Bush on His Legacy

abcnews.go.com

In a personal and wide-ranging interview conducted by his sister about his legacy, his faith and the influence of his father, President George W. Bush said he hopes to be remembered as a liberator of the Iraqi people.

"I'd like to be a president [known] as somebody who liberated 50 million people and helped achieve peace," Bush told his sister, Dorothy Bush Koch, in a conversation recorded for the oral-history organization StoryCorps for the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

I wonder what the Iraqi people would have to say about all of that?

Achieved peace? Where?

Certainly not in Iraq or Afghanistan or in the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
And what about all of the saber rattling at Iran?

Nowhere that man and his policies have touched have achieved anything approaching peace unless it be the peace of the graveyard.

The man's self delusion is simply stunning.

Yeah the guy who killed 1.2 millions, covered up 9/11, tortured childrens, gave himself dictatorial power, destroyed the constitution, rigged elections TWICE, stole 8+ trillions of taxpayers money, sold US sovergnity to North American Uniono and the UN... militarized the police, lied to go to war, confiscated land, bankrupted millions of americans... destroyed US international image, destroyed the dollar, Guantanamo, improved drug production worldwide, mailed anthrax to political opponents.... employ corporations who participe in slave trading and stealing about 4+ trillions in the pentagon...

I'm probably forgetting a few other things... but still, he should be hanged for his crime, with most of this administration and about 3/4 of congress and senate for allowing this to allow.

And for all of you Bush apologists, HE'S THE PRESIDENT. He have the final word on everything. So he can and WILL burn in hell, if it exists.

But not only Bush is guilty, Clinton, and Bush Sr. too. And a lot others.

Grover ... he's a poltiician. OF COURSE his self delusion is stunning.

Just about all politicians have ego that are huge and stunning narcassistic tendencies. Heck - I didn't think anyone could top his religious rhetoric (God wanted the war ... etc), until Obama's religious rhetoric about himself came along.

The only thing I can say in Bushs defense is that during Lincolns time the people thought he was a complete failure and that he'd go down in history in a very negative way. Now we have monuments to him, and schools named for him, and his picture is on our money.

Who knows. Time may show Bush was right about things.
I seriously doubt it. But it could happen.

I don't mean this to sound sardonic in anyway, seriously.

If it weren't for GWB and his administration there would not be an Obama President elect. I as an American owe Bush that debt of gratitude, it doesn't matter what Bush's intentions were or are. We have taken a necessary step in our Country's social development and had Bush been a good President or even adequate, this day would be still far off into the future.

There isn't a significant area in our society that hasn't been vastly improved by the inclusion of Blacks. (all professional sports is the most obvious undebatable example)

I have the intellectual honesty to be greatful to Bush for his inadvertant blessing and service to our Country in this regards.

I will give bush minor Afghanistan... and I do agree with him on the guest worker program as probably one of the better solutions to the illegal alien situation but the rest... no.

In the article he cites no child left behind as one of his better efforts.... go talk to a teacher about that one... to a person they count it as one of the worst things done to our educational system... teaching kids to take a test as opposed to helping them learn to think for themselves.

But I take most umbrage to his notion as a man of peace... perhaps a man who left things in pieces perhaps.

Bush gave the gift of showing any future presidents what NOT to do.

....you can't view the world as black and white.
We don't know if attributing Bush with being "a man of peace" is accurate or not at this point. What if you were able to look back at the NEXT 100 years. What if you learned that a McCain presidency would end up one way and Obama another and the difference was War or Peace or the existence of the United States depended on which path we went down?
...You may say Bush did more harm then good but future generations might weigh all the bad he did yet still credit him with saving the United States through his failures.
One example; how many people thought, at the time, that Kennedy was not strong enough to lead our Country because he refused to invade Cuba during the Cuban Missle Crisis? The Hawks sure as hell did. Some debate that he was killed because of it, that he was a threat to our National security because he lacked the foritude. We of course now know that he saved us from WWIII and so did Krushov, and how did they reward him when he backed down to the West? They sent him out to pasture.
....if you want to hate Bush for his "intentions" well that is fine. But I believe he played a very very very important role in our Country's future.
....If you believe at all in Obama then you must thank Bush for it.
I believe in Obama and is the first politician in my life (42yrs old) that I have ever thought really could make a difference. Thank you Mr. Bush!

Yeah kinda like my parents gave me a wonderful example of how not to have a relationship... and more importantly how not to end one.
