I live in Sweden.
Most things are nice here.
The well fare system is pretty neat.

But know this:
Our taxes are freakin out through the roof!!!
They tax everything!!!
You are never ever ever ever ever ever ever free!
No matter what the hell you are up to- there is a freakin tax for it!

AAAARRRRGHHH!!!

All I want to do is get my piece of land (expensive and TAXED!!!), build my little home (expensive and TAXED) and live there (HOUSING TAX!!!) and be independent and free!!!

MY GOD WILL THEY LET A MAN OFF THE HOOK??!?!?!?!?!?!

If you find a place where this is affordable. Let me know. That is all that I want to do as well.

There are PLENTY of these places!

Russia, Romania, Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary...
All great places, great country side, great people.

You buy your house for $2000 roughly and no one will bother you with ANY MORE COSTS BEYOND THE PURCHASE OF THE PROPERTY!!!

That is a freakin HUMAN RIGHT man! To be able to live where you want man!
Aaaarrrrgghh!!!

I AM SO DIVIDED I THINK I'M GONNA BURST!!!

France:

property purchase of old farmhouse in the vinyards inc 2,450 m2 land : 35,000 euros (equivalent) 2002.

"Tax d'habitation" paid by any resident. About 140 euros per year.

"Tax fonciere", paid by all owners of a property. About 120 euros per year.

The above taxes pay for things like roads (no road tax here), refuse and recycling collection, the 3 emergency services, councils and other local infrastructure. Small price for so much! Nice to know I can pick up a phone and have my house saved from burning down or to drive on GOOD roads without drunk drivers and uninsured road users.

That's it pretty much. Depends on the location but compare that with neighbouring countries! (UK for instance). Phone, electric, gas (bottled here) sewage (septic tanks in rural areas =free) and water are down to usage.

What more could I want. For a country run on massive buraucracy, that's damn good.. "Vive La France" Life CAN be cheap and THIS little piece of heaven has the stone and timbers PAID FOR.

Cost of living in France

Quality of life index..France No.1 again.

How can you say in the same breath that the welfare system in Sweden is pretty neat yet taxes are holding you back? It's completely contradictory.

Well, YES I KNOW!!!
That is what is constantly freaking me out as well!!!

Our government-parents are SMOTHERING us with their love!
They will never let you go!

At least we only have the second highest taxes in the world now.
Only out taxed by Denmark.
Always the Danish, but this time they bit the sour apple
MOAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA....
