to pay it all off. The Conservatives on the other hand still have millions sitting around.

Furthermore, Dion already announced he was stepping down. How can the Liberals run in an election with a leader who was already defeated and already announced he is stepping down? It just couldn't work. The most likely outcome is that the Bloc and the NDP will vote against the bill while the Liberals will make sure that only a handful of their people show up to symbolically vote against the bill.

Oh btw..

WE NEVER ASKED FOR A REVOLUTION DICK!! I mean DION
