After seeing this thread, www.abovetopsecret.com..., a question popped into my head.

If, or when, scientists develop a method/therapy to extend the life of a human beyond a couple of centuries, who deserves to receive this therapy?

Sure, many people deserve it but how many lives can we realistically prolong before overpopulation becomes too big of a problem? Think back in history. Who would have deserved to live unnaturally long lives and why? For me, it would have been Nikola Tesla for obvious reasons.

I believe that only those of whom contribute to our technological, scientific and medical advancement in profound ways should be granted such a gift. I'm sure there are more......

Just another thought, who would be the person or agency or group that would decide which people receive this? Would it be a government agency? Or maybe a board of people who've already been through the therapy?

I don’t think it is the kind of thing anyone is deserving of.

I don’t think we are deserving of several selections of fast food chains while children in third world countries can hardly grow enough food to eat and stay alive. Usually the least deserving have it made.

If something is made available people will obtain it if they wish to, doesn’t mean any of them are deserving of it.

That's sad.

But by abnormally long life, I mean hundreds of years. Of course these children deserve a chance at life but what about the other genetic disorders that cause early death? If everyone inflicted with these genetic disorders were given such a therapy, would it not cause the world to be over populated with people that live extremely long lives, all the while birthing children that also carry the same genetic disorder?

I'll accept O.J. Simpson. Having him spend hundreds of years in jail would be great! Hugh Heffner already received the therapy!

Either you populate the world with those children who have already faced illness and come close to death, or those that are rich and/or powerful and would certainly use their time to further destroy the world and it's people around them.
To me, it's a no brainer.
There are those that would value life, and those who would exploit it.

All of Humankind deserves a drink.

Not just the diseased, and not just the elite. All of us.

Quite simply, no one.

People are either selfish, or selfless. The selfish ones clearly don't deserve it, and the selfless ones have lived hard enough lives that they eventually deserve the release that comes from passing.

I think the 'selfish' is primarily the aftermath of our social constructs. Just my opinion.

Why not, 100 extra years for everyone, and then bodily death? The selfless will still reap their nirvana

I would give anything to live forever. Even my Soul

Heck, if some of you guys don't want to live on, I'll take it. I'm here to live. Dying is a stupid reality anyway. The spirit doesn't die anyway, but these bodies sure seem to die off rather quick. Not that it really has to be this way.

We should have the option to transform, not wither and die, if we want a little change in our lives. Who here enjoys hobbling around on a walker? Who likes watching their grandparents and family wither away? I'm willing to guess there weren't very many hands raised.

Give me lifelong youth and abundance! That's how I roll!

I hate the fact that the family pet only lives about 1/5 our lives. Give our pets the same life span as us.

And who says selfless people have to suffer? They should be the ones living the good life. Forget being a "starving" martyr. You can give in abundance without depleting yourself. Life doesn't have to be about suffering. Life is whatever you make of it.

As far as overpopulation, we need to worry more about society as a whole anyway. As it is, many of us are segregated little families that fear communication outside our little circle. I think it's time we embrace the larger family of the entire world. The happiest people in the world are those who are out there with everyone else, and living life. Families are great and all that, but we need to also look at the bigger "family."

Love your wife, love your kids, and family pets, but don't forget to love your neighbors too.

Let there be life!!!!!!!!!!! You don't have to ask me twice.

Ok, so the question is actually this: If only certain individuals can receive such a treatment, who gets it? Let's just say that only 2 people per year can have their lives extended. Who will it be? What type of person?

Well, you would obviously want the people who are doing the most good to live on, if you had to think of it that way.

Once you have the understanding that spiritually you don't die, things are different.

Let's have the ability to re-invent our bodies, if we want some change. No death, just re-invention. That's sort of what we do anyway. Except we have this ridiculous death phase. Screw that. We don't die! Why do we pretend to do so?

Folks, live long and live well. Enjoy life. Don't let chronological age stop you from feeling alive. Plan your future, not your death.

Anyway, sorry, I'm a bit off topic. Carry on.

Are you asking who it would probably be, or who it should be?

Very different implications.

It would probably be someone with a ton of wealth, and a ton of fame.

It should go to someone whom the World elects democratically. With the idea that the chosen person had the most potential for benefiting Humankind with their extended life.

I don't know who that should be, but I am thinking a scientist of sorts. Perhaps the best of the best in the field of physics.

1. Astrophysicist
2. Particle Physicist

While I see the point you were trying to make, a child starving in a third world country doesn't deserve food MORE than a child who is well fed here. It is a matter everyone being deserving of the basic essentials, but unfortunately, because greed is man induced disease that is allowed to run freely, it is a matter of where one is placed on the globe.. simply put: "luck of the draw" rather than being entitled.

As far as who is deserving to drink of the fountain of youth? No one. It is not a natural part of the life cycle and therefore it is a continuation of greed to want more than what you are given. Let it go and be grateful for the time you do have. Move along so that other souls get the chance to experience it for a bit.

Thank god for your incredibly scientific input that contributed absolutely nothing to this thread.
Next time you can do us all a favor and contribute nothing by not contributing.

Now that you finally got some attention, you can focus on derailing other threads.
