OK, either I am the only heathen on here that would ever "re-gift" or people aren't admitting it...

For those of you that are so anti re-gifting, do you think it is more appropriate to throw away a gift that you would never use than pass it on to someone that you think might actually enjoy said gift? I guess I don't understand why everyone is so offended by the notion.

The very odd time I got something I couldn't or wouldn't use, I sold it in next years yard sale or donated it to charity.
I have also though, if my one of my children received two of the same gift, I would let them keep one, and I would put the other away for the inevitable birthday party invitations that come throughout the year.
I don't re-gift a Christmas present, for another Christmas though. To small a family and too easily spotted.
When I was a kid though, my family had a specific "JOKE" present, that was re-gifted every year to someone different.(Usually past between my mom and my 5 aunts). It was a pair of white long johns...THE BIGGEST SIZE POSSIBLE...that my aunt had decorated with a big red satin heart on the "bottom" and red tassels all around the legs. You never knew who was going to receive it, but it was a good laugh Christmas morning for all especially when all the women would wait by the phone to find out who got it this year.

OK, so I think it is more of an issue with everyone's own personal definition of what they consider re-gifting to be. I think we are pretty much on the same page. I wouldn't re-gift in the same circles where the original gifter would ever see it. Unless of course I knew that they wouldn't mind and had no attachment to the gift.

1.Best Christmas Ever?
The whole family usually comes up to Alberta for Christmas, but over the past few years everyones been busy or unable to make the trip. When I was 16 we had the whole family come up to Alberta. It was great. 5 days of Dysfuncational-family Goodness.

Worst Christmas? The one before Last. Its the Christmas that Mom and Dad Separated. Litterally, on Christmas with a housefull of people eating dinner, they were on the deck having it out. It was also the day Dad had his first sip of Beer in 20 years, and Mom started Smoking again. Seriously? Worst Christmas Ever. They have since gotten back together, and this Christmas will be their first back together. *crosses fingers*

2.Best Gift ever?
The Kitchenaid Mixer I got last year.

3.Worst gift ever?
Pyjamma's that were too small (on purpose) to let me know I had gotten chunky over my first year of College. THANKS.

4.Relative you are forced to endure the presence of?
My Uncle. The Creepy one, don't shake your head, you KNOW who I'm talking about. You all have one. The one who married his way into your seemingly smart Auntie's life (and can't keep his pants on when he's out of town), and INSISTS you share the bottle of Wine with him.

5.Snow or no snow?
I used to like Snow, now I despise it. It would be perfect if there was snow on Christmas Day ONLY. And if it melted on Boxing Day.

6.Turkey or ham?
Neither, I'm a Vegetarian. But When I did eat meat, Smoked Turkey.

7.Real tree, or artificial?
Real is much nicer, the fresh Pine Scent....but Artificial is more practical. You can stick it in a box under the stairs and not look at it again till next year or pick up pine needles.

8.Stay home or visit others?
Stay Home. I like when people come up to my Parents House - however, this year I guess its considered visiting, as I don't live at home anymore.

9.Favorite holiday food?
Shortbread Cookies, Rum Balls, Almond Roca and Butter Tarts. Thats Considered Food Right?

10. Favorite holiday drink?
Oh, I love Eggnogg. But I don't drink it anymore. So I stick with the Usual - Apple Vodka or Red Wine.

11.Favorite Christmas carol?
Santa Baby, I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause.

12.Do you have a holiday office/staff Party?
Yes. Although I'm not Staff anymore, I still got invited to go this year as I worked there over the Summer. SOOOO EXCITED FOR THAT!

13.What is your holiday tradition?
On the 23rd, I have dinner at my bestfriends house with her and her family. They're like my second family - they're normal.

On the evening 24th, everyone opens up one present.

On the 25th, Mom and I make a HUGE breakfast. Pancakes & Waffles, Bacon, Eggs, Fresh Fruit etc. Then we spend the day lazying around in our pyjamma's listening to the Jazz Christmas Station, playing cards, drinking, etc.

Then before and after Dinner we have a Family Jam Session (where Auntie & Uncle Play Guitar, I play Piano, My cousin plays the drums, Mom Plays the Spoons, NO JOKE) and a tribute to Grandpa who passed away (Everyone does a Shot of Vodka) Make Dinner: Usually Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Smoked Turkey & Ham (we usually have a house full), Steamed Vegetables, Stuffing, etc...

14.Angel or star atop your tree?
Star if we have it my way. Angel if Mom gets to the Box of decorations before me.

15.Do you re-gift?
Not on purpose.

16.Do you buy gift cards instead of presents?
Sometimes. It depends. For my Cousin - yes, because then he can pick out what he wants. He's at that age where its weird if i ask him what size his jeans are, even though he is like my brother.

17.Ever been kissed under the mistletoe?
Yes.

18.Do you REALLY like fruitcake?
OMG NO. My Dads Mom for some reason, thinks that we love Fruitcake? I don't know why...but out of respect Dad ALWAYS has a piece and makes me have some too! I despise fruitcake. Oh well, he totally pays for it when she tires to tell him that "he likes Liver Sausage". He eats that too. He's not one to hurt anyone's feelings.

Hey Shar! Happy Holidays!
I have but one Christmas song that reduces me to the level of a complete mushball every time I hear it. I couldn't find it on youtube.
Thing is..I rarely if ever, listen to Country music, but I heard this song one Holiday season, and that was it.
DOUG STONE
THREE LITTLE PENNIES

there was an old, blind man
who stood on the corner down town

he was holding a cup
filled up with nothing
from the Christmas shopping crowd
and though i barely came up to the top of his cane
i reached up and gave him
every cent to my name.

(chorus):
three little pennies.
were all that i had
one that I'd found
two from my dad
three little pennies not much of a gift
but Dad said "that's plenty, if it's all you can give."

that evening my dad told a wonderful story to me
about a child and the manger.
the wise men who came bearing gifts on the first Christmas eve.
there was a part I'm sure he made up
about a stable boy who couldn't give much..

(chorus)
three little pennies.
were all that he had
one that he'd found
two from his dad
three little pennies not much of a gift
but Dad said "that's plenty if it's all you can give."

next morning was Christmas
and i had prayed hard for a bike
but all that i found was the tiniest box
with three shiny pennies inside

and i was so disappointed because i had been good
but times had been bad so i understood.
and daddy said:

"three little pennies.
were all that you had
but you gave them freely
so i gave them back
three little pennies not much of a gift
you're bike is outside because you've learned how to give"
