They are scared #less of us and this last chance effort of patching up the dam with buble gum might be a sort of pacifier so the people don't start making and using guillotines on their front lawns. Hold on to your butts folks its going to get tough.
I laugh my *bleep* off over this because you have no idea the Golden Age that is coming after this collapse and its up to you to make it happen. Let's say you were to fire all CEOs and people who don't actually do any grunt work, now ask yourself this can the company I currently work for (or was downsized from) still be competitive and sustainable without them? Yes, and by leaps and bounds so great you will swoon in awe. The new financial system and companies that will spring up like the phoenix that rises from the ashes of a irreparable greedy capitalist system. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the system its just that greed broke it, it is still waaay better than say Feudalism!
But we will forge this new system as a system that benefits us all. What is coming will be company solidarity and everyone benefits from their efforts in the form of profit. Another fact to ponder is this. Have you noticed the exponential growth in intellectual capital that this world has achieved in the last 10 years? Ask yourself if you would have believed someone who told you of the coming decade of technological advances, in say nano-technology, would you believe them? Well folks all of that was accomplished through strife and pain and unspeakable suffering, well its really speakable suffering nowadays. How much horse power of human work was generated under the feudalist system? More importantly how many years did we stay in that system till we got fed up and changed it? Now compare the amount of work that the entire manufacturing, agricultural, etc and don't forget the intellectual diversity of astounding proportions we have accomplished under the current system? Also notice that as we moved from say feudalism to the present day how the time in between these eras got smaller and smaller all the while more and more work was acomplished through technology. We are in the nanotech age! Its been so fast some of us don't even know the full story, for a lack of time to realize it DUH!, of what we are accomplishing everyday in fields that get more and more diverse every year and more and more people are needed to work in more and more specialized fields, there aren't enough people! Its beautiful and sublime what the human race is and all this time we have had the hand brake on and we just caught a whiff of the smell and we are moving our hand to the lever my friends and we are going to FLY!! I love you all, don't be afraid because they should be afraid.

I agree, with todays techonology, goods can be mass produced in a small warehouse using automation and robotics with a fairly small capital investment. With the internet, a small manufacturer can market globally. The need for huge investment to mass produce goods is coming to an end, so will the need for giant corporations and overpaid CEOs.

This downtrun will result in a new form of market, with smaller manufacturers cutting deeply into top heavy corporate markets. Electricity can be produced with windmill farms and solar farms. Electric and hybrid vehicles can be more cheaply made in small productions. With current productivity levels we should all be working less hours and spending more time with our families, and doing things for ourselves, and that is the future that I see.

your line of thought leads my thinking down the route that mega corporations are on their way out....

think of localized manufacturing, say within the scope of the political boundaries we know as 'Counties'
where all of any counties GDP is produced or derivied from the natural resources found within those boundaries...
much innovation will be involved, as one areas geothermal electric production for upwards of 10,000 homes wouldn't work for a 300 day sunshine area that sits on sealevel sand topography ~ that area would develop solar arrays for all the various types/sizes of communities~

the list of variations grows big-time,
instead of a singular giant, massive Oak tree, in a space of forest & crowding out all other froms of foilage... think in terms of a forest of 'trees'...
'trees' being the metaphor/analogy for a multitude of structured systems which are self-sustaining, and within branch distance of each other...

I agree that all big corporations are going to fail in the coming year, trying to save them is making it happen faster. What will arise are small and potent companies that share the profit between all members of that company. Soon we will all have the collective capital to invest in the interest of each member of that company and it will be very competitive. I like the business model of google in that you have time to work and time to think creative ideas without a structured time frame. We have to realize that a company that is part of a global marketplace can work 24/7. There are night owls and there are early birds that can work the four 8 hour shifts in a day. There are people with different types of intelligence that need to be employed in each company and their specialized insights are key. There will come a time where we will not need to work since I mentioned before the technology we create is much more efficient than human toil. That time will come so quickly that the saying "I hope I can see that change in my lifetime" will no longer be relevant! Change is coming and it will be so overwhelming that we will need vacations just to catch our BREATH!

I agree with you that a rapid change is coming. My question is how can we be sure that it will be for the better?

If there are people now who dont consider the good of mankind then how do you know that when this technology is available that it will be used for a good cause?

Im all for a utopian outlook but there will be challenges on the way there. I dont think it will be as quick and smooth as you envision.

The thing is, the more de-centralized power is, the less power there is for anyone to usurp and abuse. The more centralized power is, say in such a form as a monopoly over energy, the greater that power is, and the easier it is abused.

Its my belief that the rapid change is for the better, the only facts I use to formulate this belief is history. Not the history that is told to us but the history we can see in front of our face. We have gone from absolute deity on earth govening schemes with horrible injustice to lets impeach this guy and we do do that! We have gone from horrible to worse to bad to not so bad haven't we? Not because the people who govern us have led us towards this but because we have taken it upon ourselves consistently thought history to get there and it happens faster and faster each time it happens. Obama is president and look at what his people (all our peoples) but his in particular, have accomplished. They are incredibly resilient people and have risen exponentially. All peoples share this gift. Just realize you have this gift to make reality change for the better. Sure theres more examples that I can mention of other strife suffered by any peoples and no one is where they want to be YET but we are getting there, all of us, together. We are all doing our part as a whole, I know there are people pulling us in the other direction.
The second part of I will address with the hope that if everyone has an equal stake (notice I didn't say share, you need to work for your benefits!)of the profits in a given company and this is occurring in every country I don't think technology will be needed to do bad things. Think about it if you are living a full and rich life and many many more like you, happiness and love will flourish exponentially. Love even flourishes when we have had strife hasn't it?! (Renaissance, Re-renaissance!)

Thanks for your support guys, I am glad there are people in ATS that still have enough left to dream and analyse their surroundings and find the best of us outshines the bad everyday. I really believe in these ideas and I see that many of you do too. I also truly believe that we can make our own reality since we are the majority on this gem of a planet. We need to stop fearing what is coming while all sorts of institutions that have been imposed on us for thousands of years collapse all around us! All empires fall and empires that are harsh on the majority fall faster. Look at history the empires that have fallen through the ages always give way to something that is slightly better even if if its mostly all bad. The human mind is the stuff dreams are made of, so dream the good dream and it will be yours!
