Clinton Accepts Position of Secretary of State

Well here we go boys and girls.

This is definitely change.

I've even heard Obama supporters say they didn't want this to happen, but it looks like it has.

Doesn't surprise me a bit.

Actually, all of us Supporters have been happy that Clinton was offered a position.

We know that it has to happen to bring the party together in order to have any real power.

Actually This is part of the change we are looking for, but it will be tough to tell until we actually see the POLICY which is conducted through these PEOPLE.

I don't think all of you have by any means.

I've heard just the opposite here at ATS. I'm not trying to say that a majority didn't want this pick, but some.

I couldn't be more disappointed honestly. Clinton's foreign policy experience amounts to nothing more than goodwill missions and made up stories of sniper fire.

If she does get the position, i would like to see how she is treated in russia. Russia did not like Ms. rice too much, so we will see.

She did get the position.

That's the point of this thread. She has accepted.

Be careful when you say "all of us", as it's simply not true.

First of all, the last thing this country needs is further consolidation of power into a single party.

So, the change you wanted to see was a change from "Bush III" to "Clinton II".

I think, when America spoke up and said we wanted change, we were actually saying we wanted something new. Something we haven't had before. I'd feel more comfortable if Obama had picked a homeless guy off the street, or my daughters hamster. Traditionally, those who are best suited to solve a problem, generally are not those who helped create the problem. As far as I'm concerned, Obama is showing us that the only change he's bringing to the white house is (be careful here Unit...) the color of his skin.

That may be so, but if you pick Hill you get Bill. Think of them as one unit, including all their connections worldwide. No, this is not change by any means, but there is something to be said for the pick simply on strategic grounds. This is shaping up to be Bill Clinton's third term, but that still beats the last 8 years of hell....

Is that supposed to be a positive?

We get Bill, with his monstrous financial backers worldwide, some of which are countries that do not like us, whose wife will now be hugely involved in foreign policy issues?

Can anyone say conflict of interest?

Apparently, they were able to overlook all of Bill's international connections and financial concerns. I get the feeling that Hillary and Bill will soon overshadow Obama. They love the spotlight more than Obama.

Fasten your seat belts because Bill will be driving from the backseat.

I'm a Republican who voted for Obama because I really trusted REAL CHANGE was coming. I guess all politicians engage in false advertising in order to get elected. Clinton equals change? I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same!

YES WE CAN! (meant as one - liner in CAPS)

Cant you just smell the "CHANGE"

I especially loved the "Dramatic Pause" as she "considerered" taking the position. LOL!

Universal heathcare anyone? Gotta love it!

I bet you dollars to donuts this whole thing was "decided" in "Virginia" out of the purvue of the media sent to Chicago. What a bunch of bull.

Hope you enjoy it people, you asked for it, and you got it.

To be honest, I am not a huge fan/supporter of Hillary. I think she is about as evil as they come. I certainly hope that Obama can put her in her place.

It's more likely to be the other way around.

The Clinton's are not known for their ability to take a back seat to anyone.

I'd say we'll see plenty of fireworks with this pick, especially when you factor in Bill hanging around.

Did anyone else see this coming?

I imagine this was part of the deal: Hilary bows out and doesn't put up a fight in exchange for a position in the new cabinet. Nothing more than political maneuvering that doesn't come as a surprise.

At least she's not in charge of health care.

As an obama supporter, Im happy with the pick. Its the one topic Obama and hillary really didnt agree on.

It IS change. Obama is not surrounding himself with a bunch of yes people.

Different points of view is what will change this country.

Yes! The moment Hilary Clinton started campaigning FOR Barack Obama most of us suspected that some kind of deal had to been made. But when Bill Clinton actually campaigned for Obama, we KNEW some kind of deal had been made.

Go back to the time of Hilary's concession in the running and listen to the vitriol that Bill was spewing about the Obama campaign. For him to come around and campaign openly for Hilary's opponent just didn't compute, unless you figured in a closed-door deal.

Now we know exactly why Hilary and Bill campaigned for Obama and put those fake smiles on for the cameras.

Exactly how much unilateral power do you think the POTUS has?

Different points of view... His cabinet selection has shown that his point of view is no different than what we've seen for the last 30 years.

The only thing that's going to change this country is us. Pure and simple. We'll see change when we create it ourselves, not when it's sold to us. Unfortunately, I fear we're a ways off from taking control of our own destiny. We'd rather sit in our lazy-boy with a remote in one hand and a beer in the other, watching fake boobs on reality TV. Let that guy who said something about "change" take care of it.

"YES WE CAN!"

Sure we can. Will we?

"NO WE WON'T"

In a way I'm thinking Obama's inexperience in politics, maybe even his exposure to characters like Ayers has made him naive. I know most believe that with the current two-party system, politics is a hopeless endeavor right now. I don't think Obama sees it that way. Maybe he has the best intentions in mind for the country. But picking the same-old same-old for his cabinet - I wonder if he actually thinks these people will help him foster in the change he envisions? I know the likes of Reid and Pelosi in Congress won't unless the agenda's match.
