I am 43 now. When I was approx 8, my aunt, who owned a quarter-horse farm about 20 mins from our home in the 'burbs, called and said a blue light just landed in one of her fields. My dad (ex-AirForce officer w/at least Top Secret clearance) got very excited and said,"Come on! - Lets get in the car!" On the way to my aunt's farm, we stopped on the side of the road, high on a bluff looking down oever a valley. The night sky was crystal clear. We looked around for a few mins and we noticed a dull glow in the distance. It was defined in two dimension, as it started either approaching us or growing in size. It was the approx shape of a tube-type TV screen, but with no depth. Kind of a square shape (but not quite) with rounded corners. The interior of the shape was a kind of gaseous glow. Its almost as if a beam of light, a very, very dull beam of light was cut into, and the beam could not travel past the "screen". The object grew larger and larger or perhaps closer and closer, to the point that it felt like we were in front of a drive-in movie screen. My mother, who is and was a quite normal person, began freaking out, shoutng to my dad, "Get my kids out of here!". My brother, who was about 10 at he time, and I, were crying along with her. I remember my dad getting angry that he had to pull away, and punched it and gravel flying everywhere. We proceeded to my aunt o "debreif" her, but didnt see anthing out there. I wrote a paper about it for my third grade class and drew a picture as well. I think my mom still has it somewhere as I remember seeing it in the last few years. Anyway, it still amazes me that whatever we saw, it was enough to freak out a grown woman and amaze an ex- AF officer with a pretty high clearance. Would love to know if anyone has ever seen anything similar or has any comments. Thanks for allowing me to share....

That's pretty amazing. Did it remain in 2 dimensions the entire time?

When did you notice it "not there?"

Do you really remember this...I mean not just stories you hear told about when growing up but "really" remember?

Get the picture from your mom, I mean I really need to see that.

Thanks for sharing.

That sounds pretty crazy. Could you draw some pictures to give us a better idea of what you saw? The whole "2D" aspect of it is interesting.

I'd have to draw question with regards the proximity of "c" and "d" on the keyboard.

THanks for replying -

There was never any apparent depth to the "object" at anytime. I am quite sure that I remember it. I am the only one in the family who seems to still be curious as to what it could have been. I am going to ask mom to look for the picture as she is coming in town for Tgiving. I hopefully can scan and post. As to seeing it leave, all I remember is my dad peeling out and flying down the road. No kiding, we were all scared s***less. Now that I think about it, my mom may have jumped in the back seat. I realize thing can get distorted over the years. I am really glad I drew that picture and wrote story. I bet I could draw the same thing now, and it would match the pic I drew in third grade. After all these years, I have never seen anything in books or online that is even close. The only explaination I can come up with is some type of "doorway", Stargate, whatever, had materialized in front of us. I do remember thinking that it "saw" us, and purposely came toward us. I of course have no proof of that, just a feeling or a memory of a feeling. - Thanks again for your interest

I am not sure I understand your comment, but my user name is only one of my three given names and the first initial of another. Nothing more sinister. Thanks! - rjf (hint)

When I hear a story like this I have to wonder if there were ever any others who perhaps did not flee such a thing and are no longer here to be writing about it in an internet discussion group?

God bless caring, logical mothers!

What state did this take place in? Was it in the USA?

Thank you for posting about it. Would also love to see your drawing of it sometime.

Got the drawing - once scanned, the "object" is a little lighter than I remember, but it should help you visualize. I couldnt paste directly in reply - what image sharing site would you recommend or could I email mail it somehow? Pls advise - Gonna run to store, back in 5 - willing to keep effort going if you really want to see - no hard feelings if not - thanks

Cant speak directly for my family, but I am quite certain that they would describe it very, very similarly to me. Dad is gone now, but mother, brother still here - again, as there is really not much to describe. - It was a dimly lit "object" , perhaps like a light behind a sheet, except the "sheet" was almost gaseous, for lack of a better word. The only dimensions were height and width -

Yes crayon - sounds weird, i agree but wanted to try and show an approx color - after I upload the "crayon drawing", I'll try and do better representation. The first is just a quick sketch, per someones request - I'll see if I can conjure some artistic abilities real quickly - pls hold for my first try at photobucket - thanks - and thanks to all - I had no idea I would even get one response - wow

So what you are saying is that you have no proof to offer?

Just a story and a crayon drawing?

Terrible drawing, but....black border to represent the night sky and the lighter "square" shape is what we saw - the contrast was nowhere near so great. I'll try and do a better one with pencil or something - Pls advise if the link is wrong

I think you missed the point of my post - I merely wondered if anyone had seen or heard of anything like it - I dont think I was ever trying to say - " I HAVE PROOF" - sorry if I mislead you
