I predict that Barack Obama will be named Time Magazines "Man Of The Year" for being elected the first African-American as President of the United States. I wonder how many other people who are a part of ATS think this as well.

So essentially he will be named man of the year simply for being black

He hasn't done anything yet.

He's full of promises and "change change change" but lets see if its not just business as usual when he enters the white house.

Hah, winning a award for the colour of your skin.
Amazing.
I'm sure there's been better presidents in American history then Obama will be.

But he's done nothing to benefit anyone yet, just a LOT of good speeches.

Public speaking award, I think so.

Of course he will be, this is no prediction.
Do you see anyone else in the running?
You don't become "Man of the Year" or "Person of the Year" for having to achieve some great good.
Whether you like it or not, he is the face of change and hope, he is the most popular man in the World right now. Many other countries are hoping the United States is taking a different course.

I don't care if you love or hate him. He will be the "Person" or "Man" of the year on Time's cover. No prediction here, no debate.

To comfort some of you, so was "Hitler" once. So don't be concerned with Obama being seen as the Messiah just because he makes Times cover.

It is the story of the year, it is the achievment of the year not just for him but for the people of this great Country. We elected a black man. Our racist, hipocritcal stain has taken a huge step at being removed. Be proud, because in America, you can become anything you want!

Is the man of the year always a good thing? What about the one who may have brought down Wall Street? There's so many to choose from. T.Boone Picken hasn't actually done anything yet either. So, lets list the other candidates. George Bush? surviving allegedly being the worst President? and not being shot or impeached?

I think you're probably right, Wally.

Since 1927, TIME Magazine has chosen a man, woman, or idea that "for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year." Though TIME's list is not an academic or objective study of the past, the list gives a contemporary viewpoint of what was important during each year.

Time's Man of the Year

I think it will be Obama because he has influenced events. We haven't seen the real effect of Wall Street yet. And T. Boone Pickens might be a contender for next year.

Im not no Obama loving supporter
but he gives people hope and change and the possibility that what you have is not all you have to be....
He gives the vision that even though we are the most royally f'ed up country we can come together...

I'm not gettin into any topics about wether or not hes a freemason and hes simply just tricking the people into this thinking....
I think we sometimes get so narcisitc that even one one small good thing happens we can't believe it for what its worth.
Yea have we had horrible racial tension and problems in America? Hell yes but stop living in your past...learn from it and dont repeat it then.
Yes have almost all our presdients given us false hope and admiration only to # us over again...well yea its gonna be that way aslong as we have this political system. So would you rather have Barack or Mccain?
I dont care if you hate or love the man..if you watched his speech on election night and didnt feel just alittle good about being a human being for a minute..then idk what to say sometimes those few moments of realzing how great your potential can be is astounding....
Only time will tell and its not up to Barack Obama entirley to change and save us...we gotta do that
I mean it wasnt up to George Bush alone to entirley change and **** us....but I mean WE let him do that didnt we?
