The Top Ten Reasons Gay Marriage is Un-American

I saw this posted on a BBS -- there was no attribution.

1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

I can think of other reasons as to why gays should be allowed to marry such as:

Why should they be the only one's who are happy?

The list highlights the utter absurdity of some of the knee jerk opposition to gay marriage.

Marriage is as much a matter of the heart as anything else. I have known straight couples who violate the sanctity of their marriages from the moment they get up in the morning to the moment they get back in bed... A certain ex-president and his so-called wife come immediately to mind...

And I have known gay couples who have been together for decades and are obviously in love and as married as any with a certificate...

And I have seen sane, well adjusted, unmolested children from gay homes grow up to be outstanding human beings...

And I have seen children grow up in straight homes so messed up they should be put out of their misery.

Its all in the heart.

That's splitting hairs gay=lesbian... aka same sex relations.

I was momentarily confused when I started reading, but then by number 3 I was laughing.

This list has to be one of the best refutations of those arguments I have ever read. Good find Grover!

The gay people (men) do NOT "=" to the lesbian people (women)...The Lesbians are well more higher respected!

I think counseling for the mental problem would have been nicer than some act of contiuing to laugh. The medical community drop the ball.
This allowed religion to be the only opposition when there were medical factors which would have help other human beings that should have been brought out. Sorry, alternate life stylers, were still ignorant and laughing at you.

I do not believe this should be deemed a “news article” by any stretch of the imagination; rather call it what it is, a parody of sorts.

It’s a jab at the ‘anti-homosexual unions’ folk if anything…quite silly too.

I never personally claimed it was a news article but I posted it exactly because parodies anti-gay marriage crowd.

People need to see the absurdity and hypocrisy of their stances... I have actually heard (and read) some assert that gay marriage will open the way to marriage with animals.
