en.wikipedia.org...

I'm currently writing a paper on the "root of all evil" and I think it goes hand in hand with selfishness and ambition. Thoughts on the matter?

whoops, I didn't mean for it to be in that category. Im still rather new and haven't gotten the finer points of thread making down. I was just curious of other peoples opinions is all. Im not claiming (by any stretch of the imagination) to be a "philosopher"

No matter (as far as I'm concerned).
I don't see solipsism as selfish. To me it seems sort of lonely and pointless. The possibility that only I exist doesn't seem to lead anywhere. To be selfish means you value yourself above others. If there are no others how can you be selfish?

i like the part about not being able to communicate any sort of complex ideas with words. the rest seems ok i guess, not worth spending much time on imo but an important step to have happened.

i think philosophy is a tool and is only productive when used in conjunction with other liberal arts. but then again it's all pretty maddening, struggling against your own mind to find out things that you odn't really want to know the answer to.

on that wiki page there was a hindu belief mentioned, don't remember the name. they were tlaking about the different states of existence. awake, deep sleep, and waking. pretty simplistic but something about it sounds important. it doesn't try and get all quantum about everything.
